As promised, Fantasy Premier League Draft has been released and is now available.

The new game is free to play and runs in parallel with, and as an addition to, “traditional” FPL. If you’re registered for that game, you can immediately get involved with Draft.

The links don’t end there. The Draft uses the same scoring system as FPL with only one exception – there are no captains or vice captains.

The first step is to create or join a league.

Private leagues can include up to 16 managers, although the game itself states that eight is the recommended number. That is the limit for public leagues – you can enter those with random members of the FPL Draft community.

Like the traditional FPL game, leagues can run in the classic form or in the head-to-head format.

The key selling point of Draft is that, within a league, each 15-man squad is unique. So only one team in each league can own Harry Kane or Romelu Lukaku.

The draft system used is described as a “Snake Draft”, where managers take it in turns to select players until a squad is complete over 15 rounds. There is no budget or player prices.

League administrators can set a draft date and time for private leagues, while public league drafts begin 24 hours after the first team joins.

You can build a Watchlist before the draft, and this can act both as a shortlist of players you’re coveting and also a list to govern your automatic picks should you be “away from keyboard”.

Things get really interesting when we start dealing with transfers after the draft is complete. Bear with us on this.

Transfers, or “Transactions”, are made in two ways – managers can make what is called “Waiver Requests” or they can dip into the Free Agent pool.

After the draft, all the remaining players are up for grabs but, initially, only through waivers.

These operate like transfer requests from managers who propose both the player they want and the player being swapped out.

A weekly deadline is set for waivers to take place and, when that is reached, they operate a lot like the draft.

Indeed, before the season starts, managers get their first waiver requests granted in the reverse order of the draft. So if you went last in the draft in Round 1, you will be the first to get your waiver request processed.

However, once you have succeeded with a Waiver, you go to the back of the queue.

Things change when the season starts, with the waivers granted in reverse order of the league table. So if you’re bottom, your waiver will be granted first to give you the best opportunity to strengthen your team.

Players that are free agents become available once all the waiver requests are made. These consist of players remaining in the pool and players that were released by other managers in the previous Gameweek.

Managers can draw from the free agent pool 24 hours before the Gameweek deadline and it’s on a first come, first served basis.

There are no direct trades between managers.

That, I think, provides a summary of how the transfer system works. However, it is somewhat difficult to explain, and further examination of the rules may reveal other mechanics missed or misinterpreted.

Fantasy Premier League have published an FAQ on the Draft game, and the full rule set is available here.

In addition, community writer and experienced draft campaigner Pav A Nice Day has already published two essential articles. His tips for success was followed today with his own draft rankings to help shape your personal Watchlist.

We will certainly be playing FPL Draft this season. Will you? Vote in our poll on the homepage, or via your slide-in menu on mobile, and let us know.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Settled on the core of my team now but tinkering has brought up a few tough decisions I'm swayed about, so will ask for second opinions. Which team do you prefer Team A or Team B? (differences are marked with an asterisk)

    Team A - Begovic
    Cedric Daniels Trippier
    KDB Ritchie *Salah *Ince
    Kane Lukaku *Defoe

Subs - Elliott Lascelles T.Carroll *Long (Bur)

In summary, classic 3-4-3, able to catch more bandwagons due to 2x6m mids

    Team B - Begovic
    Cedric Daniels Trippier *Naughton
    KDB Ritchie *Alli
    Kane Lukaku *Firmino

Subs - Elliott Lascelles T.Carroll *Chalobah

In summary, different 4-3-3, able to get Alli & KDB in as well a Liverpool option but slightly less able to catch bandwagons.

            It looks pretty good.

I don't think Iwobi will start though. Who does he replace in the 3421, Ozil or Alexis?

Also Dunk has 4 red cards and 25 yellows in just 3 years. He also plays for Brighton. I know he scored 1 goal in 48 games last season, but I personally don't think he's worth it for that epic goal-scoring rate 😀

Lindelof is ? for me atm, until more pre-season is done.

I thought so, but he's been pretty crap in pre-season so far. Smalling has looked good, then there's Rojo, Jones and Blind.

Lindelof is still young, and playing for United is scary. He may need a bit of time.

I'd rather go all the way to 4.5 and pick someone like RLC or Carroll.

Or... go cheap and play an extra 5.5 defender.

We struggle when we don't have pace on the pitch, so I feel Salah and Mane if fit are nailed, Coutinho may be rotated as he regularly got subbed off early last season but that could be argued to be due to his poor run of form

I think problem with liverpool is they'll share the goals and assists around the team. Having said that I think coutinho is still progressing and could be awesome this year.

Hi - just toying with my team:

    any thoughts on this?

