We check up on the latest internationals over the last couple of days now, assessing the standout performers, main points of note and injury news.

Tomorrow, we’ll also roll out the first part of a team-by-team recap, checking the minutes played and miles travelled ahead of the weekend deadline.

As Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola prepare to go head-to-head for the first time in England, there were some encouraging displays from players on both sides of Manchester over Monday and Tuesday.

United’s Gameweek 3 match-winner Marcus Rashford underlined his prodigious talents by bagging a hat-trick in England U21s 6-1 thrashing of Norway last night.

It’s fair to say that David Silva is also a man in form ahead of the Manchester derby.

The playmaker scored twice in Spain’s 8-0 win over Liechtenstein on Monday evening, taking his tally to four goals and an assist in just two international appearances.

His City team-mate Nolito also caught the eye, supplying a trio of assists for Julen Lopetegui’s team, whilst Nicolas Otamendi bagged a late leveler for Argentina away to Venezuela.

Diego Costa and Romelu Lukaku both threw their hats in the ring as replacements for the suspended Sergio Aguero by bagging a brace apiece.

Costa’s double in Spain’s thrashing of Liechtenstein shows just why over 168,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have drafted him in this week.

Lukaku scored twice in Belgium’s 3-0 win over Cyprus last night and, with a mere 7% ownership, is shaping up to be a real differential ahead of some superb fixtures for Everton.

Eden Hazard and Philippe Coutinho sits first and second in terms of most-owned midfielders and the duo kept their domestic form ticking over by supplying assists for Belgium and Brazil respectively.

Coutinho’s Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane rolled out a handy injury update yesterday, confirming he is available for selection after being withdrawn for Senegal earlier in the week:

“I’m fit. It’s true I got a little kick in the back of the knee, but it was nothing special – it happened in the first half and I played for the rest of the game. I’d spoke with the coach and because we have new players, he wanted to try [them] and change me, so the substitution was not due to injury.I spoke to the coach [Klopp] and told him everything was OK, I am 100 per cent fit and there was nothing specific [to report]. After the game, I went to the airport to take a flight. When I reached Paris the following morning, I had many messages on my phone with people and my family asking what happened because they saw in the press I had an injury. I said to them, ‘no, no, I am okay!’.”

Southampton’s Dusan Tadic finally translated his underlying numbers to returns – for Serbia. The playmaker, who has produced nine shots and 10 key passes without success over the first three Gameweeks, grabbed a goal and assist in his nation’s 2-2 draw with Republic of Ireland on Monday – a match that saw Seamus Coleman and John O’Shea return from injury ahead of the weekend.

Coleman’s availability now places major question marks over Mason Holgate’s pitch time for the Toffees, whilst it’s a similar situation over at Swansea. Neil Taylor played the full 90 minutes for Wales and, now match fit, could be set to oust Stephen Kingsley – who sits third for transfers in amongst defenders this season – to the bench against Chelsea on Sunday.

Palace’s Wayne Hennessey also recovered from injury to turn out for Chris Coleman’s side but faces a tough task to oust Steve Mandanda as the Eagles’ number one ahead of the trip to Middlesbrough.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche was handed a timely boost ahead of Saturday’s home match against Hull, with new signing Jeff Hendrick and frontman Sam Vokes both getting amongst the goals for Ireland and Wales respectively.

Stoke City’s Marko Arnautovic bagged an assist in Austria’s 2-1 win over Georgia, whilst Potters’ new boy Joe Allen got on the scoresheet as Wales thrashed Moldova on Monday evening.

Mame Biram Diouf returned from international duties with a tight hamstring, which suggests that new loan signing Wilfried Bony could be in line make his debut at home to Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Meanwhile, according to the Telegraph, the visitors are monitoring the fitness of Danny Rose after the left-back picked up a hamstring strain in England’s 1-0 win over Slovakia on Sunday evening.

I see no mention of Mahrez' super free kick for Algeria in this article yet in an article yesterday there was a some cryptic quotes about him possibly not being on penalties.

Spent my 2 FT's on Kun - Ibra and Mahrez - Antonio.

This leaves me with 10.7m if I sell Long for:

    A. Defoe - guaranteed starts, pens, form
    B. Lukaku - guaranteed starts, pens?, lack of fitness, very hit and miss
    C. Benteke - Pens? Can CPL score lots?
    D. Costa, Vardy, or Bony?

