Kasper Schmeichel will be assessed ahead of Leicester City’s visit to Stoke. Younes Kaboul is back in contention as Watford makes their way to Sunderland, though Palace look set to be without James Tomkins until the middle of next month.

Here’s the news from the pre-Gameweek 17 press conferences so far…

Roberto Pereyra and Stefano Okaka have been ruled out of Watford’s encounter with Sunderland, though Younes Kaboul is back in contention.

Kasper Schmeichel is back in training and could be in line for a return from a recent hand injury. Claudio Ranieri will make a late assessment on his number one and will also check Danny Drinkwater’s knee complaint ahead of the trip to Stoke City.

Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser is set for scans on an ankle complaint. Eddie Howe has confirmed that Callum Wilson was checked for concussion and has been cleared, though the striker remains a slight doubt for the visit of Southampton after being forced off in midweek with blurred vision.

Dieumerci Mbokani returns to the Hull squad for the weekend trip to Spurs after serving a three-match ban.

Aaron Ramsey is close to returning from injury but remains unavailable for Arsenal’s trip to Man City. Arsene Wenger has also revealed that Danny Welbeck is expected to step up his recovery from injury by returning to training next week.

Jason Puncheon is available for Palace’s clash with Chelsea after serving a one-match ban. Alan Pardew has conceded that James Tomkins is expected to be sidelined until mid-January.

Mark Hughes expects both Marc Muniesa and Eric Pieters to recover from minor problems in time for tomorrow’s visit of Leicester. Marko Arnautovic starts the first of a three-match ban, while Ibrahim Afellay will step up his recovery from a knee injury with a run out for the reserves later today.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.

We’ve a busy ahead, with this handy hot topic by Ozil highlighting the scheduled times for the remaining press conferences.

Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Amongst our main concerns are Eden Hazard, who missed Chelsea’s midweek trip to Sunderland with a knock, while we’re also eagerly awaited for news on Divock Origi – the most transferred in forward for the Gameweek, he picked up a knock towards the end of Liverpool’s win at Middelsbrough.

Pep Guardiola’s afternoon conference is also on the agenda as we wait for word on a potentially season-ending knee injury to Ilkay Gundogan.

It seems almost disrespectful to bench my midweek stars but I reckon I've got to bench Brunt & Rondon this weekend.

Rondon ahead of Defoe - Na.

Brunt on bench behind Alonso, Walker & ASmith - seems fair.

Just feel Brunt might still deliver but who to ship?

    Pickford
    Alonso Walker ASmith
    Sanchez Hazard Lallana Eriksen Allen
    Defoe Kane.

    Allen?

Haha yeah, living the dream! I've just been considering your problem and it is a tough one... West Brom will probably try and park the bus against Utd (and fail) and you would expect Utd to nullify WBA's set piece threat which makes Rondon and Brunt worse options... I think you may have it right already. Allen over Rondon.

Tough one, especially since A. Smith is also playing as a winger and is home against the low scoring Saints team, maybe the opposition swings it to benching Brunt (I'm playing him, but I don't have your "problems" in defence).

Any news on Mihkitaryan's reurn? Still penciled in for Boxing day ?

I'll be using my 2 FT's the coming week and shall chose between the following for Kane & Payet

    A) Ibra & Mihkitaryan (have JUST enough wonga for this)
    B) Ibra & Pogba
    C) Ibra & Lallana

A is risky, but I think it has the highest upside over the coming 5-6 weeks.

So, is A TOO risky, and if so which one of B and C floats your boat

Posted last night but thought I would see what the lunchtime discussion was:

    Eriksen: Return to Statistical Norm?

His stats are way above other top players on the popular stats tables e.g. One Stat to Rule them All etc. But for me they are so far above that surely he is likely to underperform and return his stats to roughly normal for a Mid priced Mid?

For example Capoue had a cracking start and quickly returned to what yu woudl expect from his price bracket
    Same for Son for example.

What do we think with Eriksen, have those of us who've not got him missed the boat?

    1. pompeyfan
      • 16 Years
      9 years, 3 months ago

you can't compare Eriksen & Capoue. Eriksen's numbers for goals and assists combined are pretty strong:

      2015/16 - 22
      2014/15 - 14
      2013/14 - 16
      2012/13 - 27
      2011/12 - 26
      2010/11 - 17

and that's just in the league

I think you said it yourself when you said "his stats are way above other top players on the popular stats tables e.g. One Stat to Rule them All etc."

Of course he might let us captainers down but it's a bit like a game of cards: It feels a lot better going all in with a pair of aces than with a 7 and a 2.

Playing by the odds will probably work out for the best in the long term even though a cheeky punt works out now and then.

    3. Bellerinmondo
      • 11 Years

But capoue stats were never good so he was over performing
Eriksen was the opposite. Good stats but not delivering. So made sense to get him - although some (me) stubbornly held on to firmino and came to regret it .

Much happier with my team this week.

As previously posted, I really didn't like my team last week due to too many players from too few teams....depite racking up plenty of pts over the last few weeks.

I much prefer a bit more coverage to ganging up on the easy fixtures. It's not all about pts .

It's a game that's meant to be enjoyable. I sometimes opt not to captain/start/transfer in a player that I think will score points if there's an alternative I get to watch on tv.

What to do with this lot, if anything?

      Foster/Heaton

      Walker – Alonso – A. Smith (Pieters/Amat)

Hazard – Ozil – Alli – Zaha (Capoue)

      Ibra – Lukaku - Carroll

Surely Carroll is the only real ‘punt’ in there?

        get kane or eriksen

      3. George James

I would say Ozil, Alli, Lukaku and Carroll are differentials (punts) going on what is being said on here anyway.

Could be gold, Good luck mate

Ah but do differentials = punts?

Punts to me mean gambles (which Carroll obviously is).
Differentials to me are good solid players that are not flavour of the month (eg everyone goes for Sanchez over Ozil, Eriksen over Alli etc)

Brunt. Man U aren't Actually that imposing an offense, and WBA sport a typically Pulis defense.

        I would play Holebas
ManU are pretty tight defensively and are good for a goal too
I would fancy Holebas for a clean sheet and some attacking returns more in this game

Even with a great result against Man City recently Leicester are not out of the woods yet losing Slimani and Mahrez in January to AFCON will not help the cause much

Or maybe it will be a great opportunity for some fringe players to take to the stage who comes into the squad in their place Okazaki and Musa or might we see a return for Ulloa i have seen much of his so far this season

        Valdes (Pickford)

        Alonso, Chambers, VanDijk (Evans, Amat)

        Hazard, Payet, Eriksen, Sigurdsson (Phillips)

        Anichebe, Costa, Kane

Conte won't tell us much about Hazard in the presser anyway

He dosent mention it when a starter picked up an injury
