Aguero plays and fails, Ozil allays any injury fears and Willian works wonders as the October international break finally comes to a close.

Here’s the pick of Tuesday’s events.

AGUERO’S WEEK TO FORGET

Pundits and fans alike often despair that players don’t take their club form into international matches, but Manchester City supporters will be more than happy if Sergio Aguero (13.1) leaves his latest Argentina performances 7,000 miles away in South America.

Aguero blanked against Peru on Friday, treated his 1.6 million-plus Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners to an injury scare and then recovered to blank again against Paraguay, missing a penalty and two excellent chances in the 1-0 home defeat.

There was some slightly better news for City fans from the match – right back Pablo Zabaleta (4.8) played no part having been suspended for Tuesday’s encounter, along with team-mate Nicolas Otamendi. Both have returned early to the Etihad ahead of the Gameweek 8 meeting with Everton.

Zabaleta is the obvious choice to cover for Bacary Sagna (5.4), who will be out until next month with a hamstring injury picked up on duty with France.

WILLIAN WORKING WELL

Just about the only bright spot of Chelsea’s dark days last season was the form of winger Willian (7.3).

And the Brazilian is quietly going about his business again this campaign.

He scored Brazil’s second goal in the 2-0 win in Venezuela to go with his two strikes in six domestic starts for Chelsea, including a GW7 goal at Hull City.

Owned by 5.6% of FPL managers, Willian has scored just five points fewer than the far more popular (and expensive) Eden Hazard (9.9) and represents a more cost effective way into a Chelsea midfield with three home matches out of their next four, albeit against Leicester City, Manchester United and Everton.

Liverpool’s Phillipe Coutinho (8.3) again started for Brazil, while team-mate Roberto Firmino (8.4) was an unused sub.

OZIL OKAY

Mesut Ozil’s (9.5) sedate start to the season continued as Germany brushed Northern Ireland aside 2-0.

The Arsenal midfielder was taken off at half-time, prompting fears that the 7.4%-owned star might be injured.

He quickly took to Twitter to allay any worries, saying: “Thanks for taking care because of my substitution, but everything is all right guys.”

What is less than all right is his domestic record this season – two goals but no assists from six matches. And another lukewarm night wasn’t exactly the ideal preparation for three mouth-watering upcoming fixtures for the Gunners against Swansea and Middlesbrough at home and Sunderland away.

BEING ENNER VALENCIA

A comedy police chase involving a medical buggy, an ambulance and unpaid child support one match, both goals in a stirring Ecuador comeback the next – being Enner Valencia (5.4) is not a boring occupation.

The Everton striker has played just 35 minutes of the last four league matches, but one way or another boss Ronald Koeman can’t have failed to notice his international contributions.

However, the fine form of Romelu Lukaku (9.4) is highly likely to keep Valencia’s match-time limited – unless the Belgian fails to recover from a minor thigh injury.

Valencia’s rather more stable namesake, Antonio (5.6), again played in an advanced midfield role and set up one of the forward’s goals in the 2-2 draw with Bolivia.

It’s been an excellent international break for the Manchester United man, who also scored and provided an assist in the 3-0 win over Chile.

But it will be back to full back duties when Valencia faces tricky trips to Liverpool and then Chelsea next.

More Cut-Price Frontmen Impress

Hull’s Adama Diomande (4.6) served up a goal and assist in Norway’s 4-1 triumph over San Marino.

The Tigers forward, who sits in 7% of FPL sides, has struggled for a domestic end product, managing just one goal from seven starts on the left wing.

Nonetheless, he has a favourable run of fixtures, starting with clashes against AFC Bournemouth, Stoke City and Watford in the next three matches, for those looking for a cut-price forward to help facilitate the move to 3-5-2.

Aside from Diomande and Valencia, a couple more forwards budget frontmen arrived on our radars.

Sunderland’s Duncan Watmore (5.0) produced a goal and assist in England Under 21s over Bosnia.

The youngster – who was handed his first full 90 minutes of the season in GW7 – registered an assist in the 1-1 home draw with West Brom.

Middlesbrough’s Christhian Stuani (5.1) earned an assist in Uruguay’s draw with Colombia.

Having scored three times in five top-flight outings, the Uruguayan is second only to Jermain Defoe (£7.2m) for value up front.

Finally, Bournemouth’s Josh King (5.4) scored his second goal in three matches, following one in the GW7 2-2 draw at Watford, as Norway saw off San Marino 4-1.

King is currently the Cherries top points-scoring FPL midfielder, but is owned by just 0.7%.

An attractive run of fixtures, including Hull and Sunderland at home and Middlesbrough and Stoke City away in the next five Gameweeks, might change all that.

    Jaku/Pickford

    Smith/Baines/Lovren/Holebas/Verthongen
    Sterling/Firminho/Sanchez/Capoue/Marney
    Aguero/Lukaku/Deeney

    0.1 itb/2 FT/ WC used

    things which worry me:
    1. No ARS defender
    2. Capoue in the midfield
    3. Lack of elasticity

I really don't want to get rid of Lukaku but that;s the easiest option to get some money..

    Options to be considered:
    a. Lukaku/Lovren -> Benteke/Monreal - 0.7 itb to upgrade Capoue next week
    b. Lukaku/Capoue -> Benteke/Milner
    c. save
    d?

