The complexity of the fixture schedule is ramping up as conflicting league and cup commitments clash for a number of teams and key Fantasy assets. Fortunately, some of our regular community posters have been on hand to start guiding us through the blanks and doubles, as well as offer advice on formation, team value and the pecking order within the improving Everton defence.

Ronald Koeman’s assets in attack also come under the watchful gaze of our community writers, while our Members tables take a peak at some of the key statistics for success in FanDuel.

We look back on all that, plus take time out to scan the top of our community leagues, who are no doubt already getting to grips with impending changes in the fixture calendar.

The Community Articles

Poor old Romelu Lukaku. Despite being one of Fantasy Football’s most significant and free-scoring assets over several seasons, he is still struggling to shake off his reputation for “trolling” Fantasy Football managers with unexpected disappointments.

Self-confessed fan of the Everton striker, MGPT, has decided to take action to debunk this myth, assessing Lukaku’s Premier League record in a bid to defend the striker’s honour.

The majority of the top five in our career Hall of Fame may take some convincing on that score, according to TopMarx’s latest look at this elite group. His analysis of their Gameweek 22 moves shows that just one of these top ranked managers have invested in the Belgian’s talents ahead of Everton’s kind run of fixtures.

Finally, for those who fancy honing their skills in a different sport, Rugby fan Hutch James served up this guide to the Fantasy game taking place around the forthcoming Six Nations tournament.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With the first postponements now in place for Gameweek 26 due to the EFL Cup final, Jarvish dropped by to advise people to start preparing early. One of his latest posts on the issue, features an excellent spreadsheet on the current picture regarding blanks and double Gameweeks by Perchinho.

Preserving the Wildcard looks to be key given these impending fixture list complications, added Jarvish in another hot topic on how to get the best use of this chip – a crucial weapon over the vital second phase of the campaign.

We also joined the discussion with this hot topic focusing on those players set to face a Premier League blank due to the forthcoming Wembley showpiece in February.

However, this week saw some better news regarding missing players, as Ozil delivered us an updated report from the Africa Cup of Nations, bringing news of returning stars such as Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, who will be back in domestic action following the conclusion of the tournament’s group stages.

Formation changes also topped this week’s agenda, with a points bonanza from defenders in Gameweek 22 giving many of those who responded to our Rough with the Smooth round-up the opportunity to ponder a switch to a four-man backline.

Sneivitz is among the community’s advocates of spending more in defence this season, especially as many are being utilised in attacking roles for their clubs.

Everton wing-backs Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman are among such forward-thinking defenders, according to In Conte we Trust’s look at this dynamic duo.

The Toffees midfield is also providing us with options, with Athletico Timbo dropping by to take a look at the merits of the improved form of Ross Barkley and Kevin Mirallas.

Not a week goes by without the Fantasy Premier League’s transfer market attracting debate.

This time Wakey took his turn on the soap box to lament some Fantasy managers’ obsession with chasing profit over points. He returned later in the week with some further musings on team value and the options open to those short on funds.

Ville Ronka is a Fantasy manager who can never be accused of wasting knee jerk transfers. According to our latest Hall of Fame update, he has retained his place at the summit based on a tried and tested patient approach to FPL management: so far this season he has yet to make a single points hit.

Given his success and an unexpected return to form for forgotten players such as Liverpool’s Robert Firmino, we wondered whether patience could once again prove a virtue in FPL.

Even the most patient of Fantasy managers would have long given up on Saido Berahino after months on the sidelines for West Brom. But now, 0.5m cheaper and perhaps an assured starter for new club Stoke City, we asked whether the striker could possibly return to the radar, along with a number of other cut-price gems.

We also took a look at some of the bargains at relegation battling sides who could well offer strong potential for the season run-in.

With a less than successful recent spell at West Brom, Berahino certainly has ‘something to prove’ – a cliché that comes under criticism from Epic Fail in his myth-busting look at some of Fantasy Football’s most overused terms.

Finally, FPL Virgin has been thinking about how FPL can make better use of its chips, with some new suggestions to consider.

The Members Tables

Maximillianfescue has compiled this handy table looking at some of the best data when considering a attacking assets, including goal involvement.

For those taking part in our FanDuel social league, my table looking at the key criteria for success in this format, should prove useful.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

In Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season mini-league, there’s no change at the top with Raul Seleccion still dominating proceedings. It is also business as usual in his January to May league, where Ogie Nolan continues at the summit. Ogie, whose team was mentioned on this week’s Scoutcast, is also top of our Members League.

Arutla Jatin is another dominant manager and retains top spot in our main league. He is up to second, 51 points behind overall leader Knut Hebaek.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score was 44, which saw 100 players depart and 699 remain.

Torres Magic retains his lead in the FFS Moderators and Contributors league, 12 points ahead of second placed Spencer.

