A Watford wing-back and a Southampton striker bolster their CV’s as value acquisitions over Sunday’s encounters. Here’s the latest Stock Check from Gameweek 8…

On the Rise

Jose Holebas
A superbly struck drive provided a second goal of the season, which, coupled with a first Hornets clean sheet of the campaign, saw the Greek return a 15-point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul.

Still hovering on four bookings, one away from a ban, Holebas nonetheless represents a key defensive option at just 4.5.

The Greek benefited from Walter Mazzarri’s decision to revert to a 3-5-2, ensuring that Holebas was granted the freedom to push forward from wing-back.

Given his attacking prowess and prominence at dead-balls, Holebas appears to offer potential that can present value even when Watford’s fixtures stiffen.

Holebas faces Swansea City and Hull City in the next two Gameweeks.

Charlie Austin
His two goals in Southampton’s 3-1 victory over Burnley took him to four in his last four Gameweeks to promote his value as a 6.4 third striker option.

In a weekend that saw both Christian Benteke and Jemaine Defoe draw blanks, Austin has emerged as a clear alternative that can help to liberate valuable funds.

Austin appears to have assumed spot-kick duties from Dusan Tadic, and although he’s yet to complete 90 minutes this season, he’s started the last three for Claude Puel.

Nathan Redmond
Having suffered more than 200,000 FPL sales over the last five Gameweeks, the 5.9 midfield option returned to the scoresheet with his first strike since Gameweek 1.

Redmond has impressed in a striker role without scoring in recent weeks but appears to be integral to Puel’s attacking ploys.

However, with Sofiane Boufal approaching match fitness, it remains to be seen how Redmond slots into the Saints system in the weeks to come.

Tom Heaton
On the losing side, Heaton nonetheless boosted his stock with a stunning performance which saw him make 11 saves and earn three points plus bonus.

Heaton has now made 40 saves in total, fetching 10 points from saves this season – more than any other goalkeeper.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Both pair costs exactly the same. Which one do you prefer ?

    A) Sterling Austin

    B) Costa Allen

      Costa Allen.

I like the danger of Costa and the plucky under dog of Allen. No idea which ones score more pts though...maybe Sterling Austin.

Thanks, I'd really like a couple of more free transfers to fit more players in, but that's where I'm at 🙂

I'd really like to upgrade the defence, without downgrading the midfield too much and it's seems like an impossible task atm.

Hmm good idea actually, but I'd really like to give Snodgrass another chance at least. The other question is, how long will Walcott be nailed for? Once Giroud and Ramsey are fit, there will surely be rotation.

Oh for goodness sake Walcott has played more minutes than any Arsenal mid. Wenger has said he expects him to have best season and is a Wenger favourite. Ramsay will more likely play double pivot so competing with Caz Xhaka

Indeed. Thoughts on Leicester's Hernandez as an option? I see I don't really need him to play (might as well have Kingsley there for 0.2m less), but if he does begin to start games he looks a bargain.

Same here, I got him as a punt, but he failed completely. Even FFFix suggested it so I took him instead of Evans. Not that he's much better, but at least I wouldn't be losing money.

Maybe not the occasion exactly but just that they might misfire.

The assumption is they could win because the way they are blowing teams away but I'm not so sure.

If I had to guess I'd say score draw.

                1-1 or 2-2 might do a bet.

First 20 mins or so going to be vital as Liverpool are going to come at us like an absolute steam train from the first whistle.. if we go behind early we could be in trouble.. if we can weather the inevitable storm and grow into it ourselves then we can cause that defence of theirs some serious ass problems

Yeah don't see us turning them over.. hope that isn't the case tomorrow it can't afford to be and for this reason i reckon Mata drops out for another body in midfield and a 4-3-3.. Rashford Martial and a more advanced Pogba would give us plenty on the break as well as full backs bombing on

Whether Rooney starts or not will have a big impact on how things turn out. Does Mourinho play the occasion and pick arguably his most experienced player and captain?

It's the touch mate.. Liverpool would swamp him he won't have any time on the ball.. personally i would play Blind in front of the defence.. Herrera and Pogba in front of him

This is true. They will be all over him in the middle of the park. But you never know with Mourinho. He may just set up to park the bus in which case Rooney could play a decent defensive role in the middle.

There will be an element of bus parking in that we will have 9 or 10 behind the ball at all times they are in possession but we will need serious pace on the field to get at them on the break.. Rooney just doesn't have it or anything else for that matter any more... even at his peak he was usually dire at Anfield.. now he's dire at any stadium

No.. the penny has dropped.. i said pre season Jose would not continue to pick him just on his name.. should have dropped him earlier but giving him a chance to spark something was fair i guess.. Rooney is now a Europa League man and impact (lol) player at best in the league against any half decent side imo

i do, fairly strongly. Think Liverpool mid is needed though. On reflection, maybe Son out would be better. Sterling's fixtures are still very nice.

Chees mate. Sterling wasn't impressive this week but I might give him another couple of weeks. It's an upgrade to KDB then if he's still not performing if I can make the funds available. Tottenham looked significantly better when Son came on (I don't have Son). I'd keep him imo at least until Kane is back and then reassess the impact Kane would have on Son's output

          Valencia or McAuley out?

Capoue is being sold at the fastest rate per hour -0.90% on FFF, was above -2.00% ph earlier. Already at -20%. Looks like he will drop this week, if you bought at 4.5 a drop means a loss of .1

Austin scored a goal and assist against Mancity, and a goal against Chelsea for qpr. the two teams he face next

Not to forget 2 goals against arsenal.

In form and playing for a better soton side he's more than capable of scoring against bigger teams no ?

There's no such thing as brutally good lol

Caught badly napping defensively. Swansea could well have left 3-3 yesterday for as much as Walcott could have done better Swansea could have too.

Siggy snatched at one and got under it in the box on another day he buries it.

Well the first goal was purely Xhaka's fault and the second one was pretty ridiculous also (the cross got in despite Cazorla doubling). I think it's still worth getting them in.

Not really a draw, Arsenal could've had 5, Walcott himself could've had his 5th, especially after the red.

I think its a very fair point. There could be a completely random penalty taker next time to take the pressure off Aguero

I don't see anything that merits a hit. Is Baines healthy again. If not, perhaps shift him. Or something with subs, but don't know them.

How much of a downgrade is Sanchez/De Bruyne to Mané?

In a way, would you risk you defence being a bit worse (still with good fixtures) in order to have KDB over Mane?

Terrible imo. Mané stats are below all the other Pool mids

KDB always. Def is not reliable. Look at Arse Spurs and Holebas with 15 this week

I have Stones, Williams, Holebas, Amat...all have good fixtures from now on, so that premium defender is not really needed. Another issue is how nailed is Stones?

No worries. The danger is I could be wrong 🙂 I know I said before this week people should hold onto Antonio when some were talking about getting Walcott though said the same for Son

Has Sturridge ever been first? It was Gerrard, Henderson, now Milner.

No it goes agains my general principle of playing these games. I like Lallana if he is fit it will solve the problem but I have to have someone and at least he has penalties. My penalty predictor gives Liverpool a high chance of getting a penalty tomorrow night

A bench will be handy with all this CL rotation. Allen as a 5th mid looks good.
