This morning we reveal the qualifiers and the first round draws for both our Fantasy Premier League cup competitions. This follows the qualification rounds which took place in Gameweek 29.

Over in the open-to-all cup, 505 managers join former winners donnellyc, Jonty, Gribude, Mch, Wild Rover and our reigning champion A Manager With No Name, along with myself, in this first knock-out round of the competition, which takes place over Gameweek 30.

The qualifying cut-off score for this cup was a demanding 80 points, with rank deciding entry for those who scored exactly that tally in Gameweek 29; you had to be placed in 4,276th spot or better if you scored 80 points.

A scan of the draw reveals that the current champion will immediately have it all to do if he is to regain the crown; Ranked at 34,806 in the world, “A Manager Has No Name” has been drawn with “Flying Nugget”, an opponent placed some 32,205 places above him in the overall standings.

MCH and Gribude are other former winners that look set to be tested in the opening round. The latter has drawn “themightydave“, a manager currently placed a very respectable 13,095 in the world, while MCH faces an even sterner test, up against the “upthemiddle” who is placed 9,207 in the world.

Meanwhile, the top ranked manager in the tournament – “Hana” who is 47th – is part of a opening round glamour tie: their opponent Ginola 14 is placed 8,439 and will smell a giant killing.

The full first round draw can be found here.

Meanwhile, over in the Members Cup, we have 510 managers joining two former winners in the first round as Fuzzy Dunlop and Trigg gain byes.

The qualifying score was 75 points: you had to be ranked 88,995 or better if you scored that tally.

The full first round draw can be found here.

Billy Ketsu, as the leader of our FFS Members League, is the top ranked manager in the tournament – they are currently placed 39th in the world and in the mix for the FPL crown. Emckay is the unfortunate FPL manager who has the task of facing the high-flyer in the opening round.

Elsewhere, we have to spare a thought for “Fat B*d“. Placed a lofty 3,305 in the world, they have somehow managed to draw higher ranked opponents in both competitions. They will face our very own moderator Spencer – ranked 3166 – in this cup, while over in the open-to-all version, they take on Vice – ranked 2537 in the world.

FFS Cups Round Dates
Qualifying – Gameweek 29

Round 1 – 512 teams – Gameweek 30
Round 2 – 256 teams – Gameweek 31
Round 3 – 128 teams – Gameweek 32
Round 4 – 64 teams – Gameweek 33
Round 5 – 32 teams – Gameweek 34
Round 6 – 16 teams – Gameweek 35
Quarter-Final – 8 teams – Gameweek 36
Semi-Finals – 4 teams – Gameweek 37
Final and third place play-off – 2 teams – Gameweek 38

There is £350 in Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk vouchers up for grabs for the final top three managers in both tournaments.

Good luck to all those involved and if you would like more information on the schedule and prizes click this link.

Tbf, when you get taken off and see boufal has come on in your place id be annoyed too. Seems like he might have got a fine and probably benched this week.

Due to other commitments we've got an early scoutcast planned next week.

Looking at next Monday 9:30pm - with a focus on GWK 31 which kicks off the next evening.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Gameweek 30 looks to be a golden time for differentials, with many of the top teams playing each other and rotation and international fatigue set to play havoc with the team sheets.

At the start of the international break we canvassed views on who will be Gameweek 30's best differential but as the deadline is now just days away I thought I'd revisit this.

Has Tadic's international form persuaded some to go for him?

Or will the Hammers hammer the Tigers?

I fancy another Afobe goal if Yoshida is rested - local derby so Bournemouth will be up for it and Southampton are far more attacking now. Goals in that one.

Has all the makings of a goal fest...although while close in proximity there really isn't too much rivalry between the pair. For the Saints Pompey is and always will be the enemy...Bournemouth a mere after thought.

Maverick move of the week. Turf Moor's a hard place to visit, while BOU vs SOU could be the goalfest as mentioned above. JWP on set pieces, and looks to get 80+ minutes these days. Would only dare it because of having the Spurs double up though. I think Eriksen could outscore Alli, but will probably play the latter because of his high ownership.

Brought him in last night as I just have nagging doubts with Jose re Valencia, I want a fully nailed on defender. Worried Valencia will only get the EL and top 6 games and rest in the games you really want him to play in like Burnley.

I think there are goals in this derby but higher hopes for a cleanie v Palace and Baggies after this - plus the obvious attack threat and maybe the odd set-piece that favours a leftie.

I'm not taking that hit, as tempting as it is. Vardy a good prospect for sure, but not sure this weekend is as great a game as everyone is making out. Liverpool defence is porous and Lukaku is in the best form in the league, and Costa at home vs Palace is a good fixture. -4 not quite worth it for me.

          1. Day off tomorrow has completely thrown me.
          2. No, not too much. They have good fixtures, but I'm slightly against defensive doubles up - just feels like eggs in one basket a bit. I guess you're also going to want Kane when he's back and one of Alli / Eriksen, so the double up may stifle you in a few weeks.

Well my issues you can fix...
        A. Who to play from Baines, Holebas, McAuley or Snod?
        B. Or take a hit to replace (have.4itb).
        C. Kun to Vardy -4? Allowing Snod to Alli next week.
        D. Who to captain?

