After seven Gameweeks of 2016/17 – which included five away fixtures – Liverpool are sitting pretty in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are just two points off the summit, having chalked up wins over Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester, in addition to a draw on the road at Tottenham.

A Gameweek 2 loss at Burnley – where they produced 26 attempts on goal to their hosts’ three in a 2-0 defeat – has been the one temporary blip for the red half of Merseyside.

It’s fair to say that the Reds’ midfield has been fundamental to their displays – all but one of their 18 goals have arrived from the centre of the park.

From a Fantasy Premier League perspective, though, pinpointing the optimum Liverpool player in any given Gameweek has proven a near-impossible task.

Five of Klopp’s players – James Milner, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane – have scored at least three times.

As a result, that quintet are all placed in the top 11 midfielders in FPL, with Milner – despite his stint at left-back – benefitting from spot-kick duties four times already.

With time to pause and assess during the international break, we delve into both the team and player data as Liverpool prepare for a schedule that looks ripe for significant investment.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Hi guys

Continuing to try to work out the best transfer for this team:

    Pickford
    Walker Williams Lovren
    Antonio Capoue Sanchez Firmino
    Kun Kaku Costa
    Jaku / Fletch Amat 3.9

    0.6 itb / 2fts

Which of these is best for the long run:
    A) Bellerin and Snodgrass/Shaqiri (dk which) in for Williams and Antonio
    B) Mustafi/Monreal and 4.5 (Holebas, Robertson - again dk) in for Williams and Lovren

Worried Antonio will troll me if I remove; really want to remove Williams to reduce exposure to the City Eve game in defence and to bring in an Arsenal defender; no idea which

        Hey Viper

You think so? With that defence? Feels a bit weak to me, which is why I've been thinking of using the 2FTs to sort it out

        Interesting idea

Williams -> Verthongen is an option too, saving 2nd FT so you can reassess the following week

Feel like improvement of at least Williams is necessary - sure it's one game vs City but yeah in the long term I just wana have a player like Bellerin in there I can leave all year.

Dk what other things to do - front 7 looks really good, just maybe Antonio I'd maybe remove to finance the arsenal def

Would you make any changes, Bubz?

Yeah for sure - I have to really get someone in, I'm definitely waiting until Pickford is ruled in/out, happy with budget keepers it's just beign sure they're playing!

I feel like I definitely need an Arsenal defender, but it's just the configuration of that which is a pain

Haha, I know, but I'm never playing Fletcher (I play with all my money on the pitch haha, don't care about bench).

Capoue will be removed as soon as Diego Costa gets his 5th YC and upgraded for Son/Walcott, so it'll just be a lightweight midfield for just 1 week if I go for the Bellerin / Snoddy/Shaq option..

It's been my Achilles heel all season, my defence - keep getting okay scores with front 7 but absolutely ruined by having like 5 points total from my 3 defensive players.

A few people saying I should actually keep Antonio for now - I guess he can be easily swapped at his price, plus cpl SUN eve STO aren't awful games.

            Massive food for thought!

    A. Baines & Rashford -> Verthongen & Wilson

    B. Antonio & Rashford -> Walcott & Wilson

    C. Baines & Rashford -> Koscielny & Austin

Every 0.1m is crucial in these moves so I can't do Wilson over Austin for example. I also own Coleman

Probaby C will get you the most value in the short term; I think (as I've said above) that an Arsenal defender is really important for the next 2 home games in a row.

I do like B as well, but why not Son instead of Walcott as you already have Sanch?

I don't like Vertonghen (A) - I had him last year for a long period of the year and he offers nothing above the standard 6. Not a BPS magnet, and Toby gets forward whereas he hangs back.

My only replacements are Snodgrass (punt) and Shaqiri (fixtures are great, but oh-so-much-punt) so I'm kind of thinking I'll do a defensive move instead (probably Williams / Lovren --> Mustafi and 4.5)

It's very random, but it seems the new rules have created conditions for Milner to thrive!

