Jose Mourinho returns to the Premier League with a sun soaked Vitality Stadium providing the backdrop.

AFC Bournemouth host Mourinho and his Manchester United charges in today’s early kick-off, with Eddie Howe’s men attempting to follow Hull City’s lead and rip up the script.

Certainly today’s meeting will provide a stern test of Mourinho’s work over the summer – a tight pitch, a tight ground and a home side bristling with pace via Josh King, Callum Wilson and new signing Jordan Ibe.

But United have Zlatan Ibrahimovic; the Swede heads into the match having been handed the armband by 21% of Fantasy Premier League managers. It remains to be seen if he can keep pace with Sergio Aguero who was backed by 34% and rewarded them with a 9-point return in the day one win over Sunderland.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Manchester United look no different to how they were last season under van Gaal. Didn't expect them to be either. The point I am making is that for all of these new inspirational, tactical genius managers that come in, very little changes.

It's been 45 minutes and José has had next to no time to imprint his style on the squad. Premature.

Alright then. They look exactly the same as they were in van Gaal's first game in charge.

City looked a different team though one game in, they lacked end product but you could see Pep's style already. This Utd team looks no different to a LVG set up

they will win more games than last season but it will be dull drawn out grinded results. That's Jose though don't know why people think they will suddenly play attractive attacking football.

Exactly this. He has that advantage in that the media love him. LVG made an enemy of the media which was ultimately his downfall.

I say the first 3/4 games is all about getting the points on the board whichever way it's achieve. After that teams generally start to express themselves more.

Rooney in the middle really affects that. Mkhi on the right and Mata in the middle of the three behind Zlatan would change that.

I am merely making the point that managers in the main don't make as big a difference as the media suggest. It's the players on the pitch that do that. The presence of weekly press conferences and constant, banal analysis has increased the role of the modern manager as we know it.

But how can you tell if a difference has been made only 45mins into their first game? Bit early to judge no?

look at City, and LFC last season. Pep/Klopp had more of an instant impact and Klopp didn't even have a pre-season. Jose has had a whole summer to get his team to play his way yet they look exactly the same as last season.

Sure it's early days but you think pre-season is enough time to imprint more of his own tactics.

How many mins have Mkhitaryan and Pogba played in pre-season? Pep/Klopp have a completely different style to what Mourinhio does also. They press and attack a lot more.

Yes. I'm just making the point generally rather than related to Man Utd specifically. For that reason I think Spurs will do well this season and don't think Liverpool will be as good as people think.

Think they'll be much better this season. Genuine target man in Ibrahimovic, and solid box to box midfielder in Pogba. Going to be poles apart from LVG sideways stuff.

I honestly think Rooney needs to be dropped, stick Mata in the hole and when Mkhitaryan is fit play him right

It's laughable how United feel the need to play him to try and justify giving him that new mega contract. Pride has been their downfall, just bench him.

Ibra will probably score in the second half and everyone will be back to lamenting Kane and Vardy. If/when United click - be that today or in a few week's time - he will invariably be a major beneficiary. One thing I'd suggest though, is that Zlatan may be one of those annoying strikers, like Defoe and Costa, who can score goals without necessarily picking up bonus points.

What?! You don't fancy Vardy against Arsenal's makeshift back four? Just because he blanked yesterday, don't chase points. Stand by your pre-GW1 choice. You made it for a reason. A blank yesterday doesn't mean he won't make up for it next week - some would say it makes it more likely. Surprisingly few players score in consecutive games, especially with early season rust.

It was Mahrez + Costa or Vardy + Alli from the start and shift to Costa + Alli for gw 2. The only reason that I would have kept Vardy is when he would have been superb. He had some chances but when a striker misses these chances, he's not in his best form. Leicester will also struggle, they looked very very weak.

Funny old game, after spending hours and hours debating wether to roll the dice on Oscar or not, I decided to chance it and go with him. Now I want him not to feature at all so I can get my Capoue 10 pointer and straight switch Ayew and captain him next week as I'm going the game and no standout other options.

West Ham and going to the game? There is no way I wouldn't have put Ayew ahead of Oscar to begin with

Rooney's been very good. The way he pings that ball to the wingers is a thing of beauty. Shame the other utd players arent on his wave length

For as long as Rooney butchers the number 10 role MU will never be the free scoring team we use to be, regardless of how many stars we sign.

Watch the difference between someone like Mata compared to Rooney when either receives the ball in the middle of the park.

A true number 10 is always looking forward for a forward pass, and if there isn't one there they are willing to take on their man to open the space up to find that pass or shot.

I have never seen Rooney do any of these things when receiving the ball in that number 10 role.

I respect Rooney for everything he has achieved for our club, but he has never been, nor ever will be, a number 10, and he needs to step aside if this club is to progress to the heights we once knew.

Written by a dedicated and passionate MU supporter for the past 26 years.

Rooney has long been the scapegoat for Man Utd's lack of creativity. I don't know what people expect him to be doing, he's never going to be controlling the game like a Fabregas, Ozil or Silva... He's playing up front...

That's the point. He's not playing up front. He's playing in the space a Fabregas, Ozil or Silva plays in

                That's it exactly the point.

Who's more like Ozil, Fab and Silva? Rooney? Or Mata/Miki/Pogba?

Rooney has no comparable skills against the likes of the best number 10's in the world (great first touch, incredible vision, forward thinking silky skills), and unfortunately that's the role he is playing.
