Fact or fiction, Friday night’s media circus surrounding Diego Costa was always going to impact on our Gameweek.

Over 374,000 Fantasy Premier League managers moved to show the Spaniard the door in the last 24-hours as reports stated that Costa had been “dropped” for Chelsea’s trip to Leicester City.

Of those transfers, more than 124,000 shifted to Olivier Giroud but, more significantly, just over 76,000 were to look to Spurs’ Harry Kane as their replacement.

Despite Giroud finding the net for the fourth successive Gameweek, Kane’s hat-trick and return of 17 points stole the headlines and provided an instant reward for those who had reacted to the Costa kerfuffle.

Another 32,000 have already pulled the plug on Costa since the passing of today’s deadline, seemingly consigning the striker to a term of absence and dismissing the prospect of Chelsea’s next fixture with Hull City at the Bridge.

It’s not clear if Costa will be a factor in that match.

Antonio Conte was quick to dispel the talk of a dispute or “bust-up”, citing a back problem as the cause of Costa’s omission. The striker will now apparently be assessed ahead of Gameweek 22, as the Blues work to diffuse talk of their player being unsettled.

That will be no easy task.

Ironically, even without their leading scorer, Chelsea were to breeze past the Foxes in third gear, with Marcos Alonso, another Fantasy asset subject to recent media reports, providing an unexpected brace and 21 points to outperform even Kane’s haul.

With Nathan Ake’s recall, there was talk and even reports that Alonso’s status in the Chelsea line-up was at risk.

The Standard reported “growing injury concerns” and, while Alonso’s start at the King Power was never seriously questioned, there were new doubts surrounding the Spaniard’s long-term prospects following Ake’s return.

Confidence was knocked. More than 78,000 FPL managers moved Alonso out of their squads over the past two Gameweeks, reacting to the four goals conceded but also perhaps the reports of Alonso’s “problem”.

Post-match, Alonso himself confirmed that there was some truth in the chatter but, with his emphatic performance, he had underlined both his present condition and importance to Chelsea and Fantasy managers.

The noise and bluster surrounding these two prize assets has been difficult to shut-out – in Costa’s case, it will inevitably continue.

The striker’s remaining owners will now be forced to strap themselves in for a prolonged period of uncertainty, with the tempting Gameweek 22 fixture providing an alluring reason to sit it out.

Meanwhile, those holding Alonso will be strengthening their grip.

Whatever the “pain” recently felt by the wing-back, it likely pales in significance next to the agony now being felt by those who sold him over the last two Gameweeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Morning ladies and gents

    Expert eyes take a look. 0ITB 2FT

    Heaton/Pick
    Alonso Holebas Ake Amat Pieters
    Haz Sanchez Lallana Phillips Fletcher
    Kun Ibra Benteke

Need to raise cash but can't sell Haz before Hull or Lallana before Swansea.

    A) Kun > Kane, Ake > Rose (exact money)
    B) Benteke > Gray, Ake > Baines (exact money)
    C) Switch to 3-5-2 so Benteke > Barnes, Fletcher > Antonio/Pedro, Ake>Nyom/Chambers, -4.

    Something else

    Ideas on this lot?

    Heaton Jaku
    Alonso Lovren Holebas Evans Amat
    Sanchez Hazard Eriksen Phillips Fletcher
    Ibra Kane Defoe

    0.7 in bank, 1 FT.

Defence is an issue soon, can I get away with saving?

Holebas is on his last legs. He could get suspended in GW22 so FA Cup would take a game.

Should be ok. As long as you have a decently strong XI for next week it's better to save right? Only a question of which keeper will get you more saves and probably a choice between Holebas and Evans for your starting XI I guess.

I was just looking at the fa cup draw and it seems like nearly all the Prem clubs have favourable fixtures to get through to round 5. There could only be two or three games on that weekend by the look of it.

Does that mean we will have a massive blank week in Gw28 and a massive dgw coming up a few weeks later? When are the rescheduled games likely to be played?