There’s also no movement at the top of my Millionaires Club, for those with an unfortunate Gameweek 12 rank above the one million mark, with Gilles Wanlin continuing his ascent up the rankings in style. He is now ranked an impressive 74,223.

Elsewhere, Jaffalicious delivered his latest report from the UEFA Champions League tournament, which has now reached the last 16 stage.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups, please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

    @The Big fella.

Although it feels like Heaton has been getting a CS every week he has only actually got 5 this season...but he's way out on his own for saves with 52 more than Courtois. At a pt for every 3 saves that's quite a stat.

I don't expect Randolph will better Heaton for saves (he will still do ok) but I do think Whm have a chance of a couple more CS's than Burnley for the run in. 4.4...what's not to like...

Heaton's next 7 games include 5 away games and a home game to Chelsea... not looking great! I've been considering Randolph too 🙂

Have had Randolph since Pickford got injured! Hoping to get some differential points from him.

However... If I had the choice again I'd have kept Heaton back when I wildcarded, the huge amount of points he tends to get is inarguable. Will be 5.0+ next year if Burnley stay up / he gets purchased if they go down, so I feel like I've missed out on the bargain of the season keeper wise.

That said... I am distrustful goalkeepers above 4.5 generally. The ceiling is so conditional (you need a pen save for the big points!) that I kind of feel like the cash is better spent up the pitch

      1. The Big Fella
        • 9 Years

I agree with this last paragraph so much. However, Courtois IS getting 6 points almost every game he plays which is a very nice return. If there were any player in any position more or less guaranteed 6 points every game for 5.9m, people would snatch their hands off.

Costa is a great example. 2 points for 60+ minutes plus he scores most games but rarely picks up BAPS so finishes most games with the same 6 points as Courtois yet costs 10.3m and he is very popular.

        1. Dr Dream
          • 13 Years
          9 years, 2 months ago

That's the other thing to consider with Heaton. Burnley really don't have many players with any outstanding talents to pinch BAPS....they're really just a band of avg talents. Heaton is the only outstanding talent with his save BPS, he's not competing much with a team of dribblers or CBI players.

Yeah. Their stand out outfield player is Defour and he is injury prone. I will watch WHU this coming week and make a decision about Randolph. It may be a nice little punt as I am only playing a cheapy anyway.

You know what, I wrestle with this every year. Was very close to starting the season with Cech as the cheapest route into our backline.

However, I do tend to find that you take a hit elsewhere in your team - having courtouis over pickford, for example, is 2.0 less to spend (at gw1 prices) on the rest of your team. Last year was an anomaly but this (and many other a) year TV, and getting the big guns in your team, is such a huge factor that I'd happily take save points (3pts/game) over the constant 6 if I could get a better player in up top.. thats the difference between getting Sanchez over Ozil, as an isolated example.

          1. The Big Fella
            • 9 Years

The thing is, I am very happy with my team and the only thing it would perhaps do is stop me bringing in Coleman for Holgate but I already Baines anyway.

I have Aguero, Ibra and Sanchez plus Alli and Alonso. If I did Lallana to Antonio and then Grant to Courtois, I would still have 0.8m and could always downgrade (a misnomer as it stands given the form of both players) Aguero to Kane which would give me 3 big hitters still plus a balanced team elsewhere.

This wouldn't be until next GW anyway which is good as it lets me watch WHU this week to decide if I want Randolph or not.

Great comment. Cheers for taking the time to write this. Thanks. I will consider it. To be honest, I could do Courtois and Randolf as my 2nd GK is Pickford but then if I pay nearly 6m for a GK, I really need to be playing him every game which would make Randolph superfluous.

Don't forget that Heaton is a bps magnet. It is a wonder to me, but if they have a CS, he almost guaranteed 3 bps. He even got 3 baps when Burnley won 1-0 recently, going ahead of player who scored the only and also the winning goal!

With Yannick injured I'd say Mirallas has the chance to emerge as a genuine option! He's got a reputation for being selfish which is good for FPL reasons (taking a pen off Baines anyone?)

Had no reason to stay where I was - had a job that didn't pay well, was only 30 hours a week and I dreaded going into every day.

    Hi all,

Just following on from the hot topic, I thought I'd summarise some new ideas and suggestions for FPL. I should mention that these are not all my ideas.

As mentioned before, points is what makes the game come alive. And the more opportunities to score points (while retaining the skill factor), the more enjoyable the game. I do think that, with 4 million plus now playing the game, we need more ways to get points and more ways to distinguish yourself from the mass of other players.

    NEW WAYS TO SCORE POINTS:

    1) Part clean sheet bonus. Like the current clean sheet bonus (4 points for 60 mins) but 2 points for 30 mins. Substitute defenders who play 59 mins or 57 mins or something like that and make a significant contribution to not conceding will get something.

    2) 2 points for a key contribution to a goal; 3 points for the goal's official assist. Far too often a player doesn't get rewarded for a significant action that preceded a goal.

