This article aims to find out the best Fantasy Premier League captaincy option for the forthcoming Gameweek by combining bookies odds with form and fixture.
In each of the previous five Gameweeks this method has proved successful, with Eden Hazards’ brace and an assist earning those who backed him with the armband a huge 38 point haul last time out.
Before I take a look at Gameweek 12’s best captaincy targets let’s have a quick recap on how I use odds, form and fixtures to come to achieve this.

REFINING THE ODDS

For this method, I take six popular captaincy options, according to the FFScout captaincy poll and rank them 1-6 according to their likelihood to score according to the bookies. I then give the same 1-6 ranking according to the difficulty of the fixture, which is worked out using goals conceded, big chances conceded and shots in the box (SiB) conceded from the last four games.

I then apply the same ranking to form, looking at points per game, goals and assists over the last four games.

I understand that the odds segment can sometimes heavily outweigh others (e.g. Aguero is always likely to be low odds for scoring) so I have added a fixtures and form combined only element that could be used separately if you so wished.

With that in mind let’s take a look at Gameweek 12’s results.

ODDS

ANALYSIS

Taking odds, fixture and form into account, Romelu Lukaku is the most likely to deliver attacking returns this Gameweek according to this method, with Jermain Defoe, Eden Hazard and Sergio Aguero all close behind.
Everton entertain a Swansea side who have conceded nine times in the last four, conceded the most big chances (10) in that same time period. The statistics haven’t been looking too good for the South Wales team in recent weeks.
Eden Hazard sits at the summit of the ‘total rank without odds factored in’ segment. He represents a classic form vs fixture debate this Gameweek, where the Belgium comes up against one of the league’s most in-form defensive teams in Middlesborough.  A fantastic 12.25 PPG vs only two goals conceded in the last four and an impressively low  seven big chances in the same time period, gives would be FPL managers looking at him for the armband, much food for thought.
Those looking for a differential, may well look towards Jermain Defoe for the armband. Sunderland host a Hull side who have conceded 10 goals in the last four and have conceded the most (46) attempts in the box in that same time period.
Any indications of Swansea and Hulls’ attacking intent (or lack of) in their respective away games this weekend could persuade the direction of the armband for FPL managers this GW.

    Well that settles that then.

    Lukaku (c) it is.

Was just wondering though if Aguero's most recent post Pep talking to form was taken into account rather than last 4 GWKS whether he would be higher up.

With both likely to start if you haven't already made that move I'd leave it. The time to do it was ahead of Hazard's double rise. I'd leeave it another two gwks now - esp with Sanchez facing BOU

          Hi Jonty,

Trying my luck to elicit some response from you.

I have Lallana, Sanchez, Gundagon, Allen and Coutinho.

Would it be wise to lose Lallana for Hazard. I would have to also downgrade Koscielny to a 4.3 defender then.

          Thanks.

I wouldn't be looking to downgrade Kosc ahead of a good three game run post MAnU.

I also think that if you missed the Hazard price rises this week then leave him for another week or so. Swap Lallana for someone else or downgrade another player.

On the scoutcast both Mark and I discussed why we swapped Sanchez to Haz as that worked for us in terms of keeping a good rest of the team.

Thanks. I'll be catching up on the scoutcast tomorrow.

I have exact cash to do Lallana + Clyne >> Firmino + Mcauley

              Makes sense?

Basing it on the PPG of the last 2 GW:
      Hazard 16.5
      AGUERO 11
      Coutinho 9.5
      Defoe 9.5
      Sanchez 7.5
      LUKAKU 7

The last 2 GWs doesn't represent a fair reflection in my opinion, having said that - Hazard still tops the PPG charts over the last 4 with 12.25. Bare in mind Form is just one of the variables in this method.

Still Aguero for me. Palace will Attack and leave space. Plus Aguero is better away from home and Palace don't do clean sheets!

    b) Deeney and Capoue ---> Defoe and 4.4 mid (-4)

It's a decent punt. You'd have to expect a reaction to the 5-0 Chelsea defeat and Swansea are in a bit of a state at the mo.

i fear lukaku as swansea at home is the drought busting fixture, see bony for example. it also terrifies me that rooney looked like messi against them last time out.

saying that aguero has the 2nd best fixture. top striker + 2nd best fixture. sold

I've had it on kun all week but imo lukaku is the safe option as he will almost surely deliver points and is 100% certain to start, while there is a slim chance kun doesn't start

No worries.. the reason i see it as too risky is you would be relying on him outscoring not only Kun but Lukaku too.. if he was up against one of them then i would be a lot more likely to make that call..

I had Bellerin & Coutinho... sold Bellerin now

Coutinho & Firmino apparently only got back Wednesday night, and Klopp said on Friday he hadn't even seen them yet, with the game in 24 hours I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Klopp roll out with:

      Sturridge
Mane, Wijnaldum, Firmino (I think he'll play, having not played in internationals)
      Can, Henderson

Meaning Coutinho possibly rested or at least benched. Obviously I'm making an educated guess here.

      No idea on Costa.

      Pretty sure Lallana is out.

Hey YMA, a suggestion for this one.

Maybe it is more beneficial to look at the odds for '2 goals or more' since that is effectively what we want from our captain.

I don't presume this would change it too much but I think it would perfect the method.

Please let me know your thoughts.

So you know that changes the order to:

      Defoe
      Sanchez
      Hazard
      Coutinho

I just don't have It in me to go against Kun (C)
One thing this great article doesn't factor is ownership
Ownership is relative to a certain extent as 1. Differential 2. If a captaincy option with high ownership performs and you don't pick him then your OR suffers even more...
    Just a thought
