We’re left punctured and deflated like that old plastic ball you used to kick over the fence into the neighbour’s garden.

That neighbour is Pep Guardiola, who appears to take great pleasure in putting his big teamsheet tinkering garden fork through our bouncy double Gameweek dreams.

Recorded in the dying stages of Manchester City’s non-event clash against a stubborn Stoke, Jonty, Andy and myself are left rather flat during this episode of the ScoutCast.

Even the most imaginative accountant couldn’t hide the fact that, after transfer hits aplenty and having witnessed Messrs Kane, Costa, Hazard and Lukaku grab hauls, all three of us depart Gameweek 27 in the red.

Gathering ourselves after that disappointment, and steered by your questions, we nonetheless press on to offer our latest musings on the minefield of blanks presented by Gameweek 28, while checking in on Sanchez’ fading star and third striker options.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Wednesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link or the first player below, or take in the full visual experience, pastry and all, via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      I am split too ...

Have Lukaku, Mane, Coutinho and Firminho

Also have both Foster and Heaton

      A) Play Foster (@ Eve), captain Lukaku?
      B) Play Heaton (@ Liv), captain a 'pool MID?
      C) If (B) above, which 'pool MID?

There must be some algorithm to figure this out ...

      1. DOG GOD IT - KEANE 15
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 1 month ago

        LIV vs BUR
        1) Mane and Firm just had hauls, whereas Coutinho is 'due'
        2) Heaton should be back from illness with a point to prove?
        3) Burnley won 2-0 at home to 'pool earlier this season, but Mane did not play in that game

        EVE vs WBA
        1) Lukaku just scored last week, will he score again?
        2) WBA were disappointing last week at home to CP (0-2), likely TP would have read them the riot act so can expect an improved performance?
        3) Lukaku might want to prove a point against his old team (albeit he was only on loan), but likewise his old team might want to keep him as quiet as possible

Opta. Premier league and subsequently fpl should start recording and rewarding "assist the assister passes" often these require more skill and vision than the actual assist.
    Thoughts?

    1. Rasping Drive
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 16 Years
      9 years, 1 month ago

And often they don't require more skill. Don't see the point to be honest (from a FPL perspective). Will just make the game more complex than it needs to be.

      1. Ruffio
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 1 month ago

Ok I concede. That wasn't fully thought through. You'd also get goalkeepers with regular attacking points and big Sams defence would rule the day. How else can we stop me being so annoyed when my player does all the hard work and my ml rival gets the points for an easy cross!?
        My problem...I know

    2. Rover
      • 9 Years

Not when West Brom is involved... It's difficult enough awarding goals, let alone assists, forget this!

      • 12 Years

Why not give points to the guy who started the move and the guy who touched it 2nd and then the 3rd guy. Wow what a flick from the 3rd guy. 4th guy deserves points too. In fact the goalscorer was just a simple tap in he's lucky not to get points docked

      1. Rover
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 1 month ago

Let's have a 5-3-2-1 system for the 4 touches leading up to the goal 🙂

    4. Ruffio
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 1 month ago

Fair enough then thinking of that lallana pass against the Arsenal. Split the defence and made the chance really more so than the assist really
. But take your points about complexity. Then again it's a complex game

    5. FPLtfs

Bad idea. Then defenders will get a lot more points. Attacking returns from defenders should be a rare bonus, as it it today.

Playing aroud with my team, which looks better for rest of the season:

    A)
    Jakupovic
    WALKER Alonso Coleman
    ALLI Siggy Pedro Mane
    COSTA Kane Gabbi

    Foster McAuley Capoue Stephens
    0.4itb

    B)
    Jakupovic
    McAuley Alonso Coleman
    SANCHEZ Siggy Pedro Mane
    LUKAKU Kane Gabbi

    Foster Capoue ROBERTSON Stephens
    0.2 itb

Had Sanchez most of the season so hard to not have him, but Wenger have startet to bench him? How do you guys feel about getting Sanchez back?

Let's say funds not an issue, with Pool mid to get then.

Mane because why not? Or still one of Firm/Couts.

If you are chasing then Coutinho.

If you are leading then Mane

For whatever reason, hard to go Mane over one of the others but know that I probably should. He can go cold though. Mane. It can be annoying.

Yes, its a lottery. Is has been said since gw 2, and it happened again over the last few weeks. Coutinho points in gw26, Mane and Firmino points in gw27.

Pieters to Funes Mori for a hit? Don't have any other Everton defenders

I like Funes, have him. But hard to say for a hit. If feeling adventurous I say do it.

How does everyone feel about doubling up on players from the same team?

After watching the scoutcast last night I decided to get Coutinho to double up with Mane. Woke up this morning slightly regretting decision. Reason is I haven't had much luck with double-ups this season. Especially defence wise - have gone for double Chelsea defence twice and double Everton defence once and has never worked out. Also doubled up on pool just as hit a bad patch before and also Ali-Erickson didn't go great either.

Hopefully this one will turn out better!

Double ups have gone great for me

First Firm-Cout then Alli-Erik. Depends when you got them in. My PP for both was 8.1

Seems as though you were a little late for the Chelsea Spurs double ups. I think it's worth it. You're covering 2/3 of the Pool mids as opposed to 1/3 + 1/3 of West Ham. Gives you the choice of which one you want to keep after also. I think it's the safer bet.

Double ups always carry the risk of disappointment given we expect returns for the investment every week. The only worry with Pool is Firm, Lallana, Origi, Gino scoring good points. Let's not forget that Coutinho has incredible stats and was the best player to own earlier in the season. Mane is just a beast and we should all own him.

I agree all my double ups have gone horribly, even tempted on King over Cout/Firmino to avoid the double up!!

Think I'd rather have Hazard to be honest. I had Sanchez before the blanks and whilst he was getting me points it was sometimes frustrating to watch him struggling in that Arsenal team with Giroud up front, some of his points were very lucky - like the last minute penalty. Also not sure about his/ Arsenals mental state right now. I think players like Ali, Siggy, Mane can get just as many points and are a lot cheaper

    Have Kane, next weeks
    1. Eriksen Coutinho Brunt to Sanchez Hazard Verthongen
    2. Coutinho Brunt to Sanchez Walker and keep Eriksen
