Liverpool have this evening confirmed that Philippe Coutinho is expected to be sidelined for “between five and a few weeks” weeks with the ankle injury sustained against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

The rather confused prognosis arrives via a Jurgen Klopp interview on a Radio 5 live interview prior to tonight’s EFL Cup tie with Leeds United.

However, the article from the clubs states that Coutinho is set to be absent until the New Year. In all likelihood, the Brazilian will be targeting a return against Manchester United on January 14, which arrives in Gameweek 21.

The Brazilian headed into Gameweek 13 as the most popular player in Fantasy Premier League but has already been subject to significant sales – over 380,000 have already parted company since the weekend deadline, with Coutinho’s price slipping from 8.8 to 8.6.

Although there’s no doubt that Coutinho’s absence is a bitter blow to the Merseysiders and Fantasy managers alike, with clashes against Bournemouth, West Ham, Middlesbrough, Everton and Stoke in the next five fixtures, the schedule is still very much in favour of Klopp’s side.

Those kind upcoming matches may well now see Roberto Firmino emerge as the Liverpool weapon of choice – providing he shrugs off a minor calf complaint. He was unable to figure in tonight’s cup tie.

Firmino has the slight edge on his team-mate for points per match (6.1 to 6.0), whilst Sadio Mane’s 5.8 points per appearance could also persuade those keen to reinvest in the Anfield outfit. Mane does start against Leeds United.

It’s fair to say that the FPL transfer market is set to intensify, with the likes of Theo Walcott, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Pedro all building momentum in the mid-price bracket.

Similarly, Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen has also thrown his hat into the ring ahead of home encounters against Swansea, Hull and Burnley in the next four.

Those yet to acquire Eden Hazard may now feel the time is right, with the schedule smiling very kindly on Chelsea once this week’s trip to Man City has passed.

Elsewhere in London, Alexis Sanchez served a timely reminder that you get what you pay for with a brace against Bournemouth and is now just one point behind Hazard at the top of the FPL standings.

Walcott’s second-half strike also keeps him in contention. Now up to fifth in the midfield rankings, he’s produced 5.9 points per match to Sanchez’ 6.7 yet is 3.4 cheaper on the budget ahead of a trip to West Ham.

So he was MOTM against Man U st the weekend. What are the chances of Randolph keeping his spot in goal for West Ham long term?

Reasonable but probably only one really bad performance away from Adrian being put back in

I'm under the impression its his spot to lose, he also had a remarkable performance for Ireland in Austria when they won 1-0 which led Bilic to start him IMO

They also had Spurs on the brink of a defeat so I imagine hes nailed for the time being

Bringing him in on my WC

That's tough, Burnley less offensively effective than Watford but kind of negated by Stoke being less defensively effective than West Brom. Proper flip a coin scenario but I'd probably go with Grant.

You did the right thing. Actually not doing it woud have been a mistake. You lost 1 great player but got in 5 others. Each of those 5 players exept Alonso can get a 10+ points in a single GW. They all have the form and the fixtures on their side. This is also the players you woud have brought in during the next few GW so by taking a -12p hit now you actually save up transfers for the future and you get the price raises.

Not so much him as it is Hull offering very little going forward. They've barely been in Newcastle's box and it's hard to see him getting goals or assists points regularly, even if he is on pens.

      I like it 🙂

I could have gone for a straight swap from Cout -> Firm, but I opted for Siggy + extra cash to upgrade Lukaku to Kane.

I don't rate Pool mids that highly for the foreseeable future with everything that is going on, but I could be wrong 🙂

  15. Worzel Gummidge

    1) Walcott + 0.5M
    2) Siggy + 1.1M
    3) Eriksen + 0.3M
    4) Alli + 0.3M

Have Sanch and no other players from those teams. Maybe I should stop my doubts over 2 but please for far inferior team but is on pens and set pieces. I think 1 is rotation risk personally and not are on the output of 3/4.

    What say thee?

    1. Licious Lizard
      • 13 Years
      9 years, 8 months ago

I agree - go with Siggy. Tough game this week, but has been doing great against big teams. Goals against Everton, Arsenal go Chelsea + assists against both Manchester clubs. Long term fixtures are excellent, nailed, huge involvement in team goals.

Walcott is a rotation risk, I also believe + his stats aren't matching his returns of the season.

You could opt for one of the Tottenham boys with their short term fixtures, but form, rotation risk, long term fixtures all points towards Siggy.

Siggy. He'll be hogging all the points for his team; overlooking the fact his team is cack, Swansea will be scoring with those fixtures. Sure, the others have kind matches ahead as well, and will certainly be scoring, but Sánchez and Kane will be running the show for those teams, leaving the rest battling for the scraps, and that'll be less than what Siggy will produce.

Besides, more money in the bank to do stuff where and when needed.

    I'm done with City...

A lot of guys selling Kun and I was one of them last week. I sold a week earlier than planned due to Pep and his feeding of useless info. Had planned Lukaku out for Ibra(c). Just knew Lukaku would offer nothing vs Soton and I was proved right. 11 points lost out on holding Kun but at least Ibra produced as a skipper.

Anyway what I'm getting at here is I no longer have any trust in City. Pep lies through his teeth and rotates like a mad man. I fully expect to see massive changes over the next month now Yaya is back in the frame in midfield. Even without Kompany we have Stones left out of squads and Kolarov at centre half.

The only City player left is the mighty Kun but I've ditched. I can't handle any more of this Pep confusion. Without returns from Kun of Henry-like proportions I just don't think its worth it. He needs to be streets ahead of the rest to justify his price but we've not seen it yet and didn't see it last season.

I'm going Ibra, Kane and Hazard as my big dollar players for the Xmas period who all have a degree of nailed ness and OK fixtures. If Ibra struggles it's a simple switch to Costa.

    Pep? Pah!

Fair play to you! 51 was OK but 62 would've been better!

Bagged 50 points on Saturday 😎 Yeah it was an average GW for me. Would've been worse without Kun.

I would have bagged an extra 30 points if I wasn't a drunken ch00b Friday night.

Chance of Gun starting this week? I am more than happy to lose another 0.1 to make it 0.2 and wait to do Siggy after this GW.

Every chance imo. I reckon Yaya only gets a look in around CL games

I'm giving it a week. Need to pull some money out from defence as I only have 1.0m ITB.

OMG, Mane can't even score against Leeds at home. Someone send him to the AFCON already.