I think, as the Scouts have been saying, it seems best to have at least one of them - Milner could well be the one you have - and just hope he's the one that does something that week.

I have Bobby F, for example - does nothing one week, then scores and assists the next. It's such a lottery.

      • 10 Years

I had Milner but ultimately, better value surely exists in his price range given that he is playing left back, albeit advanced, and pens aren't going to keep coming at the rate they have for Pool.

I think he only has one assist so far.

Wow, very left field - are you playing a draft game?

None of them! Maybe, at a stretch, B, but Slimani and Leicester don't come in to good fixtures for a couple of weeks. Maybe Deeney instead of him?

I like B bc Pieters has good fixtures, though he's not a good full back in terms of FPL returns, Alli will do well this year and Slimani is scoring, and will score a bit.

However depends on whether you have a transfer mechanic for your draft league, and how it works.

If you're doing an exchange, I'd take C as this is the longest term value pick of those options - Spurs will keep cleanies (Vert), Alli will get forward and surely Bony must be able to do *something* in those Stoke fixtures!

I don't think Ibra is essential. I'd take him out and replace him with a far cheaper player that's in form (Deeney, for example) and repurpose the money - if you want to play 3-5-2, then Iwobi can become someone better. If not, use the Ibra money to upgrade Diomande too and put Iwobi down to a 4.5 or something

At the back, Stones is not a good defender to own currently; City aren't keeping clean sheets. Maybe think about changing him, too.

Keepers are also a bit risky, but I like the cheap combo 🙂

I like both, Wilson scored a hattie at home last year for me in a similar game to the one he's got next (Hull) so he's definitely worthy of consideration, especially at his price tag. And Deeney won me my FPL league last year, so I love the guy.

I think they'll score fairly equitably in the short term, so maybe factors like getting a differential in from ML rivals is more your guide here... plus obviously injuries in international break

    Ibra's first month:

When the prices hit your eye like a big pizza pie,
    Zlat's amore.
When his goal record did shine like you've had too much wine,
    Zlat's amore.
    Shots would rain in - a - lin - a - lin, in - a - lin - a - lin,
and you'll sing "I need this fella"
and if Utd can play tikky - takka - tay, tikki - takka - tay,
    he'll be a rich man's Graziano Pellè

When his baps make you drool just like a big Swedish meatball,
    Zlat's amore.
With the smile on your face after his gameweek 2 brace,
    You're in love.
Like a big ponytailed dream but you know you're not,
    Dreaming seniore.
Scuzza me, but you see, back in old gameweek 3,
    Zlat's amore.

    Ibra's second month:

When Stoke at home hit your eye like a big pizza pie,
    Zlat's amore.
Under Pulis they were fine but now it's like they've had too much wine,
    Zlat's amore.
    Shots will rain in - a - lin - a - lin, in - a - lin - a - lin,
    and you'll sing "Vita bella"
with Rooney away, Pogba can play tippy-tappy-tay, tippy-tippy tay,
and we'll all celebrate with a Stella.

His stats made us drool just like a Swedish meatball,
    Zlat's amore.
But Stoke keeper danced down the street, saving everything with his feet,
    Stealing the love.
Who the hell is Lee Grant? Like a kiss from a stubbly aunt.
    I feel sick.
Scuzza me, but you see, I miss gameweek 3,
    Kolo Toure.

    Sanchez Walcott Coutinho Lallana KDB
    Aguero Deeney (4.5m filth)

this is an easily affordable front 7...

why not put all your eggs in three baskets... with double city, arsenal and pool? after all - they are all going to score the most!

    Discuss...