        Squad below.

        Foster Pickford
        Alonso Holebas Walker Baines McAuley
        Snoddy Siggy Sanchez King Mane
        Llorente Lukaku Kun

        Jaku (Pickford)
        Alonso/Valencia/B Davies (Stephens/Fernandez)
        Alli/Son/King/Sanzhez/Mane
        Lukaku/Vardy/Deeney

I'll be playing 3-4-3 so my question is do I bench Son or King? Son is a decent differential. Janssen potentially ill and won't play so Son should start. He'll also have something to prove after not scoring last GW. King Definitely starts and will be involved in the goals in there are any...Hmmmmmmmm??

To be honest I gave myself the headache. I don't have Vardy yet. I'm definitely getting him in before the deadline (Have Barnes as 3rd Striker atm). I think Vardy will bag some goals but could've done without this decision. It's self inflicted for sure! haha

Pleasantly surprised with the comeback time for Gabbiadini, could be back in midweek.

Austin about a month away. Will they play with two strikers, or do we think they will they be forced to share minutes?

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Share minutes mostly. His system is one big striker and two / three interchangable midfielders for pace in around him.

They'll play both when needing a goal maybe, but wouldn't expect many starts together.

I'd say Gabbi is the main man, Austin will take a while to get starts.

      2. Morph - Unbelievable Geoff
        • 9 Years

Austin and Gabbiadini can both play on the wing, so I'd imagine that they'd play 3/4 from Gab's, Austin, Tadic, Redmond.

You'd think that Gabbiadini and Tadic would start most games, given their recent form, and that Austin would be introduced gradually.

        1. The Tinkerman
          • 10 Years
          8 years, 8 months ago

I know Gab can play behind the striker and on the wing, but didn't realise Austin did. I agree Austin will be gradually eased in, especially if Gab keeps up his form (unlikely, given it's 4 goals in 4 in the PL, but I still think he will do well, just not AS well).

Tadic, Redmond, Gabbiadini would be their first choice front 3 i'd imagine.

I think that he played off the left wing with Redmond as a false 9 in a few games this season, and with Pelle as the #9 last season (you might want to check though).

What's everyone's thoughts on video ref's in football then?

Do you think more goals are called offside which are not (costing us FPL points) or is there more goals scored that are offside?

Interested to see the stats on that. I love points personally and complaining at refferee's 🙂

There will be lots of breaks and especially if they only award goals after consultation with the video ref, it will ruin the spectacle. Also, its harsh on attackers, as they can penalize offside goals, but can't change a scenario when the play has stopped due to the line ref wrongly putting his flag up when the player is through on goal.

It only takes 30 seconds, at least we/media would know the right decision was made and we can talk about football instead of refereeing decisions constantly.

Also, on the second point, I think linesman would probably avoid giving extremely tight decisions and letting them play on, knowing it will be corrected. I don't think that will be an issue really.

Good point. In fact they may be instructed to let the really tight calls go so that the video replays can ensure the correct decision is made. No reason for them to flag unless the attacker is clearly offside.

Once they make the process quicker it will be fine and should be implemented immediately.

The "it shouldn't happen because having debates about wrong decisions is part of football" argument, is probably the biggest load of BS I see continually spouted. It's like saying CCTV footage shouldn't be used in a court of law because mis-carriages of justice are a part of life.

I can't afford Sánchez unless I sell Aguero - I could of course wait until next week, but that would mean playing Carroll this week. I also think the Sánchez/Vardy combination looks far more exciting to be honest - still don't really trust Aguero.

I agree that City will probably win but I also think Sánchez could easily outscore Aguero. Aguero hasn't got double figures since GW13. I also don't want him next week (vs. Chelsea).

The injuries have forced my hand because I was planning these moves for next week - so I agree with you there - but with Antonio and Coleman injured I'm a bit stuck as to what to do otherwise.

If only I hadn't ballsed up the timezone - I was in Norway, paying homage to Josh King (well, the Northern Lights actually) and swapped Coutinho out for Sanchez 45 mins after the deadline. What a chump!

Hmm, my hits were a net positive, but still no joy. The problem is not taking hits, we just need to take BETTER hits. 😉

Thanks guys for organizing it, and out of all the nice British people here, i will be facing a fellow Dutch player.
The positive side is that this guarantees a Dutchie in the next round 😉

Antonio > Eriksen for free a no brainier?

Would also like Vardy for Llorente -4 but not enough ITB after the Eriksen transfer.

      Jaku
      Alonso Walker Baines
      San(c)hez Mane Siggy Antonio
      Lukaku Defoe Llorente

(Grant FM De Roon Amat) 4m ITB

      Good to go?

Stones > Valencia already done on a FT.

      Heaton

      Alonso – Baines – Valencia

      Hazard – Firmino – Siggy – King

      Lukaku – Vardy (C) – Carroll

Bench: Foster; De Roon; Maguire; Smith

Anything else worth a hit or save?

Hazard > Sanchez next week probably.

Not sure how much clarity you are going to get as this will be Woodgate's first match in charge - who knows what his preferences are...