    1. AndyCook
      9 years, 9 months ago

No defensive cover for a team is rarely worth worrying about. 0.7 not enough to upgrade Capoue to anyone worth having (probably can't get Snodgrass) this means to keep Lukaku lose Baines.

    2. AndyCook
      9 years, 9 months ago

Sorry you lose Lukaku either way, my mistake. Lukaku and Baines out, Monreal and Benteke in. Or go cheaper than Benteke e.g Deeney

    3. AndyCook
      9 years, 9 months ago

Either Lukaku and Baines to Benteke and Monreal/Mustafi or Lukaku and Lovren to Deeney and Monreal/Mustafi

Hi...in terms of value for money which is the best arsenal defender to invest in?

    Bellerin...6.5
    Kos...6.2
    Mustafi...6
Monreal 6...doesn't seem to be popular round here

    Thanks

As far as value go, Koscielny at the moment. At this rate he will surpass Bellerin in value.

Mustafi is an interesting case. I was deterred from picking him because of his disciplinary records showing he liked a yellow card every now and then. Has proven himself to be quite good though, and before Koscielny scored a fluke of an overtime goal with his hand, the bonus point system was all about Mustafi. 0.2m less as well.

Cheers.....the 0.5 saved through the mustafi over bellerin could make a massive difference to your team....

And why does not one go for monreal?

a bit worried we're over-judging mustafi on 1 match bps wise. yep he beasted koscielny that match as for whatever reason he was having to do all the defending, 16 CBIs and 6 tackles compared to just 2 and 6 for Kosc. 40 bps is a monstrous score with no goals or assists.

he'll need to prove it over more games imo. i have been impressed with his lack of fouls so far though, it's one thing fell aggressive CB otamendi failed to stamp out when coming to the premier league with a dodgy disciplinary record, mustafi looks much cooler though.
as for the goal threat again stats i think are fairly useless at this stage imo, the numbers are too small.

i would back kosc to get a goal for every 2 bellerin assists, so it arguably comes down to can bellerin score goals too to make the difference worthwhile.

although i guess you can argue it's not that simple as an assist with a clean sheet is almost guarenteed 2-3 bonus, so 10 assists could be worth a lot more extra bonus than 5 goals

Looking at Bellerin's goal threat and he is seeing more touches in the opposition box... goals bound to come soon?

He has also improved massively this season compared to last season

He has three times the amount of touches in the box compared to Koscielny bu they have the same amount of attempts. When are you guys going to cop on to the fact that touches in the box are not a sign of goal threat, there is absolutely no correlation.

The bps stats will change. Kosc and Sack used to trade bonus all the time. I see no reason for this to change. I personally believe Bellerin is probably the best option but there is a price discrepancy to consider. Is Bellerin going to get the points to make that difference worthwhile especially as Kosc is the popular pick and is likely to continue to accrue value for players?

I do, but mostly only because I would not want to lose the opportunity to double down on their attack instead. Walcott is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

In addition its a money thing. Do you want 2 defenders in excess of 6m? Not right now for me.

Post lost on thread last night:
    1) Cazorla to Son? (Cazorla fresh and easier fixture but Son in-form and due to go up)
    2) Antonio worth keeping still? Could do Antonio to Son and keep Cazorla.
    3) Why is Mustafi most likely to get BAPs? I'd read yesterday a few people had said this. Surely that's Kos?

Everton and spurs fixtures get a little trickier for clean sheets. Baines on pens, (unless Lukaku steps up), but no longer on corners. Stones I think is safe, despite struggling to keep clean sheets.

Midfield looks ok, Antonio may look more suspect as fixtures get tougher - he can't continue on the form he's on. If Redmond keeps starting up front he'll be safe.

Front 3 looks good for next 3 fixtures Deeney to Rashford if he continues to start is a good switch after that. Costa will likely be suspended before that time also.

      Hope that helps.

Spurs have kept 1 clean sheet on the road so far. 3 games away over next 4 fixtures. Don't be fooled by the Man City game, they wont play better than that all season. Vert is a good shout, don't get me wrong, but be aware of what you've got coming up!

Coleman... with the high scoring LFC mids it's harder for Clyne to get in the BPS when Liverpool score 3+

Coleman. I personally rate Seamus very high among RBs. And Liverpool have better picks than Clyne, so that swings it for me.

Lukaku will play unless his leg is broken. All the Everton lads want to take advantage of Bravo and Stones. Baines although maybe fit will not be rushed back unless 100%. Oviedo is quicker and will cut down flank attacks from City more effectively. Just a scouse opinion.

    Guys Help Please!

    I have 2 FT's this week but not sure what to do with them, current team is;

    Heaton/Foster
    Valencia/Stones/Holebas/Baines/Friend
    Capoue/Bolasie/Sanchez/Firminho/Antonio
    Lukaku/Aguero/Deeney

    0.1ITB

I'm a big fan of Arnie at Stoke so considering upgrading Bolasie to him but this would mean downgrading Baines/Valencia to someone like Pieters at Stoke assuming they can muster 1-2 clean sheets over the coming weeks.

I could also keep Bolasie and upgrade Valencia to Vertonghen.

Just can't decide what to do! Ideas welcome boys!