    Foster Elliot
    Trippier Cedric Daniels Dunk Mee
    Alli Willian Pogba Redmond Loftus-Cheek
    Jesus Lukaku Firmino (1m ITB)

    Redmond > Zaha/Lanzini?

    - having Alli over Kane gives me a better balance.

    FPL draft experience
I like trying new things out
So just completed a draft at invitation of a poster here
    (I am a veteran of drafts )
    - bit fiddly to get on this part of site
    -It was quick
    - you need to have ready a watchlist of players you like
    - clear enough to complete on a phone
    - does have a chat facility
    - good up to date list of players(some other draft platforms are not always up to date.
    - managers in chat room openly said that this was a trial run for them

Yo mofos. I've been tweaking, and I'd like to run this past you lot.

My plan is to squeeze every last drop out of my first 11. I plan on playing 4-2-2, and I want to cover the big teams and good fixtures

    Foster / Elliot
    Alonso / Bellerin / Bertrand / Daniels / 4.0
    Kdb / Eriksen / Mhiktaryan / T Caroll / RLC
    Lukaku / Aguero / 4.5

I know the subs are shit. But with my strong 11, targeting the first 4 - 6 Gameweek, I think it looks tasty. My thoughts on the personnel to get the job done?

Well my 1st experience of Draft FPL was interesting.

Looking like a 4-5-1 as I decided to concentrate on my Midfield while others panicked over getting forwards. Ended up with

    Enderson (Bravo)
    Luiz Vertonghen Cedric Blind (Kelly)
    Alli Sane William Redmond Phillips
    Ayew (Welbeck Perez)

Ouch. You didn't go forwards early?

      1. RubberDucky
        9 years, 15 days ago

        No Mark

Everybody scrambled for the same 4/5 fwds then rushed on their 1st draft pick as only had 60 secs to pick.

Getting 2 decent mids for 1 safer fwd. seems like playing the odds.

        What is your tactic?

Got to go a forward first. Then another and perhaps another. Leave defence alone. Forward, Forward, Forward/Mid are my first three picks for sure.

          1. RubberDucky
            9 years, 15 days ago

ah yeah but when your the 12th pick like I was, there was nothing work wasting my 1st and 2nd draft on.

            GW2 could be a different story/tactic altogether

I like the Alli and Sane start.

I presume Willian was your 3rd round pick? What strikers were available at that point?

        1. RubberDucky
          9 years, 15 days ago

There really was very little 12 team league and I was last pick round 1.

Had to concentrate on my midfield, as would of fallen behind in every department if I was always chasing

Ah makes sense, I'm not convinced the draft game works as well for football with larger 12 person leagues because there just aren't that many strikers in the league.

And the point of fantasy is to not have to pick absolute rubbish players just because they were all that were left there. You're supposed to want to watch players you normally wouldn't and support them.

            1. RubberDucky
              9 years, 15 days ago

Ah but at the same time its the challenge to find the diamond in the rough, having a Plan B,C,D and F and only having 60 secs to choose your draft.

I was actually a lot of fun

      2. RubberDucky
        9 years, 15 days ago

I feel I have a better chance over 1 GW for getting more points with more probable clean sheets and big hitting midfielders than putting all my hope on a big forward.

I was last draft pick first round so was 1st 2nd round and felt safer getting my midfielders sorted rather than playing 2nd fiddle in every position

I like the idea of going against the grain, zigging when everyone zags.

But Ayew, Welbeck and Perez are all bench fodder right? Like, at least get some strikers who turn up right?

RMT? Playing 3-4-3 with 0.0 ITB:

    Heaton / Foster
    Trippier / Ake / Cedric / Dunk / Hefele
    Alli / Sane / Willian / Tadic / Carroll
    Lukaku / Lacazette / Defoe

Heaton and Foster rotate really well so happy with that combination. Heaton should be a season keeper.

Am I missing that one amazing premium defender? Or could I look at upgrading Hefele (downgrading Tadic?) and playing 4 at the back?

Couple of difficult 50/50s - Ake or Daniels? Tadic or Redmond?

I was still all in on Sanchez up until today, had him as my number 2 overall pick. But this PSG news seems real.

He's falling down my rankings, probably gonna end up around the 15 mark in a couple days unless Man City get involved and bid for him, then he goes back up. The upside is so great, you can't take him off the board completely

      looks good 9/10.

Similar to mine. The only problem is lack to flexible funds in midfield ie: you have 10m,7m,7m,7m,4.5m.
makes it difficult to get other form players. KDB > Sane may help.

I have and alternative team in:
      Foster Elliot
      Trippier Cedric Daniels Dunk Mee
      Alli Willian Pogba Redmond Loftus-Cheek
Jesus Lukaku Firmino + 1m ITB for upgrades.

