Scout Picks

After naming the players under consideration in our Scout Squad article earlier this week, we reveal those to make the cut for our Gameweek 12 Scout Picks.

With the bulk of our 84 million budget reserved for attacking output, we have sought value between the sticks and once again turned to Stoke’s Lee Grant, who faces Bournemouth at the bet365 stadium.

Even though regular Potters keeper Jack Butland is back in training, his 4.1 priced deputy will be the custodian in Gameweek 12, before soon coming under threat for the number one jersey.

With the Cherries languishing among the bottom six sides for away goal attempts, we anticipate Grant could justify his Scout Picks spot with another clean sheet.

Goal threat dominates our defender selections.

With a goal in Gameweek 11 against Everton and as part of a Chelsea rearguard that has kept five clean sheets in a row, Marcos Alonso (6.0) has more than earned a place in the Scout Picks. The 3.5% owned wing-back travels to a Middlesbrough side that has scored just ten times to date.

FPL’s fourth highest owned defender Gareth McAuley (4.7) is among an elite group of six defenders who have claimed two goals. The West Brom defender hosts a Burnley outfit that boasts the lowest number of away goal attempts, with just a single goal on the road all season.

We had the funds to shop for Kyle Walker ahead of Spurs’ derby meeting with West Ham on Saturday evening but opt for his cheaper team-mate Danny Rose (5.9), who we believe offers greater scoring potential.

Owned by just 5.8%, the left-back tops the goal attempt table for defenders over the last four Gameweeks and has created more chances than Walker over the same period.

Declared fit earlier today after suffering a midweek knock with Belgium, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard (10.1) takes centre stage in our midfield selection. The 28.6% owned schemer has amassed a peerless 49 points over the last four Gameweeks. It’s a brave FPL manager who progresses without him at this point and we feel he will sparkle again at the Riverside on Sunday.

Injury doubts in Liverpool’s midfield have propelled Roberto Firmino (8.7) into our thinking for the Reds’ visit to Southampton. With attacking points in his last three league away trips and returns in four of five outings, the 15.9% owned ‘false 9’ should provide ample cover of Jurgen Klopp’s vibrant attack.

Hull City start a kind four fixture run with a trip to Sunderland on Saturday, presenting Robert Snodgrass (5.5) with a chance to cement a place in our Scout Picks over the coming month.

With designated spot-kick taker Abel Hernandez absent through injury, the 3.9% owned Scotland midfielder adds penalties to his armoury as he look to improve a tally of four goals so far.

We had hoped to include Kevin De Bruyne ahead of Manchester City’s visit to Crystal Palace. Sadly, his 10.8 price tag proved too much, driving us to turn to cover Spurs’ attacking prospects at home to West Ham.

The 4.7% owned Christian Eriksen (8.1) may just provide a worthy alternative. Over the last four Gameweeks, no player has registered more goal attempts without scoring.

Our forward trio has been in place for much of the week and was never likely to budge.

Form, fixture and top ranking in our Captain Poll have combined to ensure that the 46.6% owned Sergio Aguero (13.2) takes pride of place among our striker selection.

The Argentine was largely rested while on international duty and visits Selhurst Park with a stellar away record. He has scored three braces this season on his travels, while Crystal Palace have conceded eight times in front of their home fans and are without a shut-out all season.

Romelu Lukaku (9.9) is another that demanded selection.

The Everton striker, who is owned by just over a third of FPL managers, has scored in all but one of his league appearances at Goodison Park and hosts a Swansea City side that have allowed nine goals in four matches under Bob Bradley.

Our final place is handed to 15.3% owned Jermain Defoe (7.4), who goes in search of a seventh league goal and 150th Premier League strike. The Sunderland forward hosts a Hull City side that have conceded 13 goals on their travels already.

We turn to the Toffees for our first two bench places, with 4.6% owned Seamus Coleman (5.5) claiming his berth. Even if the Everton defence is breached, the raiding right-back offers attacking prospects against the porous Swans backline.

Yannick Bolasie (6.1) offers a cheap route into the Everton attack for Swansea’s visit. The 6.4% owned Congolese winger has delivered attacking returns in three of the last four Gameweeks.

With doubts surrounding the fitness of West Brom’s Nacer Chadli, who underwent minor surgery during the international break, we’ve opted for 4.5% owned Baggies striker Solomon Rondon (6.5). Burnley have conceded nine goals in their last four away encounters ahead of Monday’s visit to the Hawthorns.

The Community Champion

The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season. The current champion to beat is VS10_, who had a 32-point margin of victory over us in Gameweek 6.

This week’s champion is Ziro who has opted for a 3-5-2 formation of: Foster; Brunt, Coleman, Cedric; Philips, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Ozil, Mane; Kane, Aguero.

    Best option:

    a) Lallana > Mané

    b) Lallana > Pedro

    c) Lallana + Koscielny > Hazard + Rose (-4)

Same dilemma. I have currently gone with Allen. Looking at the posts below I now have my doubts. My thoughts are that Austin will have success with a consolation goal against Liverpool. It's then hit and miss as to whether Redmond grabs an assist.

