After teasing us with a list of player prices and the revelation of a new Free Hit chip over the last few days, Fantasy Premier League has finally opened for registration ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Launched a week earlier than last year’s July 19 date, we now have 30 days to assemble our 15-man squads before Arsenal and Leicester City get Gameweek 1 underway on Friday August 11.

A quick look at the Player Price list shows that Harry Kane and Alexis Sanchez are the priciest players on offer at £12.5m and £12.0m.

Kane’s average of 7.5 points per match (ppm) was more than any FPL regular last term, while Sanchez – who remains a midfielder – clocked up 6.9 ppm on his way to topping the charts with 264 points.

Last year’s most expensive player, Sergio Aguero drops from £13.0m to £11.5m – the same as Romelu Lukaku – with Manchester City team-mate Gabriel Jesus offering a cheaper alternative at £10.5m.

Meanwhile, City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne is one of just three midfielders priced in double-figures. The Belgian comes in at £10.0m on the back of 21 assists in 2016/17, with Chelsea’s Eden Hazard listed at £10.5m.

As we discovered yesterday, Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is now re-classified as a forward – at £8.5m, he offers a cheaper route into the Reds’ attack than midfield trio Sadio Mane (£9.5m), Philippe Coutinho and Mo Salah (both £9.0m).

At the back, Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso is the most expensive defender in the game – the wing-back comes in at £7.0m after averaging 5.7 ppm in his first season at the Bridge.

As always, we’ll roll out a series of Player Price List articles over the next few days, breaking them down by classification and cost.

In the meantime, enjoy delving in and getting those opening squads built.

      Absolutely. He's an incredible defender.

Dominates in the air, aggressive, reads the game well, great acceleration and passing.

    Stuck between my big hitters

    a) Aguero, Firmino, Alli, Sanchez

    or

    b) Kane, Lacazette, De Bruyne, Mane

I'm more concerned that he's likely to be playing deeper than anything. They will want a strong start in the league so not concerned about rotation this early on.

      Has to be Mane.

Firm takes up fwd slot so no use and Salah/Mane push cout back

Mane wins. MF in RF/LF position.

    And so it begins...
I have picked my starting team. Now i will read articles and change a player or two, look at RMT's a little and maybe change another player or two. Look at pre-season game results and change a player pr two. Decide that my team has lost its shape and delete it all and start again, having forgotten who half my starting team were and repeat at least once a week. Then throw it all away and start again after the first scoutcast and then WC in GW3 because my team is shite.

Why? Back on to the left wing but now with a striker who is probably worse for him. Lacazette is far more explosive than Giroud. Giroud would drop deep and hold up the play allowing space for Sanchez to take advantage of. At 12m, I'm not liking his prospects at all.

I have a title defence to mount and am weighing up if I should stick with the big forward names which basically won in for me last year, as the general squad balance suffers:

    -----------------------Mignolet -- Foster----------------------
    ------Zabaleta--McAuley--Ake--Holgate--Pieters-------
    -------------------Firmino--Lukaku--Kane-------------------
