Our final article reviewing the updated Watchlist rankings, having assessed the changes among the goalkeepers, defenders and midfield over the past week, takes a look at the recent rise and falls up front.

For those new to the site, the Watchlist is designed to offer a view on our current mid-term player recommendations, based on the prospects spanning the next four-to-six Gameweeks.

You will find our current Watchlist standings in your right-hand menu on desktop and mobile.

The big news among the forwards sees the return of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane to the reckoning.

Given he’s owned by just 5.6% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bosses, Kane has the potential to shake things up, having scored 25 and 21 goals in his previous two campaigns.

Spurs face four potentially profitable home fixtures (WHM, SWA, HUL, BUR) in the next six, though two tough away trips to Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, along with the fact he may take some time to build up his match sharpness, leads to him achieve a mid-table position in our rankings for now.

There’s no change at the top, with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero announcing a return to form with three goals and an assist in his last two outings.

While Chelsea’s Diego Costa has been more consistent than the Argentine and is kinder on the budget, the fact that he remains on the Suspension Tightrope, plus he’s competing with the Eden Hazard option in our squads, limits his ability to topple Aguero.

We remain faithful to Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, with the blank against Chelsea almost understandable given the Blues’ current run of clean sheets.

However, the Belgian does face a tough run of fixtures from Gameweek 13 onwards that will test his consistency. While he’s demonstrated the ability to maintain a high scoring rate, he is perhaps the most vulnerable of the heavy-hitting forwards given the turn in Everton’s fixtures and the clamour to fund further investment in midfield.

Elsewhere, Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe and Southampton’s Charlie Austin remain our preferred mid-price choices.

Despite all of Sunderland’s travails, Defoe has continued to deliver and has been involved in 77% of the Black Cats’ goals.

While Dusan Tadic, Nathan Redmond and Sofiane Boufal may rival Austins’ role in Southampton’s front three, there’s little doubt that the former QPR man is the Saints’ most natural goalscorer.

His predatory instincts mean he’s unlikely to be usurped by Boufal’s eventual installation into the starting XI, and should he score against Liverpool tomorrow, he’d be in line for another climb in our rankings ahead of some improving fixtures.

Another mid-price option on the rise is West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon. He enjoys four strong fixtures (BUR, hul, WAT, SWA) in the next five to rival both Defoe and Austin, although the fact he has surrendered spot-kick duties to Nacer Chadlis does slightly limit his appeal. Rondon may well be on penalties on Monday night against Burnley should Chadli miss out through injury.

A new face towards the bottom of our standings is Burnley’s Sam Vokes, who looks a viable option for those Fantasy managers who are considering opting for a 3-5-2, but with an active option in attack.

Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic is, almost inevitably, the major faller on the Watchlist. He slips to the lower reaches given he’s suspended for tomorrow’s clash against Arsenal.

With the dominance of the names at the top, and the current trend towards considering a two-man attack, the Swede seems unlikely to recover too much ground upon his return over the coming weeks.

    1FT, 2.1 ITB

    Heaton Pickford
Walker McCauley Holebas (suspended) Smith (suspended) Amat
Sanchez Coutinho (doubt) Gundogan Allen Capoue
    Aguerro Costa (doubt) Lukaku

Atm, I have probably 2 playing defenders so should I do:
    A) Amat -> Alonso
    B) Capoue -> ? or and play AOA
    C) Keep Capoue and play AOA and save transfer
    D) ?

          Alonso Clyne Walker.(Macauley Francis)

Just learned that WBA are on MNF so I may well do Clyne > Mcauley so I have a player in it...

Yeah, of course they do. They're just a bit kak to watch though sometimes. Or put it another way....I'd sooner watch Clyne playing for Liverpool than Mcauley playing for WBA....even of that means I end up throwing my shoe at the telly again.

Being as he's on MNF though I might switch.

Been looking at games going forward a few GW's after this week. I don't doubt the qualities of Austin and Aguero (obviously) and a few other picks but I just can't bring myself to lose any of Costa Lukaku or Benteke....regardless of pts....or not pts.

I suppose that's some sort of FPL bliss.

A positive move however your structure is skewed for mine. Kane is just one game and one lucky penalty back from a long absence. Wait 'till he finds form.

Can you evolve Redmond, Snodgrass and Fletcher into De Roon and two better mids by downgrading Brunt and Collins.

You don't want to keep Amat on a WC.

          1. NIGHTHIKER - I Kane, I Shaw…
            • 12 Years

Amat & Fletcher -> Kingsley & de Roon for a start. Kane could be a great differential if he fires, especially against a defensively weak West Ham side. I'd be looking at maybe trying to get another Liverpool midfielder in there somehow, Firmino perhaps, but as Southampton away is a difficult trip that doesn't need to happen immediately. Also maybe try and get some Arsenal coverage for Bournemouth at home.

    Hey all,

I acknowledge this won't be overly popular but here it goes.

I don't get a chance to get on here too often but I love the site and was a member last year. Whenever I ask for feedback I always make sure that I give at least three to one on the other side however to be honest I know very little so am always very qualified.

Can I respectfully suggest that everyone link their history to their names. I know some of you think that this is a risk to your ML games however that is just pathetic, particularly at this early stage of the season. It is clearly evident that cliques exist in this forum and don't get me wrong - I'm not naive enough to realize that this will eliminate them.

My intent is purely to enhance the quality of experience that "casual" posters have on this site.

    Heaton
    Clyne, Evans
Sanchez, Hazard, Mane, Redmond, De Roon
    Aguero, Lukaku, Wilson

Robison, B. Smith, A. Smith*, Holebas*

2 suspended defenders and B. Smith unlikely to get any minutes. AOA and save FT is what I'm currently thinking, sensible? Then I'll probably get Coutinho next week and upgrade 1 of the defenders to Alonso for free.

Wilson is a big doubt so AOA is a no-no

But I have a FT so I could replace A. Smith for free.

    Heaton (Robinson)

    Pieters, Fuchs, Kone (Smith, Amat)

    Hazard, Walcott, Coutinho, Firmino (Capoue)

    Aguero, Costa, Austin

    1.2 itb

Given doubts over Walcott and Coutinho would you consider a -4 or take the risk and worst case scenario field 10 with Capoue coming in as only playable sub ?

The -4 would be to upgrade Smith

Yeah think so Jaks! Looking good. Happy to see a fellow Siggy owner.
Btw would you gamble on Wilson and play him, or get Austin for a Ft?

Haha got me 10 points already so glad with him, although an Arsenal middfielder is tempting.... I would get Austin though, Wilson might not play and is also not on pens anymore this season.

      Looks good.

Bench Lukaku and play Holebas for a nice Monday green arrow though. 😉

Sterling and Wilson out for Hazard and Anichebe? (-4)

Gives me a front seven of
    Allen, Coutinho, Firmino, Hazard, Sanchez
    Aguero and Austin

    With Anichebe as back up

Lallana to Sterling is a good move? - Got Coutinho, A. Smith and Holebas aswell, so my bench is stretched.

Not sure if sterling is nailed as he didn't play the last game

Sterling probably gonna go down to 8.0M tonight so if you gonna do the swap do it after the price change.

Lallana and Coutinho owners. What are we doing?

I was looking at taking a hit to move fletcher to Snodgrass then play AOA next week. Gives me more strength over the Xmas period too. Thoughts?

Fletch will be kind of fun though, you know, for that goal a season.

Pickford or Heaton for this GW?

Is De Roon now a regular?
