West Ham’s dire form shows no sign of abating, as Southampton march into the London Stadium and take three points, with Charlie Austin amongst the goals once again. Here’s the Stock Check from Sunday’s encounter….

On the Rise

Charlie Austin
Having scored four goals in the previous three across all competitions, the Saints striker was granted a second Premier League start of the season by Claude Puel. Austin vindicated that decision with the opener and also supplied the assist for Dusan Tadic’s goal; he is clearly in the midst of a hot streak right now.

With Leicester City, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool in the next six, though, the fixtures are hardly in his favour.

Dusan Tadic
After a slow start to the season, the Serbian continues to build momentum. Tadic opened the campaign with a trio of blanks but has since served up points in each of the subsequent three. Assists against Arsenal and Swansea City were followed up with an ice-cool finish against the Hammers as the Saints chalked up a fourth straight win in all competitions.

Ryan Bertrand and Cedric Soares
It’s back-to-back clean sheets for the Saints in the Premier League after keeping out Swansea City last weekend. Ryan Bertrand earned his first attacking points of the season with an assist for Austin’s goal, while Cedric Soares mirrored his fellow full-back for bonus with two apiece.

The duo have now served up 18 and 17 points respectively in the last couple of Gameweeks as Puel’s approach finally takes hold.

In Decline

Dimitri Payet
Much was expected of the Hammers today, from what was the first of four home matches in six. While Michail Antonio’s kinder price may persuade some to hold ahead of visits from Middlesbrough, Stoke City and Sunderland, the premium priced Payet may well be seen as surplus to requirements. Yet to score in the league so far, he has been subject to more transfers out than any midfielder this term and that trend may well continue in light of today’s uninspiring display.

Michail Antonio
Antonio’s stock also takes a dent following the tactical tweaks from Slaven Bilic. With the Hammers chasing the game, Bilic replaced Håvard Nordtveit with striker Ashley Fletcher on 71 minutes. Antonio was then shifted to become an attacking right-back – a move which could become familiar should West Ham find themselves in a similar scenario again. Given their form, that seems likely.

James Collins
The Welshman’s run in West Ham’s first XI came to an end after he dropped out of the squad today. Having started each of the first five, Collins – who rose to 9% ownership in FPL – was clearly earmarked as the fall guy, with Winston Reid returning to partner Angelo Ogbonna at centre-half. Today’s capitulation may well force another rethink, though – the Hammers have now shipped 14 goals in the last four.

Defence requires some change over the next few GWS

Fixtures look very poor for GW8

Valencia Williams Evans Amat all against strong attacking teams and Kone plays for Sunderland!! 0itb is worry too..

Is Valencia >> Vert a solid move or Evans to Watford?

I have the same defense except PVA and McAuley instead of Evans and Kone. Haven't thought about this. I'm sure people are still trying to figure out their attacks first and have similar defenses. That said, Spurs look the top defense to have atm

I got that line for a cheapie frontline (Kun Defoe Benteke)

Contemplating Baines & Masuaku -> Bellerin/Kos & cheapo during the int break for free.

What a stinker I have just had.
WC last week and got rid of Alexis and Lallana. Now I have just spent 12 points to get them back in.
    Current team
    Pickford (Jak)
    Walker Coleman Holebas (Amat Lenihan)
    Alexis Coutinho Lallana Sterling (Capoue)
    Aguero Austin Costa
Any thoughts? Anyone else had a shocker aswell? Think I need to step kneejerking

      They can both score.

Better to play Evans instead of Williams?

If holebas doesn't play my defenders would give me 2 points this gw (Evans). Rest are baines, Amat and souare.

Do we think Southampton will keep picking up CSs?

I've had VVD from the start and have been meaning to transfer him out since around GW3 but have never had the transfers.
Now with money tight, VVD to a 4.5m (maybe Holebas) would be handy but seems foolish after they've kept back to back CS.

Swansea and West Ham aren't the greatest teams and they have lei, city, CHE, LIV, EVE in their next 7.
Do you think I should keep VVD?

I think West Ham have great next 3 fixtures to turn around the recent performance. Would you rather go a for Southampton defense which has really tough upcoming fixtures and they are strongest at home. Not really great at away games.

No way I'm going anywhere near that West Ham defence.
14 goals conceded in 4 games.

Cheers guys. Looks like I'll thank VVD for his services and ditch for Holebas

Not talking about picking up West Ham's Defense. I have collins and he has been giving me 0 points back to back GW. I am ditching him for Holebas right now.

Does Charlie Austin look like a good pick ? Looking at So'ton's upcoming fixtures, I am not quite sure. Would it rather make sense to do a Antonio to Lallana swap?

Too much rotation with Long waiting in the wings.

With Austin bagging in an assist and goal. Its tough that long would even get the nod upfront. Especially with the kind of misses he has been making since the last few games.

I would think Austin has cemented his starting place at least for the immediate short-term

Sorry I'm sure this has been posted a million times this weekend but...

What is the situation regarding Baines and Shaw and injuries going into next week?

I think Shaw should be back. United dont even have CL. And I am sure he'll be rested for Europa.

Cheers, got to decide whether to absorb the price drop ahead of STO or move early and get rid

Mourinho should play Rojo for Europa, I am pretty sure he will. Atleast he won't risk Shaw for sure. I would keep him especially for his Attacking prospects and with Ibra being the best player in the air in the PL now.

I need 4pt from Holebas to win my H2H..
Antonio, Firmino, Lukatroll and Zlatan, all deceived me this week.
Worst of all, I played Pickford over Cech! 🙁
      Rival also has Capoue playing!

Capoue bagging in an goal for sure this week.

All in my mini league got capoue and playing them, not gonna be big difference for me. But none of them got holebas, so make or break for me.

very small chances for him to do anything though *sigh*

"Sure" is not an appropriate word for this week..
I was sure Zlatan will score, same with Firmino and Lukaku.. but ended up with 2 points each..

      Better than WHM though..
But when you realise you have Zlatan, Firmino, Lukaku, Bolasie and Antonio, who are not the cheapest players.. and all ended up with 2pointers in the same GW, then you realise how sh*t the team is! 🙁

But you did have Aguero(C) to save your gw right?

Collins (West ham) and (Antonio) for Holebas and Lallana (-4). I have to do both cause I am sure Lallana's price would increase during the week and Liv play United next. If it has to be done then its gotta be both or nothing. I am pre-planning for GW6 and hence want double Liv players.

Wouldn't want to double up Liv players for future? Cause I know for sure I won't play antonio this GW as I have:

Sanchez, Sterling, Mane, Antonio and Capoue in the MF

And For striker I have Negredo (who would be playing against West Ham, so hes starting for sure).

if you won't play Antonio, will you play Lallana if you were to get him? Seems like a waste to take a hit for him if you're only gonna bench him

Would bench Sterling in that case.