    (this works with a 9.5 keeper combo and a 5.5, 4.5, 4.5, 4.5, 4 defender one)

Sterling over KDB at the moment. he possibly may come back into the equation, but those funds can upgrade a defender. Or you can upgrade Lallana to one of Firmino or Mane

I'm not on it obviously, just food for thought... I have payet, snoddy and lukaku following my wildcard a couple of weeks ago... but I'm def going to bomb those three in a couple of weeks (part Payet and Lukaku) to get another City/Pool player. I think doubling up on those two especially is going to very profitable

keep in mind Son as well with his form...maybe he is a better alternative to walcott.

not the worse idea...though i'm sure we will change our minds in 2 weeks 😉

Yep, nice - kind of the midfield we're all thinking of getting but not quite taking the plunge on.

The only ? I'd have is actually whether you need Coutinho AND Lallana - it really seems like a total lottery which Liverpool player(s) come away with the points at the moment, so it might be worth having just the one and upgrading your 4.5 filth to a viable, cheap striker like Wilson.

But I like it a lot.

Not long term but short term looks good. I think Son deserves a place in there if Spurs and him keep up their form.

Basically my attack at the moment with Lukaku instead of Deeney. Currently on:

      Sanchez Walcott Sterling Firmino Capoue
      Aguero Lukaku Barnes

With the money to do Capoue to Lallana. Not sure that's the best use of a transfer this week though. Might be better to shift McAuley in the short term and get another Liverpool mid after the United game.

      Good.

I don't like Vert as a Spurs option. I had him for a lot of last year to differentiate myself from my ML rival who had Toby... bad decision (I brought Toby in on my WC eventually).

Vert stays back whereas Toby gets forward, and he's not a BP magnet as much as the other options in the Spurs defence.

Any cash itb to do Vert to someone else?

for a minus 4 (max) I think that's fine given downgrading ozil allows you to upgrade Leko to Son

that said you are carrying Bainsey like a lead balloon

I'd arguably downgrade him AND valencia to afford leko to son without taking out ozil who will get points - if you can afford it

If I want KdB in, let's say, 2 or 3 weeks. I could drop Payet for him. But which transfer would you make to fund it:

    A. Coleman to 4,3m def
    B. Walker to 4,7m def
    C. Firmino to Lallana
    D. Lukaku to Benteke
    E. Something else.

Firmino has been the better FPL scorer. He and Coutinho are both 24 years old, both played similar minutes last year, with Firmino scoring just over 7 points per 90 and Coutinho just under 6. Firmino's FPL point-scoring rate last season was better than every regular player except Mahrez, just ahead of Aguero. I think the site gets carried away sometimes with underlying statistics. Firmino in the long run is likely to be the better fantasy pick unless/until there's a sea change in the players' developments (which can happen but it's nothing to bet on).

Sanchez then no one IMO. A or D maybe as they are nailed even when people are fully fit IMO. The others are not.

Ignoring Sanchez as not enough in bank to get him

I think I might end up using one of my free transfer to swap Jakupovic to Grant. Probably the most boring transfer I've ever made 😀

If you have another playing GK then there is zero point. waste of an FT IMO. Grant will have 3 games max as well. Then what?

Wouldn't say zero point. Could score well especially if other keeper has dodgy fixtures plus might have made 0.1 on Jaku then can swap other keeper maybe

I have 2 free transfers and no urging matters to deal with this week. So it is a matter of using it or "lose" one free transfer. Team is:

        Pick Jaku
        Coleman Walker Holebas Amat MKelly
        Firmino Snoddy Capoue Alexis Payet
        Kun Lukaku Deeney

2 Ft and 0,0m in bank. Would you use it for something else?

          I'd do it.

I'd be tempted to lose Coleman seeing as awful fixture. Can always put him back coz your team looks solid

I'm fumbling for worthwhile transfers to make on this team (2FT, 0 itb)

    Foster Pickford
    Walker Williams A.Smith Holebas Amat
    Sanchez Sterling Firmino Antonio Capoue
    Aguero Lukaku Deeney

    Antonio, Williams > Snodgrass, Kos?
