Dugout Discussion – Stoke vs Man City

Saturday treats us to seven more Gameweek 2 matches, with Stoke entertaining Man City in the early lunchtime kick-off.

Sergio Aguero will be hoping to continue the momentum that’s already harvested six goals in his first four outings under Pep Guardiola.

Having seen Zlatan Ibrahimovic score twice and rack up 13 points last night, though, the Argentine has plenty to do to vindicate his place at the top of this week’s captain poll.

City warmed up for this one with a 5-0 hammering of Steaua Bucharest on Tuesday evening, and their manager has been reluctant to make changes – Pep Guardiola makes just one alteration from that match in Romania, with Nolito replaced by Jesus Navas on the flank.

For the Potters, Shay Given once again deputises for the stricken Jack Butland, who remains sidelined with an ankle injury sustained in training prior to Gameweek 1.

Mark Hughes makes one enforced change for the hosts, with the injured Xherdan Shaqiri repalced by Joe Allen. Bojan is expected to switch to the right flank to allow Allen to tuck in behind Mame Biram Diouf.

          I could definitely understand the thought process of picking Kane to be GW2 captain in pre season. But after the Everton game, makes no sense to me.

            Palace looked unconvincing vs West Brom. The fixture is as good and they come and Spurs will definitely improve. Just because Aguero and Ibra scored last week doesn't mean they were at all convincing.

              C'mon Kun is Kun. He was certainly more convincing than Kane and scored a hatty midweek.

              Agree on Ibra. I think he'll score plenty of goals, but still not convinced he's worth 11.5m

                Kun probably was better but I thought Stoke would be much more robust than they are at the moment. Oh well, on to the next captain choice.

                  I think people need to stop associating that with Stoke. We are not in the Pulis Stoke era anymore. Under Hughes, they have been a more attacking side than anything from my viewing.

                  Good luck with the Kane captain choice anyway, you haven't been defeated yet but imo it was the wrong decision this week.

      Because the idea is that they were very glad with their Zlatan brace and assumed it was the best option... until Aguero equals his score and it's only the first half.

        That's a bit of a generalization isn't it?

        I have both players, knew both would do well, and struggled right up to the last minute in deciding who to captain.

        I ended up on Ibra but it was a 50/50 call and anyone who thought both wouldn't do well is an idiot.

        I don't think either owners can lol at the other as it was a lineball call that seemed to be the right call regardless of which option you picked.

        I'll happily take Ibra's captain points and happily take Kun's points as well. 😉