He's spot on.. i didn't take that as a dig at Wenger at all rather the media campaign against him and suggestions that he is washed up and finished despite winning the title only 18 months ago.. managers endure tough periods even the very best.. a lot of people have very short memories if you ask me

It has something to do with the fact he's been dangerously bad with Chelsea last season, then 2 other managers took over the same team and are now back on the top again. He then went on to spend a 'billion' on new players and still hasn't done well enough, he has the most expensive team in the league with the most expensive player in the World and goes to away matches with a gameplan of getting a point, failing to get a good result in the last 18 months, which actually is a very long period. Of course the critics start doubting his qualities after all this time despite his success before, but Wenger has critics too and they're often louder than Mourinho's. In terms of respect he'll never really get any as long as he's acting the way he's always been.

Like i said he went through an awful time at Chelsea towards the end that isn't in question but why is it being thrown in his face day in day out? Jurgen Klopp spent much of his last season with Dortmund in the relegation zone and ended up finishing 7th in a two horse race but this is scrubbed from existence why? because he has a nice smile and the media enjoy pulling him off in press conferences.. Klopp hasn't won a pick of silverware since that season btw.. This isn't a go at Klopp either i have a lot of respect for him..

Mourinho has spent an obscene amount of money sure but City spent more in the summer although again not reported.. hundreds of millions were spent across the big teams in England so they get stronger too.. Mourinho is seeking to improve the fortunes of a club that has been nowhere in the last 3 years too is worth remembering.. finishes of 7th 4th and 5th so surely even the most naive of football fans wouldn't expect him to arrive at OId Trafford and wave a magic wand..

He will look to get results any way he sees fit.. what was he meant to do at Anfield? let them press us into submission and run over the top of us like every other team has been there.. don't think so.. free flowing attacking football is all well and good but not nearly enough credit given to the defensive side of the game and the top managers have that in their locker...

I wouldn't be in the best of moods either if i was him to be fair.. i guess its a vicious circle the media keep on his back over every word and move and result and he remains the same in press conferences.. the only thing he can do is silence them on the pitch and i'll back him to do just that..

Several good points, but I imagine the opinion of the media and the public would've been much less negative, had he been closer to being a gentleman. 🙂

To be fair, this is quoted out of context.

He was referring to respect. And how Wenger gets it whereas he (Mourinho) doesn't.

I guess you have to give respect to get respect.

If people are really so worried about Aguero they could at least take 10 minutes and read these articles.

    https://www.mancity.com/news/first-team/2016/11/17/crystal-palace-v-man-city-team-news-stats-and-tv/1479126421538
Sergio Aguero played just one half of football in the international break - which City fans might regard as good news looking at life through a Club lens. Will Aguero take the opportunity to make Palace pay? That's just one of our pre-match talking points.

    https://www.mancity.com/news/first-team/2016/11/17/crystal-palace-v-man-city-talking-points/1479379487591
Where better to take any frustrations out on the pitch – and Crystal Palace could be the perfect place to show his national team boss what he’s been missing?

More from Pep, this time on how quickly he will use his international stars: "As quick as possible involved again in our reality. They need time. They are human beings. Today the schedule is so stressful for the players. It is so demanding. 11 months and after two or three weeks off and after 11 months again and you cannot lose or play bad. That is why you have to handle that sometimes when you are see they are down to take them up and then every player is different to the other ones. Some when they come back from the national team their regeneration is quicker than the other ones, for the physical condition, for many many things. I am still getting to know my players, how they react after that situation. But it is important they come back good. We have a game and a final in Germany in three or four days and after three days later we have Burnley so everyone is going to play."

How an Aguero playing 45 minutes over an international break could create any cause for concern is beyond me.

I can understand picking Lukaku or even a differential like Kane instead of him, but it would hopefully come from confidence in the other picks rather than fears about Aguero.

Any advise? Still have 2 FTs, 0.3 ITB

    Heaton • Jakupovic
    Stones • McAuley • Amat • A.Smith • Holebas
    Alexis • Walcott • Firmino • Coutinho • Capoue
    Kun • Lukaku (c) • Austin

Planning at this moment A.Smith to Evans, then can afford Lukaku and Capoue => Anichebe and Hazard for free next week

      Sounds like a decent plan.

Anichebe seems like a waste of a transfer.

Actually he is just a tool to get Hazard, no more. Planning him as a 3rd bench fodder

    Sanchez , Coutinho , Diego Costa > Hazard , Firmino Lukaku ?

      For -8? No

        Any suggestions ?

Should i leave Costa ? Have a feeling Lukaku is gonna destroy Swans defense . Sanchez is not 100% , Hazards seems like a must have right now .

Leave Costa for now. He easily matches Hazards points recently. Not for a hit at least. However do not know your other squad for further suggestions

            Foster
            Koscielny,Walker,Pieters
            Allen,Capoue,Gundogan
            Aguero , Vokes
            + those above

I'd downgrade one of Walker/Kos as MF is too weak. And Vokes in the end...

Had some interesting answers last time I posted this, I'll try one time more:

Captain Pick: Lukaku vs Agüero Had the armband on Lukaku for 2 weeks as they're at home and Swansea are a mess, but in worst case scenario I could see the match somehow end 0-0, cannot see that happening with City + Kun seems to score goals away this season. Thoughts?

Be closer to 6-0 than 0-0 mate.

here is my thought, captain who you think will score the most

Hmm, got 2 FT, no Chelsea Mid/striker and Alexis and Coutinho.

Do I do Cout to Firmino to be on the safe side?

Even if it causes some hits, at least a Coutinho benching or no show mixes things up a bit since his ownership is so massive.

Who is your replacement for Coutinho if he doesn't feature? Did it cost a hit?

    Anichebe, -4 for me
