An emphatic display by West Brom urges Fantasy managers re-assess the potential of a pair of their attacking assets while basking in the comfort of a belated clean sheet. Here’s the Stock Check following Gameweek 12’s concluding fixture…

Matt Phillips
Fantasy managers started the evening lamenting the absence of Nacer Chadli through injury but, on the evidence of recent performances, Phillip’s could well supersede him as the key target in the West Brom midfield.

His goal and assist returns this evening earned him back-to-back double figure returns and took him to two goals and four assists in his last seven Premier League starts.

Priced at 5.1 to Chadli’s 6.4, the former QPR winger looks to have the advantage as a fourth/fifth midfield option. Indeed, even when fit, Chadli’s starting role now looks to be a puzzle given West Brom’s current form.

Salomon Rondon
The Venezuelan has produced a string of impressive performances without returns as the Baggies’ lone striker but, tonight’s goal and assist brought his drought to an end.

Priced at 6.5, the Baggies frontman looks an option in this form, although on Chadli’s return, he will likely relinquish spot-kick duties which dents his appeal – along with the potential offered by Phillips.

Nonetheless, with Hull City, Watford and Swansea City in his next four Gameweeks, Rondon may tempt some short-term investors seeking a differential.

The West Brom Defence
With a combined ownership of 50%, many FPL managers benefited from a first Baggies clean sheet since Gameweek 3.

That’s a surprising statistic given the emphasis on defence by Tony Pulis. Sitting back and allowing Burnley to come onto them, tonight’s approach was typical of a West Brom side who prioritise defensive stability.

Gareth McAuley remains our weapon of choice – a menacing presence at set-pieces that warrants the extra outlay for the aforementioned fixtures. But Chris Brunt demands to be monitored and, once we can be sure of his prolonged starting role, he arguably presents even greater potential for attacking returns.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

yep like it barring any injuries or anything.

At some point i'd want a new goalie instead of jaku but as long as Pickford is playing its not urgent

You need to lock in a sure starter with the Xmas period coming up and Stones is banker to be rotated. Maybe a McAuley or one of the WBA defenders. Brunt is prob the best attacking choice from them but I'm interested to see what happens Brunt when Chadli comes back into the team

As long as he'll plays, and some rounds get save points, and even cs, he's everything you want from a 4m imo.

Im not looking to replace him, unless he stops starting games

Any bournemouth fans here? Would be interested to hear whats going on with Max Gradel?

iHe's about to drop to 5m so if he was to get back in the starting line up he'd be a good option

Not a Bournemouth fan, but have watched all their games and follow them closely.

We can clearly see a distinct shift to a 4-3-3, with a pacey front three, as opposed to the 4-4-2 Howe adopted last season.

Although Gradel would fit the wide positions in this system well, Stanislas and Josh King have been in good form this season in wide positions. There is also their record signing, Ibe, who although he has recently fallen down the pecking order is still ahead of Gradel.

Also, consider AFCON, which he will likely depart for in January, despite his lack of game time (he did come off the bench in Ivory Coast's most recent friendlies)

For these reasons, I do not feel Gradel is a viable option at this moment.

completely agree not an option at the moment. Really rate him as a player and was kinda thinking if he could get his way back in at some point he'd be a good option but from what you've said it doesn't look likely. I also had forgotten about AFCON which is a very good point.

Cheers for the insight, really useful

So it turns out that Gerrard has turned down MK Dons. Does he think he's too good and too well qualified for them?!

    1. The Left Duke #3
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 8 months ago

He's dead right to turn it down. He just go under someone like Benitez or even BR and get some experience. Going straight from player to manager isn't all that easy

well if that's the reasoning behind it then it sound reasonable. Just hope he's not holding out for a PL management job right off the bat. Working as a coach first is essential imo

Why does a home ground have such an advantage for a team?

I went Heaton over Pickford which lost me 7 points. It's clear I should have played Pickford at home.

Is it the crowd, the players know the ground, or they feel comfortable there?
How does the home ground effect our fantasy decisions?

It's a bit of everything you've mentioned plus the away team is usually traveling a fair distance and staying in hotels whilst the home team gets to stay in their own routine.

In a pickle here guys and would love some help. I'm in the process of changing up my team a fair bit. I'm going to ditch Kun, bring in Kane which will allow me to bring KDB into the midfield.

I also want some Arsenal coverage over the next two months so I need to know whether you guys think Wally, Ozil or Sanchez is the best option. All are viable with some slight re-shuffling. Unfortunately to bring in Sanchez it will cost me Coutinho or Firmino (two players I've grown very fond of this season). Walcott would be a straight swap for Shaqiri. Ozil is doable without losing Coutinho but the defence will take a hit.

What do you guys think? Would love some help.