Rd 5 needs to be played before GW28 blanks are known. Champions League is on in the midweek after so they get saved for much later.

Do Brazilian defenders play bad on purpose? so that they can sell their young 'wonderkids' abroad for loads of money.

Certainly not impressed by Gabriel Jesus, no way he can cause any rotation issues to Aguero imo.

Is Holgate ever going to get a game for Everton. I have this defense:
    Alonso, Rose, Lovren, Jones, Pieters
I need to raise 0.2 for gw23 to sell Defoe & buy Kane.
Would you do Pieters to Holgate. I have 1ft & 3.0itb. Everton have good fixtures coming up & if by some fluke he gets a game he'll at least have a good fixture to play in.

    Full team:
    Foster, Valdes
    Alonso, Rose, Lovren, Jones, Pieters
    Sanchez, Alli, Lallana, Phillips, Stanislas
    Ibra, Giroud, Defoe

    Thoughts & thanks.

        • 12 Years
        9 years, 22 days ago

        Actually he'd be better. Thanks.
The only problem it would give me no cushion for another Kane price rise so I'd have to get Kane in for a hit in gw22 as I'd say he'll probably rise another 2 times before gw22.
If I went Holgate I would have the cushion for Kane's price rises & could wait as late as possible.
        So my problem is:
        (a) buy Yoshida who seems nailed, then I'll be forced to buy Kane for a hit with 0.0itb or
        (b) buy Holgate who is not nailed but it allows me to get Kane for free in gw23.

Who would be the best defender to transfer in from now on and next 5 weeks or so?
Already have Alonso, the rest of them are "cheap".

Williams (4.9) will allow me to upgrade Antonio to Coutinho/Eriksen, or similar, next week.
While Mustafi (5.8) or Rose (6.) means I have to get in Phillips or Stanislas next week.

What's your take on it? Cheers 🙂

Would it be silly to sell Lallana (Swansea home) & buy Pedro (Hull home). The reason is to raise funds to sell Defoe & buy Kane in gw23 as I'm 0.2 short. I've been through all scenarios with my team & this makes more sense considering Pedro plays in a more advanced position than Lallana & with Mane gone the attack is not in the same form as the Chelsea attack is.

    Here's my team with 1ft & 3.0itb:
    Foster (Valdes)
    Alonso, Rose, Lovren (Jones, Pieters)
    Sanchez, Alli, Lallana, Phillips, Stanislas
    Ibra, Giroud (Defoe)

    Thanks.

Is it necessary to have Liverpool MF ?

    (1) Cup games and Mixed difficulties with 3 games at home in the next 4 GWs
... (FA Cup replay), SWA, (Cup Semi-Final), CHE, hul, TOT

    (2) Miss some key players, e.g. Mane, Henderson, Matip

    (3) Coutinho just come back

Original plan was to get Coutinho, but there are many interesting choices from Spurs, Arsenal, United, and Everton to get too.

I took Antonio for Siggy last week. But Palace(h) was part of the attraction. He's a good set and forget option if you want to lock down that slot in your squad.

I'd be very tempted by Chadli though. He'll come good when he gets his fitness/sharpness back, same as Alli did.

          I guess he will have.

Costa was a bit of a pain for me. 🙁 Not because I had him but because a whole bunch of people knee-jerked over to Kane and got lucky.

Indirectly for me as well, as I had kept Kane, many so many Costa owners switched to Kane...lessening the differential..

              Yeah, that's what I mean.

The more options there are, the better I am pleased. Harder to get an edge when an obvious template forms up.

Well done on Antonio anyhow. 🙂

That's exactly my thinking for getting Chadli, with the run of fixtures WBA have he's bound to come good

Antonio's fixtures after this don't entice me, just wary of getting Chadli as a fixture punt because that means I will stick with him till the last good fixture irrespective of returns. (Got burned by Arnie doing the same earlier)

Bench at Chelsea is better than playing at Bournemouth. He has the chance of becoming a regular squad member at an elite team at the age of 21.

Even JT wasn't a 1st team regular at Chelsea till age 23.
