Chelsea’s stars of 2014/15 rise to the occasion at Stamford Bridge as both Diego Costa and Eden Hazard deliver goals to earn Antonio Conte a victory in his first Premier League outing. Here’s the final Stock Check of Gameweek 1.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
The Belgian’s spot-kick was hugely significant, not least because it saw Hazard deliver in Gameweek 1, but also because it appears to confirm him as Chelsea’s designated penalty taker. That’s something of a puzzle given that Oscar took one in pre-season with Hazard on the pitch. Now with penalties secured, Hazard’s stock, like that of Riyad Mahrez, has enjoyed a major boost.

Diego Costa
Owned by just 7% of FPL managers, Costa’s fine winning strike rolled us back to the 2014/15 campaign and offered a reminder of his clinical finishing ability. His future at Chelsea is far from assured but if he can hint at returning to his debut season strike rate, he may yet enter our thinking. However, an early booking and a reckless challenge on Adrian also demonstrated just why we have to show extreme caution.

Cesar Azpilicueta
The Spanish full-back has significantly improved his attacking game and is now offering just as much from the left as Branislav Ivanovic on the right. Unlike the Serb, Azpilicueta’s starting role has rarely come under question and with no rival for his position, he continues to stand out as the key option in Antonio Conte’s defence. Tonight’s assist and bonus only underlined that further.

James Collins
Slaven Bilic opted for the Welsh warhorse over Angelo Ogbonna, potentially unlocking a 4.5 option in West Ham’s backline. That already brought Collins to our attention, even before his dramatic blast from a West Ham corner. A start against AFC Bournemouth should be guaranteed but it remains if he can hold off Ogbonna in the long-term.

In Decline

Andre Ayew
The Ghanaian’s West Ham bow lasted just 34 minutes before he gave way with a thigh problem. That was a blow to his 9.5% ownership who must now wait anxiously to see if he can recover for Sunday’s potentially profitable meeting with the Bournemouth defence. With Payet a likely starter, Bilic won’t need to take a risk with his new signing.

Michail Antonio
Charged with containing Hazard, he was always in for a testing evening. Seemingly consigned to a right-back role with Bilic collecting options on the flanks, Antonio was hooked shortly after conceding the early second-half penalty. His start against AFC Bournemouth could be in doubt – his fragility against top class opponents certainly isn’t, nor is his reluctance to continue as a full-back.

Sofiane Feghouli
The 5.5 midfield option is another in the West Ham treatment room. He missed tonight’s encounter with a hamstring problem which materialised in training according to Bilic.

Oscar
We thought he was on spot-kicks, clearly he is not. That’s a major dent to his appeal and with Cesc Fabregas breathing down his neck, the Brazilian’s owners will rarely be able to rest easy.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hello everyone, which one should I bench for Gw 2:
    1. Walker vs Cpl ( H)
    2. Mcauley vs Eve ( H)
    3. Stones vs STK ( A)
    4. Valencia vs Sou ( H )
    5. Tadic vs MU ( A)

Am leaning towards Stones. City look vulnerable in defence and have Champions League Playoff

Baby-faced and perpetually surprised. Looks good in blue though, suits his complexion. Could do with a trim around the back and sides, but clean-shaven.

Sorry... quick bit of fun. I think if he had pens in his locker he'd be a steal at 7.5 but it reckon the desireable Chelsea assets showed their colours, need to shell out more cash unfortunately. Surprised Fabregas started on the bench too, he could share time with Oscar

... didn't see much of the ball and played a little deeper. Losing pens to Hazard is a major dent I expect

Cheers. He looked a steal on pre-season performance, but I'm wondering whether it is essentially Hazard or forget it with Chelsea.

    Opinions very much appreciated!!
    Squad for GW 1
    Foster/Jaku
    Stones Valencia Friend Paredes Lenihan
    Hazard Firmino Tadic Lamela Capoue
    Zlatan Kun Gray

Got 68 points for this week so I am not complaining. Already used my FT to swap in Kingsley for Paredes.
    Decision for GW2
    1) Firmino looked very lethargic against Arsenal. Still not very convinced with Coutinho but many of my league rivals have already swapped for him. 8.5> 8.0 should be an easy downgrade? (Point hit worth it?)
2)Tadic/Redmond conundrum. Watched the highlight of the Southampton game and Redmond looked very sharp. Tadic did provide some delicious deliveries. Would I be jumping the gun if I swap for Redmond instead? What about charlie austin? Would he take over Redmond's starting position?
    3) Gray looked godlike during preseason but he didnt impress me against Swansea. Negredo on the other hand had PL experience before. I opted against him at the last minute last week because of his poor season at Valencia. Next few fixtures look very kind for them though. SHould I be tempted?

    Many thanks in advance!

Think Amat more nailed than Kingsley. I agree Kingsley better than Taylor for points but I don't think he will be benched all games.

I would advise to save since 1 FT already used. U nvr know in premier league anyone can score against anyone

    Which transfer should do?
    A. Ibra in for Vardy
    B. Defoe in for Gray
    C. Hold the transfer
Have 1.5m in the bank. Only anxiety is that Ibra's price is raising and Vardy is getting down.

In long term Tadic should slightly edge Lamela as he is on set-pieces as well and advanced role. More nailed than before post sale of Mane & Pelle. Else Lamela if u r anyways planning to wildcard early.

Oscar is too incsistent to be able to keep his place in first team over the full season, so even if they rotate he won't be on the pitch to take his 50% of penos, will be more like 75/25 for Hazard

Where you expect Arsenal to end up this season. Personally see them ending around 6-7 at best, 9-10 worst case.
Im not even Arsenals fan but getting very tired of Wenger and his transfer policy approach/defiance. Also the fact he has no drive to be a winner.
They struggle to sign avarge players these days and some speculations start to surface about best players with winning mentality/aspirations not being happy.

For sure one of Vardy or Mahrez can be replaced. Probably Vardy as he is more expensive and no pens either.

It seems like you keep asking the same question until you get the answer you want. There was a reason you chose those players right? How does 1 game erase that and make them "weak links"?

Weak links from 1 GW. Hold tight. 37 more to go.

What would you do here play:

    A) Deulofeu vs Foster

    or

    B) Friend instead of Deulofeu in 4-3-3

    Pickford/Fletcher/Friend/Paredes

How does my squad look? Any need to use the WC?
I originally had Andrew Ayew, but after the injury today I replaced him with Lamela.

And also, should I use Friend or Amat for week 2?

The knee is jerking so bad. Feel like taking a -4 already.

    Fuchs, Terry, Stones, Mee, Friend
    Fabregas, Eriksen, Deulofeu, Tadic

Fuchs to Amat, Fab to Haz?

If u hv a United defender already, suggest take a chance with Stones as playing Redmond will offset the score with ur Man U defender if he gets points.

        Ramirez or snodgrass

It seems all teams are as likely to concede this season as well. I would suggest to look to downgrade Fuchs in the coming weeks. For next week though can replace Gradel for another 5.5 like Ramirez as he is on set-pieces.

Well I still m not sure on Hull City. Will need to wait and see. They don't have enough senior players atm so may eventually start to show with each GW.
