Next up in our summer series of team-by-team analysis of the 2016/17 campaign are Manchester City.

We start by checking out the team performance levels over the previous campaign to look for any trends of improvement before assessing the Citizens’ standout individuals ahead of the 2017/18 season.

The arrival of Pep Guardiola helped the Etihad side up their points total from 66 to 78 last term, yet they finished some 15 points off the summit for the second successive campaign, claiming third position in the Spaniard’s first year in charge.

City also improved their goal tally, from 71 to 80, which was again the third best on offer, six behind Spurs at the summit.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I'd go Foster /Myhill in nets and save a few bob to maybe upgrade Redmond. Also, I personally will only go with one of Kane or Alli. But again, thats me.

A tiny amount. Hart has smashed our wage structure, and getting a lot more than Adrián, who is a much, much better keeper.

So is the general consensus that Alli is a better pick than Eriksen? I'm currently on Eriksen but most people seem to have Alli, particularly as I'm going without Kane (Lots of avoiding watching Spurs games I know!) I feel Eriksen is slightly "safer" with set pieces... unless I'm being naive!

    1. Duffy Dunk
      • 9 Years

It's very close between these 2, I initially had Alli but turned him to Eriksen for the same reason as you

Alli is the goalscorer, Eriksen more involved. It'll be close as always.

Seems that way. I think I would still go for Eriksen if I were getting one, though I might change my mind if I thought hard about it.

I think I'm just contrary. I got Alli earlier last season when more people were on Erik, saying that obviously goals are better than assist. Then I move to Eriksen towards the end of the season when more people were going Alli. At that point Eriksen maybe slightly outscored Alli which was pleasing, but both ways feel like a risk.

      So I'm going with neither....

      1. Big4FPL

Going with neither is bold, guessing you must own Kane then?

I am, but that's unrelated to Eriksen and Alli. Not sure why you'd think one determines the other! 😛 Could still go with Kaku, but I do like Kane - which is why I have him.

GK and Defenders options with Rotation:

Just been looking at options with GK's and Defenders and thought i would share.

Foster (4.5m) /Fabianski (4.5m) offers a perfect Home/Away rotation through the season- but just looking at the first 9 games it gives you a pretty decent HOME Gk option as below:

Bmouth United* Stoke Newcastle Wham Watford Watford H'field Leicter

    * could play WBA away at Burnley

Most players have 2 anchor defenders ( assume will play every week) such as Cedric/Lindelof/ trippier/ Monreal/Walker etc... (premium defenders) so finding a good 3rd and 4th defender who rotate well for me is important.

Having looked at the fixtures for the 1st 10 weeks I have noticed that Burnely's Home games are extremely appealing and would certainly look to have coverage which rotates with defender 3 and 4.

    Burnley in gw 2 4 6 8 10 at HOME play:
WBA Palace Hfield W ham Newcastle ( if last seasons home form is anything to go by then a 4.5m Burnley defender in these weeks could be of great return early on.

We know Chelsea rotate with Burnley but Chelsea defenders come at a premium so looking at the 1st few weeks the team which rotates well in game weeks 1 3 5 ( Budget defender) would have to be Palace... ( for those who usually WC early not a bad option:

Palace in Gw 1 3 5 7 at HOME play:
    h'field Swansea Shamtpon

This would give you HOME fixtures for your 3rd Defender of:
WBA Hfield Palace Swansea Hfield Southamtpon W ham... Newcastle.

    Hope this helps!

Been crunching some numbers to come up with an ideal GK/DEF setup for the first 3 weeks of the season (I usually WC afterwards anyway) within my usual (low) budget in that area, and have ended up with:

    Lossl / Coleman (non-playing)
    Lindelof / Bertrand(Cedric) / Dawson / Ake / Cranie (non-playing)

Assuming playing 3 at the back, this gives a first 3 week fixture run of:

    cry, WHU, SWA, BOU
    NEW, WHU, WAT, swa
    SOT, LEI, STK, hud

with the attacking threats that at least Bertrand, Dawson and Ake undoubtedly bring,

    for a price of £33/33.5m.

PS: Just seen the post above me by Gaurava, that also looks a cracking option!

The attacking prowess of Ake is questionable, he hangs back as others go forward he only gets in the opposition box for set pieces and given he is short its surpirsing he actually gets hold of the ball to score. He is good tho I do rate Ake

Thanks, mate. I would be glad too, if I were you. 🙂

      We might be relegated, now.

Hold your horses there mate you've still got a solid squad on paper, Bilic needs to address the weaknesses and improve tactically. You're not as bad as Huddersfield, Brighton, Burnley...

Team spirit. Adrián and Noble have always been the heartbeat of the team, and kept us together when Payet started his shitstirring. That has all gone, now, tossed away like an old glove.

R u joking? I thought City just didnt want to sell or were playing hard ball. If Kelechi is for sale West Hame should do everyhting they can to get him. I support Spurs and I would love him to sign at Spurs as back up to Kane

Eriksen or KDB? Try to ignore the 0.5 mil difference. Tough one!

KDB for me especially with Kane in forward line.
