Few players can compare to Sergio Aguero when it comes to punishing Fantasy Football managers.

So we should not be surprised by today’s 16-point haul – an emphatic message to the doubters who questioned his ability to deliver, amidst speculation on his pitch time and relationship with manager Pep Guardiola.

Aguero’s superb brace at the Hawthorns defied our preconceptions that this was a player low on confidence. His second, a sublime long-range curling effort, was typical of Aguero at his best, providing a chilling warning to those who now progress without him.

I’d personally been burned by a spiteful Aguero in the past – a factor which likely saved me from ejecting him prematurely.

Over the past two Gameweeks, almost 100,000 had decided on such a path – this evening they are left pondering the damage of that trade – not just as a result of today’s return, but also the points that could loom ahead of Manchester City’s obliging run of fixtures.

Middlesbrough are next at the Etihad, an opponent that recently proved stubborn at the Emirates and who earned a second successive clean sheet in today’s win over Bournemouth.

Many will now be praying for resistance from Aitor Karanka’s charges; hoping that City and Aguero are left weary by their midweek Champions League date with Barcelona, or even that Guardiola will risk stirring the pot by resting him from League action.

That seems unlikely.

The 4-0 win over West Brom saw City regain their mojo. The City boss will surely look to maintain momentum, with the League table hinting at the most competitive and open title race in memory.

Typically for a season now renowned for fickle fluctuation, in the space of seven days, things have turned on their heads: ignoring Aguero suddenly looks preposterous.

Certainly, there are no clear alternatives.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic again peppered the Old Trafford goal without reward against Burnley. Troy Deeney and Christian Benteke drew their third successive blanks, while Jermain Defoe lived off scraps and mustered a spot-kick in the defeat to Arsenal – his first goal in four outings.

Sunday will see both Romelu Lukaku and Diego Costa take their turn. Aguero already has a stronger points per match ratio than the latter, he’ll also surpass Lukaku should the Everton man dare to blank.

We await Harry Kane’s return and perhaps Arsene Wenger’s intentions with Olivier Giroud but, in all honesty, by the time they have established pitch time and form, Aguero will surely have taken further strides.

For all the funds we can pour into our midfield, there is currently no tu replacement for Aguero in attack and, with the majority of armbands set to head his way in Gameweek 11, we only risk further punishment by overlooking him.

A truly frightening prospect.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

        Time to refresh your defence

With Spurs and Arsenal facing a few tricky games and budget options like Amat and Collins now seemingly out of the first XI are you looking to refresh your back line.

In addition there are a number of teams with emerging form and fixture defensively that are going unnoticed by many.

Middlesbrough for example have significantly tightened up at the back with Gibson now up to sixth in the FPL total pts table for defenders.

Bournemouth too are proving resilient at home. And in Daniels and Smith pose considerable goal threat. There are now three of the Cherries backline in the FPL total pts table top ten defenders.

Valencia’s arm injury also makes him a player that needs to be moved out.

And finally, take a look at Leicester’s fixtures plus Fuchs’ home form.

The tide looks to be turning in defence…how are you planning to address that?

Out of these I'd really bank only on Fuchs.
Cedric is injured, and Alonso has pretty horrible fixtures. Yes, 3 CS, but against HUL, and 2 teams on the down offensively.

For me I've already tapped into those Bournemouth underlying stats and clean sheet potential with Daniels in.

Holebas too, despite the fixtures, still looks great and another in.

Next up for me Valencia out for Fuchs or Alonso.

Lots of options now in terms of clean sheets and goal threat from defenders.

I probably should have checked stats before I got players in.

Surely now isn't the best time to be getting holebas in though?

Jonty, I hope you don’t mind me asking. I’m looking to replace Walcott with Coutinho but I’m £0.2 short. I have two free transfers so I could afford it by downgrading Valencia to a £5.3-or-less defender (i.e. no Fuchs nor van Dijk). I already have Holebas and A. Smith.

I’d like to have Cédric, but he’s currently injured. Are we sure he’ll be back in the starting 11? At this stage, could Stones be a good alternative? I’d think City will get better and better under Pep. Other options to consider? I’ve Clyne so Lovren is not an option. What about Jagielka?

Alternatively I could downgrade Capoue to Fletcher, get Coutinho in for Walcott and get a £5.7 defender in for Valencia for 4 points. Then I could afford Fuchs. Worth it?

Valencia to a wba def ?

              Fixtures get better soon.

Naughton one to keep an eye on too.

Thanks for the reply! I’ve already got Evans and Foster (would likely bench the latter every week since I also have Heaton but I’ll still keep for a little while). What do you think about Stones? Should have a decent clean sheet potential in gameweeks 11–13 and then I could change him to Cédric when Southampton gets a nice fixture run from gameweek 14. Can’t see Swansea getting many clean sheets, but I know Naughton has some decent attacking stats.

Would also like to save up some cash to get Alonso before Chelsea’s fixtures turn to the better. I think Chelsea will stop conceding goals at some point with Conté in charge. That added with some attacking potential could be gold. Probably in for Clyne in a couple of weeks.

Happy with my main defence currently - Mustafi, Holebas, Lovren.

I think I'm okay with holding Amat for money reasons too.

Baines being out is annoying but my defence has coped. He will likely become Fuchs this week. Mustafi has good fixtures again after Spurs/United and there's nothing to say he won't get a clean sheet in one of those 2 anyway.

