As we approached the new season, hopes were high that Dimitri Payet could prove irresistible for our five-man midfields in 2016/17.

Restricted to just 26 minutes over the first three Gameweeks due to injury, Payet has been sold by a massive 589,000+ so far – only Eden Hazard and Riyad Mahrez have been subject to more sales in the centre of the park.

Since returning to the West Ham first XI in Gameweek 4, though, Payet has been quick to rediscover his Fantasy form.

Impressively, the Frenchman has played a part in all five of his side’s goals over that period. Payet provided two assists against both Watford and West Brom before serving up a stunning solo effort at home to Middlesbrough last time out.

With 30 points accrued in his four starts, then, this latest article for members casts an eye over Payet’s recent displays, assessing them against last season’s numbers before checking out the stats over the last four Gameweeks relative to other midfielders.

Same old England no matter what the Manager, need to try something different - get a player in that can actually beat a man or two (Zaha) its just the same old rubbish formula.

I rate Zaha - he has a lot of potential which is why Poch wanted him for Spurs. But I have no idea what that stat proves.

Essentially proves he can beat a man (or 3) but had no quality target man to aim for to stick them away at the end (step forward Benteke this season)

Or gets in great positions but can't pick a pass. There are many ways to interpret these tables.

His link up with Benteke this season will be very interesting and I hope he develops and if he does I'm sure he will get his chance.

England have been garbage to watch for the best part of 20 years, when you consistently play rubbish football there come a time when you have to admit they are not very good, separate club performances as judge them solely on international games, the 96 team was about as good as we will see in our lifetimes, you may view this as negative but I prefer realistic

'98 team wasn't too bad once Owen was selected and Beckham shifted from wingback, but yes England have been poor for years. I'd prefer the manager picked a system and then picked the best players for the positions and tactics. Too often there are a few players filling in in positions that don't don't suit them.

Does anyone really care? Next tournament isn't for two years, when we'll probably have an entirely different (and still probably terrible) squad. We don't have a manager and as usual the football is abysmal.

Reminds me of the time there was talk of a United Ireland team (same as in rugby).

They could have fielded a strike force of Cascarino and Dowie. Imagine having to face those two with a ball lumped into the box. Or even just having to look at them come to that. 😉

Cascarino genuinely believed an Irish maternal grandfather, Michael O'Malley, from Westport, qualified him to play for Ireland when he was first selected. He discovered that O'Malley was not a blood relative only in 1986. His mother discovered only on her father's deathbed that she was not his natural daughter.

Throughout Cascarino's international career, his mother knew that his supposed Irish grandfather was not her real father and therefore was not a blood relative, but she said nothing. She revealed the truth to her son only when he retired from international football.

Ah, fair enough I didn't realise he found out after he had retired from international football. Charlton's Ireland team really was a team that was more than the sum of its parts and they looked like they had a great team spirit.

England's issue (apart from shocking individual errors in defence) is that we never attack players down the flanks. Always play wingers that want to be strikers instead of wingers that want to be wingers. Play Townsend & Ox.

Sterling lingard Walcott won't create anything by themselves

    1. Worzel Gummidge

The problem is they don't have any world class players yet fans think they are a good side and have ridiculous expectations. I think the penny has finally dropped recently tbf and people are starting to see that the team is gash even with the population and supposed wealth of talent.

And there is the fundamental problem - the PL. That is why England are so crap. Overseas players forming the majority of teams in the PL. Realism is whilst this is the case England will continue to be rubbish as English young players don't get the game time and therefore the pool to choose from is smaller and the ability range limited.

Maybe so but at the moment he's still potentially the best scoring playing in that price range ( especially if you paid 4.5 - 4.8).
Point is he's a playing 5th mid which occasionally comes off the bench and secondly my question remains - how many times did you have 0 itb during the seson, usually straight after the wildcard and that's about it with a few ( well planned) exceptions.

i love having a good bench.. so i dont mind paying a slight premium for a good playing sub.. Allen/Capoue look like the only ones under 5.0 though. thinking of stretching to snoddy if not 🙂

Depends what you want from a cheap midfielder. He's not really the type to be a regular goal threat though. Just had a good run.

They might be switching formation a bit leaving him doing a bit more defensive work. I'd sell him if I had no other transfer to do.

Probably historical due to being at war with most of them, reckon other former dominant nations do it as well.

Which is worse, calling a Scot a Jock or a scouser a thief? Because I've seen that posted many times, usually by the same posters who complain about other stereotypes. Always makes me cringe when I see that. 🙂

Rule #982 in the official FPL rule-book: do NOT transfer out a player that is scoring well.

I've learnt this the hard way when I took Lukaku out a few weeks ago.

Tempted by the Lukaku > Tekkers move as well. The ticker says they have a tough run but they really don't. WHM lei LIV is not bad at all for an attacker.

    - Aguero Sanchez Son - All back of 2 international games with slight risk of rest (or hauled off early)

Deeney or Austin as third striker option?
Think Deeney has better upcoming fixtures but Austin (if he keeps his place) could be a great investment at current price.
