Henrikh Mkhitaryan is ruled out of United’s trip to Palace with a short-term ankle problem. Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi is sidelined due to a hamstring injury, whilst Emre Can is still doubtful for Liverpool’s trip to the Riverside.

Shkodran Mustafi is out for three weeks with the hamstring problem that forced him off during Arsenal’s weekend win over Stoke. Aaron Ramsey remains sidelined with a similar complaint for this evening’s trip to Everton.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is ruled out of United’s trip to Palace with an ankle problem, though Jose Mourinho expects the Armenian international’s absence to be short term. Antonio Valencia is suspended after falling off the Suspension Tightrope with his fifth yellow of the season against Spurs.

Emre Can remains a doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Middlesbrough, though is expected to return in time for next week’s Merseyside derby with Everton at the latest. Jurgen Klopp remains uncertain as to whether Dejan Lovren is available, after the defender was forced off with cramp against West Ham on Sunday.

Junior Stanislas and Andrew Surman will remain unavailable for Bournemouth’s clash with Leicester, Eddie Howe conceded yesterday.

Craig Dawson is suspended for West Brom’s home clash with Swansea after earning a fifth caution of the season during Sunday’s loss at Chelsea.

Marc Muniesa and Glen Johnson are rated as slight doubts for Stoke’s clash with Southampton. Jon Walters and Ryan Shawcross are back in training, with the former more likely to be available.

Charlie Austin is set to stay on the sidelines for around three-to-four months with shoulder ligament damage sustained on Europa League duties last Thursday.

Younes Kaboul is back in training and will be assessed ahead of Watford’s trip to Man City. Valon Behrami is a slight doubt due to illness, though Roberto Pereyra is available, having served a one-match suspension.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this evening’s deadline. G2G? Made the call to have Defoe on the bench, very unsure about it...

    Foster
    Azpilicueta / Koscielny / McAuley / Cedric
    Hazard / Walcott / Firmino / Siggy
    Costa / Kane

    Pickford / Defoe / Amat / Capoue

    Slimani a good call?
Thinking of Austin --> Slimani and Vokes --> Anichebe
    (-4 hit)

    My team would be:

    -----------------------Karius------------------------

    -----------McAuley--Walker--Alonso------------

    Firmino--Sanchez--Lanzini--Eriksen--Hazard

    -----Iheanacho(or anichebe)--Slimani-----------

Also, who should I captain? Eriksen or Hazard (or other)

    Thanks!

    Foster | Heaton
    Alonso | Daniels | Evans | Williams | Amat
    Hazard | Firmino | Siggy | Redmond | Capoue
    Kane | Costa | Nacho

Way I see it firmino, redmond, Williams and Nacho are all problems .. what's the priority? Also don't really want Eriksen as chasing is a ML and leader has him already

How viable is 4-4-2 this year?

3rd striker options are fairly terrible and not very cheap anyway. Cheap mids are ok but seems like some of the premium defenders would be much more potent anyway.

      1. President Giggs
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 3 months ago

It seems like there are very few viable players under 7m right now, doubling up on Chelsea def in a 4-4-2 is something worth thinking about

I was looking at 4-4-2 with Alonso, brunt and bellerin playing pretty much as wingers anyway, also they all have amazing fixtures

        this.
but. 1. Chelsea aside are there any sides offering strong candidates as 4th defenders? Basically you're going to be doubling up on at least 1 defence.
        2. There really is little value in 3rd strikers under 7.5m excepting Anichebe as very much an enabler.
        3. Defenders aren't exactly racking up bonus pts , goals or assists this season.
        4. Is 3-5-2 still ahead of 4-4-2 just because of the numbers of midfielders are contributing?

He played a friendly for England but never a competitive game so is free to choose.

What are your views on going heavy in defense for the festive period?

The schedule demands rotation/ From the past we have seen that defenders are less prone to rotation, games are low scoring due to fatigue especially for teams with a small squad. We should see more 0-0 and 1-0 scores than usual. The big teams like Chelsea, Spurs, Utd and Arsenal have very strong fixtures.

I have gone with Walker, Toby, Alonso, Cedric and Pieters. Too much money invested than most but I think it will pay off as a good and safe differential.

      1) Is Gung-Ho Crystal Palace one of the best teams in the league ... at "FPL Football"?

      2) Are the hits paying off for the masses?

      3) Has Costa taken Aguero's place as the safe captaincy pick?

      4) Is the template starting to form? Do we need some differentials to cut through our rank?

      5) Did the scoutcast guys make a huge mistake with Walcott?

      6) Is there a new breed of FPL manager called a "Tail-Chaser"? Has patience become a lost virtue in the game?

      7) Has Sanchez made us too scared to sell players like Firmino?

      8) Is Andy's ankle injury genuine or has he been yellow flagged to prevent a price rise?

      9) Is it safe to get a West Ham player now?

Made it easier I think. Means we all have money to spend and don't have to worry about going Aguero-less.