    3) An extra point for a consecutive goal in a match. So Kane gets 4 points for his 1st goal; 5 points for his 2nd; 6 points for his 3rd.

    4) 2 points for a defensive midfielder clean sheet. FPL can differentiate attacking and defensive midfielder based on their price. Why can't they do it for CS points?

    NEW CHIP IDEAS:

    1) Double clean sheet chip.

Can be used once in a season and applies to starting GK, Defenders and midfielders during a single GW.

    2) Starting Price Chip.

Can be used once in a season after January 1st. Allows you to buy 1 player at his starting price. E.g. Costa for £9.5m. Walker for £5.5m.

    3) Bench Recall Chip.

Can be used once in a season on one player after a GW locks. Let's you bring a single benched player into your starting 11 after the event. Could have been used on Capoue in GW1, for example. I despise leaving points on the bench and if once, just once, you could bring the points into your team, I think it would make one of the most frustrating parts of FPL more palatable.

UFPL got it right imo. You really needed to understand the scoring before running off and just picking goalscorers.

Quite a few rules in that similar to the Save pts vs CS's argument for keepers in FPL.

It's like building a good website, Numb. Just steal all the best bits from your competitors websites and use them for yours.

FPL is a million times better than TFF, but that doesn't mean FPL can't poach a few good ideas from other games.

im sure others have already said this but half of these dont distinguish u from others they negatively impact the skill factor. part c.s points has been shot down by every1 so i dont think i need to add to it... but ur fixing something thats not broken with these. not trying to have a go - just dont like any of the ideas.

2pts for def mids I can get on board with, it brings DMs into consideration. But I don't like any of the others TBH, and I think chips should be kept in the casino. What relevance do they have to football? Just a blinking gimmick.

Sometimes I feel like you do and take the purists POV. But the kid in me loves the chips. Nothing beats them for excitement. You will see it on here as we get close to the double GWs.

Sorry but all of these are ridiculous. The chips have been put into the game to make casuals play it all season and all it's done is add a degree more of luck and us hardcore players just take advantage of planning for these chips.

I'd rather they were all gone tbh

One idea might be that your bench players only get half of their weekly score....removes people with the lucky profit of big points on the bench coming in especially when didn't start them.

Another option, but I think would be too difficult to control would be, you start your 11 but can sub in your three players for three other players....ie defender plays 60 mins and then you sub for 8th attacking player for the last 30 mins....but the key is you only get the points for when the players are listed to play....so if the defender scored or assisted in last 30 you wouldn't get those points....and likewise for the sub coming on you would only get the points for the last 30 mins they played.

I know would be extremely difficult to coordinate but is an option

        Rules from before:
2 clean sheets points for midfielders.
        Every transfer costed 2p.
No limit of players from same team.
Jury on the stands sat bonus points. (One time, all Southampton players got tripple bonus, Anders Svensson included)
        No chips, No wildcard.
Not minus for missed penalty etc etc.. 😉

Well, at least 15 years I think.

The points and rules are good but chips improvements could be something. All out attack chip is quite toothless and could be replaced. I like the double cleas sheet bonus even thoug it certainly will be used in Dgws like all other chips.

Keeping the game simple attracts more managers I think..

Good work with your post FPLV!

Three at the back on the cards I think. Surprised Pint of Wine Allardyce has never done it before to be honest.

Yeh, just seems odd spending so much on identical players.

I've also still got PVA so wondering whether he'll be left back or left wing!

Schlupp must be thinking why the f did they sign me if they're bringing in PVA?

Hopefully he emerges as an oop prospect on the left wing, but I'd definitely be thinking allardyce will be worried he's totally exposed defensively on that flank and never play the two together...

Not only the girls ignore my messages, but FFS community ignores my posts and comments here. What a lovely life.

Maybe it's because all the girls are from the FFS community?

Right lads, who for captaincy and why?

    A) Eriksen - Great record against Sunderland, who are very depleted in their resources and generally very poor

    B) Sanchez - Home against a poor very Watford, though can we trust Arsenal, as they usually struggle to break down 'small teams' at home?

Sanchez if leading, Eriksen/Alli if chasing and fancy a punt

Yep, Alli for me for his extra goal threat over Eriksen.

Diminished if anything, I would say. No pens and no set pieces (most likely)

Why on earth wouldn't he take set pieces

i post alot on here but i dont tend to ask for advice very often guys but i have an issue this week. my defence is dann (dont ask how)(BOU) Jones(HUL) Brunt(mid). i have ake and amat who i will make baines and coleman next week. my question is this do i get coleman now even though i would only play him if dann doesnt make the match. this ensures i have a sub which otherwise i wont. or do i roll the sub and do both next week as planned allowing me to reassess and check both get through their next games fit and healthy. cheers for taking the time to help me.

How likely is Dann to play? Wait until the presser, if he isn't going to play, make the transfer. If he is, don't make the transfer.