The shortage of clean sheets this season has made me go cheap in defence. If the news on Butland is correct then Grant looks good. My defence is currently:

          Heaton, Grant
          Holebas, McAuley, Lovren, Smith, Kingsley

I have gone for attacking defenders due to the lack of clean sheets. I am eyeing up Dann though now he is back and Friend / Gibson.

Last week I took a 20pt hit which included trading Amat, Collins & Robertson for Pieters, Lowton & A. Smith.

These come in to join Morgan & Holebas and as a rotating 5 they look to work pretty well together over the next 10 fixtures.

This is my plan now - to select cheap but decent defenders who rotate well for good chunks of the season. I'll perform a similar refresh of my backline when the 2nd wildcard becomes available.

Definitely need to shore up my defence, with Koné and now Amat stinking it up, and Coleman and Foster not delivering. Coleman to Fuchs would be a priority, and also looking to get Heaton in at some point.

I've currently got Morgan, Evans, Pieters and Francis, I'd love to have Fuchs, Brunt and Smith over Morgan, Evans and Francis but I don't want to sacrifice in midfield, and the clean sheet potential is still the same. Looking at bringing in another 4.5-4.8m defender this week that rotates well with the current crop, best options are looking like a Stoke or West Brom double up with either McCauley or Cameron - again, can't afford Brunt or Shawcross.

Valencia to Fuchs, was going to be Williams to Fuchs but he has a stay of execution.
Fuchs keeps defence spending in the right zone. Very conscious not to over spend in that department

watching this afternoon's games with interest.
Last chance for Williams and checking out Alonso & Courtois.
          Stones back in the reckoning.
Have Smith for Bournemouth home games but away form is nothing.

Problem area is keepers as Foster & Pickford don't rotate anymore. Mannone could be coming back in at Sunderland.
So possibly have to find a single, more expensive keeper to start every game. LLoris, Forster, Courtois, Cech on the list.

I've disposed of Valencia and Williams, and brought in Alonso and Pieters. Form for one, fixtures for the other, and meant I could do Walcott to Coutinho. Hoping to keep away from my defence now.

Both with tricky fixtures and having both of them really lessens the options in my midfield.

Fuchs/Morgan, van Dijk/Cedric, Lovren, Lowton/Mee/Keane are all on my watchlist.

With Bournemouth though, I'm not that convinced. Don't really like their upcoming fixtures.
The next two are great but then it get's tricky: ars, LIV, bur, LEI, SOU, che.

I also have Kos and Walker, but not sure I'd rid of any at this point.
I feel both are fixtures proof, and do not have that bad fixtures (Probably have the 2-3 CS in next 6). Plus, I'd lose lots of money if I ship them, which will unlikely get back.

Got Heaton, Clyne - Cedric - Holebas atm. Will be fine if Cedric gets fit and back in the team.

Went light in defense on my wildcard in GW6, due to apparent lack clean sheets then. And now I am in a very bad shape in that area. My defense currently:

          Pickford, Jakupovic
          Valencia, Jagielka, Holebas, Evans, Amat
          1 FT, £0.1 ITB

Currently thinking of getting a Leicester defender in place of Valencia. And Cedric in place of Jagielka in the next GW. Or maybe will take a hit to get Rose/Mustafi. I will really appreciate it if any of you could give me suggestions 🙂

Addressed in last three gameweeks by bringing in Holebas before his 15 point haul, Fuchs before his goal last week, and Alonso before today's cleanie. Didn't expect such immediate returns.

I think Daley Blind is a very viable option (being the defender with the third highest score) and I am surprised he is not mentioned much. Just got him last week for Amat.
          Also, lovren!

Suprised not to see Azpi mentioned more. I believe he has bonus points in all of Chelsea's clean sheets, even in the high scoring ones. Him or Alonso look really good, I don't think the "tough" fixtures matter too much.

          I've done this:
          Coleman
          Bellerin
          Mcauly
          Keane.W
          Smith
          ---
Burnley are worth a shout out because of Heaton in goal. They have momentum.
          --
Free up funds with a defence:
Bournemouth, Watford, Burnley, middlsborough + maybe one high budget or even a 5 mil
          Thoughts ?

        The Knee Jerk returns.

May not be every week - depending on what Saturday serves up - and this will probably be the earliest I can get it done and published.

Stock Check, with the Watchlist updated, planned for the morning.

Updated? The rollout will allow for full desktop mode and introduce the widgets in a slide in menu bar - it won't speed up comments.

What's the issue with posting comments on mobile?

Issue is, not always but 80% of the time it can take minutes, sometimes 5+, to reload after posting a comment. Leads me to miss conversations and generally has led me to give ffs a miss. Not too bad today, not fast though. I've tried on different connections and a couple of devices with no joy so has to be the site?

This site had a lot of negativity about Aguero. The guy is an out and out goal scorer who form dipped but he is so explosive it is sheer madness to get rid of him especially given City's upcoming fixtures

Disagree, £13m still looks lovely when spread out over the whole team.

I don't dispute he is the best player in the game.

Just dispute that £13m is good VFM for the returns on offer.

Lads, can today's upturn in City's form attributed partially to Gundogan's advanced role (members can check the pitch map)?

If yes, do you think Pep will keep the same formation in next matches and hence, Snoddy -> Gundogan is a decent enough transfer (4th mid)?

What's your thoughts on this mini wildcard for a minus four?
        Cech to Heaton
        Valencia to Alonso
        Walcott to Coutinho

        Heaton. Pickford
        Alonso. Evans. Holebas. Smith. Amat.
        Sterling. Coutinho. Firmino. Sanchez. Capoue.
        Aguero. Deeney. Benteke