Means I can afford Kane and Costa - and over the last two weeks have risen 600K places thanks to that pair and others bought with Aguero's price tag.

(While we are all looking right now at transfers like Firmino to Payet or Mahrez, someone like Ville Ronka saves his transfers at almost every chance and arguably then makes better decisions based on more than just the most immediate gameweek passed)

Good question pluto. I have decided to stop reacting this season and stick to my guns on players a bit more.

Good players will score points, they all go through little lean spells but if you are constantly dropping them for the latest player to score big your team gets all bent out of shape very quickly.

Why do you keep promoting Bournmouth defenders when the stats say they are a terrible defence.

They have the 4th most big chances conceded with the other four in the top 5 being widely considered the worst defences in the league (Swansea, West Ham, Hull, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace) with the top 5 defences for least big chances conceded being Chelsea, Spurs, Saints, Man utd and Boro.

They have conceded the joint 7th most goals in the league with 25 only one better than joint 5th.

If you want to promote them based on attacking stats by all means go ahead but please don't use their rather fortunate 4 clean sheets as an argument to bring them in.

See link below to table for full list of big chance conceded stats.

Daniels is the 6th highest points scoring defender in FPL, and the 5 players above him all cost over 6m.
Bournemouth have conceded 16 goals in 8 away matches, but only 9 including 3 clean sheets in their 7 home matches.
The 5 Bournemouth defenders also have 7 goals and 5 assists between them.

In my opinion it is quite ridiculous that Daniels (or possibly Ake) is not in the FFS Watchlist.

Yes I agree attacking wise they have done great but defensively they are horrible. I wouldn't touch them tbh but I like my defenders to have a reasonable chance of a cs.

Don't bother throwing back 4 cs the as you can't use stats for some things and not others, the stats say they have been fortunate to get the cs they have.

The only one I'd possibly look at is ake but I doubt he is nailed.

But you also can't cherry-pick some stats and ignore others.
Why do you only consider big chances conceded but ignore actual goals conceded?

I don't they are the seventh worst defence for goals conceded.

The only reason I use big chances is I find it shows the good and bad fences with a strong correlation between big chances conceded and goals conceded. Check out the table.

They are far better at home than in away matches.
They are the 10th best defence for home goals conceded and joint 4th best for home clean sheets.

Their defenders are also rather effective attackers, as well as being cheaper than defenders from the few teams that have more home clean sheets (Chelsea, Spurs and Southampton), and they are excellent value for their price, especially if you only play them in home matches.

Daniels achieved 130 FPL points in 37 appearances last season with 3 goals, 5 assists and 7 clean sheets (a very respectable 3.5ppg), so he's no mug.

In 2015-16, Bournemouth's home performances were very similar to their away ones.
At home they scored 23 and conceded 34, keeping 4 clean sheets. (1.21, 1.79, 0.21 per home match).
In away matches they scored 22 and conceded 33, keeping 3 clean sheets. (1.16, 1.74, 0.16 per away match).
In 2016-17 however their home performances have improved considerably in both attack and defence, but the opposite has happened in their away matches.
At home they have scored 14 and conceded 9 in 7 matches, with 3 clean sheets. (2.0, 1.3, 0.4).
In away matches they have scored 7 and conceded 16 in 8 matches, with 1 clean sheet. (0.9, 2.0, 0.1).

Their returns may or may not regress at home. They may or may not also improve when away. But I don't think their defender's prices or attacking points should be ignored.
And was their 4th home clean sheet this evening lucky too?

I don't know if tonight's cs was "lucky" but cs are a lottery at the best of times and I'd prefer if my gk didn't have to be making 4 saves for a cs.

Some of their defenders have very good attacking stats but Daniels stats for last season are misleading due to the penalties. I'd say you could take at least 14 points off his total for last year which would put him closer to 3.2ppg which I think would be about right. The biggest problem with them is lack of predictability with four of their cs coming against Everton, spurs (boruc 4 saves) and Leicester (boruc 4 saves) and Stoke away (federici 5 saves) and they then concede home to Hull and Sunderland at home.

Each to their own but not for me I'm afraid.

Antonio only 8pts less in total than Firmino.

Had a thought about that but can Defoe score against the best defense in the league?

his horrible xmas fixture list for palace will answer a few questions on zaha. he does it against weaker teams (double figure halls have all been against bottom 6 sides), he now needs to show it against united, chelsea and arsenal

      For origi owners/watchers:

Origi just posted an instagram story with his foot elevated, lying on the floor, captioned 'recovery'. I can't link it as it wasn't a standard post, it was a 'story'. I'd advise those who use Instagram to check it out and make a judgement for themselves.

Interestingly if Origi is actually injured (very weak source) firmino would likely return to a false 9. Just thought you'd all want to know about this 🙂

no sign that he's injured at all, just a normal procedure to keep the muscles fresh between workouts

      Heaton
      Walker, Kos, Pieters
      Haz, Wally, Eriksen, Allen
      Costa, Kane, Defoe

      Pick, Fletch, Amat, Holebas