All for -4pts but I think it's worth ditching Long

This could be interesting.. On WC 0.7itb

            Foster Pickford

            Valencia Williams Evans Amat Collins

            Hazard Ozil Sterling Antonio Capoue

            Ibra Lukaku Benteke

Plan is to do Antonio>Snoddy and Benteke>Costa using the 0.2 I would save on Collins>4.4
I know it's greedy but that front 3 excites me

            1. Jersey
              • 10 Years
              9 years, 10 months ago

you definitely need a better 4th defender than Pieters, since Amat will be on the bench soon
              as badly as he's playing.

since you're on WC, finding the money is easy here - Foster should rise to 4.7 this week. sell him for Heaton. that's .1. now you can downgrade Collins to a 4.5 (Kone, Roberstson, Souare, Friend) for another .1

there is also money to be had in Sterling. he has ManU this week, and then Champion's League and its rotation worries start. there are many choices for this spot.

just so you know, i prefer Benteke over Costa, and Antonio (who has amazing fixtures) in a big way over Snodgrass (whose fixtures are poor until wk 8, when they become super).

So you reckon stick with this then?

Is it worth investing some of that 0.7itb to upgrade Williams to baines? Although it will make it harder to get kun back

                1. Jersey
                  • 10 Years
                  9 years, 10 months ago

getting Kun back in after his ban is top priority.

make sure you have a plan for that, hopefully one that also keeps Ibra, Ozil, & Hazard.

anything that makes that harder is a no-no . . . no need to upgrade Williams to Baines.

like i said, you can also get money in the Sterling spot. he's a hot commodity because he is playing
well and he scored 2 goals last week, but this week is tough and i wonder about rotations issues.
he may rise again this week (hopefully you caught his first rise).

i think the Crystal Palace situation is perfect for Benteke. you are in on him early. if things work out well
there and he starts scoring, there's money to be made in him too.

Right, if I go boring and relatively template, here's what i've got (WC).

    Foster
    Baines // Collins // McAuley
    Sanchez // Hazard // Cazorla // Antonio
    Ibrahimovic // Lukaku // Benteke

Subs: Pickford // Capoue // Pieters // Amat
    0.0 ITB

Gives the option of Sanchez & Lukaku --> 6.8 mid & Aguero in GW 6 for free (price rises/falls aside), while keeping Arsenal attacking coverage in Cazorla.

The big problem? No City coverage for Bournemouth at home.

    Thoughts?

I think it's too much Everton that's annoying me.

Everton have the form and fixtures though, possibly swap Barley for Antonio. I'd play Valencia ahead of Souare.

Funny I was looking at that exact swap as WH fixtures are great. I'm not sure Valencia is nailed on this week though.

    2FT
    Foster
    Shaw/Stones/Terry
    Hazard/Lamela/Barkley/Redmond
    Aguero/Ibrah/Gray

    Aguero+ Redmond >> Benteke +Sanchez

    Seems the best move ...agree?

    Hi all, I'm stuck:

    A) Townsend / Aguero > Lukaku and Ozil
    B) Townsend / Aguero > Sanchez and Benteke
    C) Townsend / Aguero / Marhez > Sanchez, Lukaku and Barkley (-4)

    Please help!!!!

Edging towards C now, but (I) will Sanchez be rested after Chile games and (II) is double Everton too much?

Thanks - I did think about that, but Costa never seems to get bonus and always YC! He seems to like the swans though so could be a good 2 week punt!

So I'm debating a 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 for my wildcard team. I think at least 1 if not more sub-£6m 140+ points starters will be needed to facilitate Aguero et al, and can't see these coming up front. Given there's some great £5.5m defenders at only £1m more than the cheapest playing 4th def options, it seems like a good value upgrade to play every week to enable some big hitters. Maybe I'm being naively optimistic?!

Ultimately I think Snodgrass is the man for this mission but just not yet, so I'm torn between spending the Aguero funds for either:
    A) Sanchez(c) and Walker starting
    B) Ozil and Antonio starting

    Rest of team is:
    Foster
    Valencia Shaw Baines
    Hazard Sterling Firmino
    Ibra Bony

    Bench: Pickford Friend/Capoue Amat Diomande

    Thoughts on options?
Also who are people thinking are best shout for their long term 10th/11th man enablers?

Anyone on WC going ibra less? Hell be replaced by Aguero in 2 weeks anyway so might as well pick a striker with some better fixtures.

    Anyone using AOA this week?

Valencia, Baines (Stones, Van Dijk, Amat)
    Ozil, Eriksen, Firmino, Townsend, Ramirez
    Gray, Ibra, Lukaku

I was thinking about it. It's no where near as powerful as the other chips. I can see this weekend being high scoring with few clean sheets so it seems a good a time as any to waste it

Contemplating a -8 and would appreciate some thoughts.
    A) no hit, bench kun and play deulofeu and capoue
    B) Deulofeu and Kun to Tekkers and Sanchez, bench capoue or redmond
    C) same as B but Ozil and Lukaku/Costa instead

Always planned on saving wildcard for a bit longer but not liking the team much as it stands.

    Foster Jaku
    Souare Stones Williams Amat Shaw
    Sanchez Redmond Ramirez Firminho
    Costa Lukaku Ibra

Then aguero plan is Lukuku + Costa -> Aguero and 7.4m

Any thoughts on that WC team?