Cheers mate... the one thing I like is there are all 100% nailed on and great fixtures ... it is flexible in this regard but so see your point.
        RLC Doesn't look nailed on.
Pogba looks like too much of a defensive mid
        Redmond is inconsistent
Firmino may get limited by early week play in games for CL
BUT that is a 9/10 too... have to see more preseason...

I can see why everyone is ignoring Sanchez.

It's not like he was the leading points scorer in FPL.

It's not like Wenger has univocally said he is staying.

Best keep some money ITB, folks. If he gets a brace against Leicester (which Jonty has predicted will be a high scoring game), you'll be taking at least one hit to get him in.

    Guys...

Anyone going to put Milner in day 1? Could be the buy of season....now he is classed as a defender!

I'm going to wait till Liverpool's fixtures get better, but if he is still on set pieces and pens....all it takes is for Liverpool to keep a few clean sheets and he will have big points.

Also, anyone thinking of putting a Chelsea midfielder in? I still think Fabs could be great buy at 7.0M if he starts...matic dependant I guess?

In chrome it wasnt responsive at all.

Could see my turn to draft was coming up next, I wait, and nothing, no auto update, I need to manually refresh the browser, and eventually i have a chance on my turn to draft someone, but I cant do anything, the draft button is unlocked, but it does nothing when i click on it.

Joke so far, I just keep getting the top draft rank player, going great so far!

Hazard, Mahrez, Costa, Giroud lol - 1 injured and 3 likely to be sold!

Update - I reopened in IE, and it seems to be working fine, so looks like issue is only on Chrome, but prob too late for my first draft league to be saved

Not sure what just happened but the priorities in my watchlist all just got cleared... screen refreshed (seemingly) at random and players back to default positions. An hour of ordering players lost. Firefox. Team deleted in frustration 🙁

When I try to create the league on Chrome, it says invalid as Asia/Calcutta is not a valid time zone...
Same thing I try on Mozilla, it works fine, only difference is, the option for time zone is Asia/Kolkata (and not Calcutta).
      Please look into this.
It works fine when i try to edit league in Chrome after creating in Mozilla, since it shows Kolkata again in Chrome.

In nutshell, the problem is only when creating a league in Chrome, since it shows 'Calcutta'....

Hi, Mark. I already created watchlist until 101 players.

But when I refresh page or go to another page then back again, my 100th and 101st player watchlisted (before re-order their rank to 70+) back to original position. Which is frustrating.

I already tried different method to re-order them.
by inputting number and enter, dragging too, and click the arrow before tap enter.

But it's still back to original.

I think we need save/confirm feature to make it sure.

      Ty Mark

      Mark.

Would an email alert for a 5 minute warning when your draft is about to start be really useful?

      Just a thought.

It would. Not 5 mins though but maybe an hour ir so before

          Let's meet halfway

I would still forget with an hour to go.

30 mins would be long enough.

If I still forget I would need to lay off whatever I'm drinking

      Hi Mark.

I just wanted to suggest some additions to FPL draft. Trade options added and a way for the league admin in private leagues to set the draft order. If not for this season possibly next season?

      Thanks

      @Mark

Joined a draft league max 8 teams then "annoyingly" 16 had entered when it started 🙁

If you enter into a public draft league, and someone quits prior to the draft commencing, leaving you with less than 8 entrants, a replacement is not automatically found, and the draft will be set back 48hrs. League code 5236.

Hi Mark, is there an option to use the same watchlist for multiple draft leagues?

I had created a watchlist with 100+ players for a league but was unable to use the same for another league. Thanks

I couldn't believe that I had to create a new watchlist all over again for the next league I wanted to enter.

Micky is looking amazing atm, so will get a higher ppg. But I think long-term over a whole season you'd want someone who plays every game, like Pogba.

But I'm terrible at draft leagues.

Pogba if doing the draft this or next week. He is nailed, whereas Miki has questions surrounding him.

Pogba's gonna have the minutes but Mkhi's gonna be more attacking and get more goals/assists per games.

By a hair I'll go Mkhi for the upside but I could cave in a draft and go for the safer pick

Slim pickings at that price. Cant see him getting much playing time but Pool will rotate quite a lot this week. Swanseas Ayew would be my pick at 5.0. Or just go for a non playing 4.5.

Is it just me, or is there something seriously wrong with the draft? I joined a league to see what was going on with it, and the draft has just started, and I cannot pick anyone I want, its so laggy.

And it says my turn to draft is next, I wait, and nothing, no auto update, I need to manually refresh the browser, and eventually i have a chance on my turn to draft someone, but I cant do anything, the draft button is unlocked, but it does nothing when i click on it.

Joke so far, I just keep getting the top draft rank player, going great so far!

Hazard, Mahrez, Costa, Giroud lol - 1 injured and 3 likely to be sold!
