Eleven goals from the three matches – a hat-trick from a midfield differential and another double-digit return from Romelu Lukaku – with Liverpool’s attack yet to feature, Gameweek 28 looks destined to punch well above its weight.

Brought in by more than 143,000 ahead of Gameweek 28, second only to Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson among midfielders, Bournemouth’s Josh King is clearly the headline act so far.

It all started disastrously for King’s legion of new owners, with the Norwegian calmly side-footing his early spot-kick wide to register a -2 deficit.

However, he was to recover spectacularly, notching only the second hat-trick by an FPL midfielder this season, only falling short of matching Alexis Sanchez’ Gameweek 14 tally of 23-points due to his early penalty miss.

Deployed in a central striker role in recent matches, King was again played in the No 10 position behind Benik Afobe but found his route to goal nonetheless.

Incredibly, he has now produced eight goals in his last seven Gameweeks and looks an assured starter and vital source of goals for the Cherries for the remainder of the season.

The fixture list may stiffen, but King’s potential to go on providing points for a price tag of just 5.5 will surely drive an instant boom in ownership.

Already more than 10,000 have made the move ahead of the Gameweek 29 home meeting with Swansea City – only Spurs’ Harry Kane has seen more transfers since today’s 2pm deadline.

The availability such a budget midfield option, potentially playing in a striker’s role, could now raise further doubts on relying on a three-man forward line.

Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini will be targeted by many once he returns to action but, arguably, with such value available in midfield, there remains a strong case for the 3-5-2.

Certainly, Lukaku looks destined to remain part of our strike force, regardless of formation. He also played a key role in ensuring that the Gameweek 28 tallies will be higher than perhaps expected.

The top captain pick, with 767,000 trusting the striker with the armband, he once again proved his new reassuring level of consistency, particularly at Goodison Park.

Scoring for the fifth consecutive home outing, Lukaku produced a seventh double-figure return and, regardless of the frenzied clamour for Kane ahead of Gameweek 29, his role in our squads surely cannot be questioned.

With three of the next five at home – against Hull City, Leicester City and Burnley – Lukaku will remain locked in and will likely challenge as a captaincy contender over those matches.

While there was disappointment, with Swansea City’s Fernando Llorente failing to provide for his 378,000 new owners having limped off with a dead leg, it seems likely that Gameweek 28 could yet supply some significant scores – particularly if the Liverpool midfield can sparkle at Anfield on Sunday.

Having been flattened by the paltry returns from Manchester City’s midweek failings, Gameweek 28 has already provided unexpected fireworks with Messrs Mane, Coutinho, and perhaps Firmino, yet to take the stage to follow King’s lead.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    1), 2) or 3)?

    1) Baines -> Valencia

    A. Carroll/Llorente to Kane,
    B. Firmino to Hazard, or
    C. both for (–4)?

    Will wait till after tomorrow, at least, but I’m curious in your opinions.

    This is my squad:
    Heaton / Foster*
    Alonso / Coleman / Walker / Williams* / Fernández
    Mané / Firmino* / Sigurdsson / Lanzini / de Roon
    Lukaku / Llorente* / Carroll*

    Very good post by Ruth , just read it couldn't agree more deserves a repost

    The short answer is "when it gives best advantage to your squad".

    The longer answer is that many managers still have an incorrect and somewhat fantastical view about the chips. BB really isn't that big of a deal. The 2nd wildcard, however, IS a big deal. The wildcards are by far the most valuable chips we have.

    To reduce the 2nd wildcard to being nothing more than a set-up device for a chip (BB) that really isn't worth that much anyway is therefore a big strategic mistake. You remove virtually all strategic benefit from it by deploying it as late as GW36. But that strategic (long-term) benefit is its great power.

    Lots of managers will use anecdotal data based on "how well I did last season" to reaffirm their mistake. Of course a lot of people scored high that week. It was a DGW!! And of course they beat the average, they used the BB (and you will get a small jump from playing it whenever you so do). And they used the 2nd wildcard as a set up. If you don't score well from that - IN THAT ONE GAMEWEEK - then something is badly wrong.

    But many of those same managers conveniently ignore the poor weeks beforehand when their team needed re-shaping but they held the wildcard, the hits they were forced to take both earlier and after the BB, the damage they caused the week before by wildcarding a week in advance, the short team they fielded in (this season) GW28 and so on. Many of them (not all but many) gave back most or all of what they gained in that one big week one way or another. Both before and after.

    It's a fixation. Use the wildcard when it best serves, consider it in its own right, de-couple it in your thinking from any other chip. That's the best advice. And then use the BB and the TC when you best can. A lot of people have already used their TC now (I didn't but that's incidental). For them a GW34 wildcard to get a perfect DGW34 team and shape into a BB in GW37 is obviously going to be a valid idea. Or use it earlier if it suits better (personally I expect to wildcard in GW30). But not GW36. Really not. That's probably the weakest option of them all.

      thing is with decent planning you shpuld be able to get the team you want in 37 for at worst a -16. Lot of point to give away that week for sure but its stoll less than the points youll lose by waiting. Soon as i feel my team needs surgery its getting used

      I liked the post

      And it really isn't prescriptive, so it's tough to argue against.

      One thought I consider in favour of a week before dgw wildcard is that it avoids you spending the preceding weeks buying in players for some relatively distant event.

      Ie it would be a mistake IMO to spend 5 weeks buying players you didn't want for those five weeks, just so they'd be there for dgw. (As opposed to focussing on weekly buying for those GWs the players who are in great form

      Not sure if my explanation is clear as mud...!

        In that case you may be ready for step 2. Forget about playing BB in a DGW. The stress it will cause having to get 15 players for a week like that will cause all kinds of forced decisions.

        If you are only focused on 11 starting players per DGW (not all of which have to be DGW players) then you won't create self-defeating pressures.

        Just find a week where your bench is playable and take 10-15 points for the BB. Others will tell you how they got more in a DGW but they won't tell you what else happened either side (hits, compromises, wasting the wildcard, reduced performance before and after the DGW and so on.)

          I found the dgw WC/BB worked incredibly well for me LAST SEASON, but am staying unbiased this season.

          Will evaluate when I have more data...

            I think it's important to remember this is fun too.

            And part of the fun is messing with workmates' heads.

            Like when they suddenly realise you effectively have 30 players in a GW where they have 12 or 13.

          wont be any hits if we wc in 36 though will there. Also whilst an early wilddcard should never be dismissed out of hand, most will be getting players with the dgw in mind so the same pitfalls are there

            A team of Stanislas, Phillips etc can be achieved through an early wildcard planning for DGWs weeks away.

              This is the best support for not wildcarding early if you plan on using your BB in GW37. You THINK you know who you'll want that week, but injuries, form, the whims of a manager, etc. can really alter things in just a few weeks' time.

      I am thinking of using WC this week, I have no spurs, no chelsea attack and my defense is weak bar Alonso. Players I want from these teams could be at their lowest price now (after today's price changes) so I may be able to maximise the quality players I can afford if I WC now.

    As Mark alluded to in the knee jerk, is anyone playing 3-5-2 with King?

    Surely 3-4-3 is the way to go?

    B) Snoddy -> Dele
    C) Brunt -> Valencia
    D) Snoddy -> Other
