Next up in our summer series of members’ articles, offering in-depth team-by-team analysis are Southampton. A side that carry extra significance ahead of the new campaign given their exceptionally kind early fixtures.

To get underway, we’ll analyse performance at a team level and attempt to spot trends or improvements. We then delve into the player data, analysing the key individuals as we scour for potential targets ahead of next month’s Gameweek 1 deadline.

In addition, we’ll also focus on any specific periods of interest brought about by tactical changes or breakout Fantasy performances – in this case we’ll focus on the Saints’ home/away displays, investigating a trend that saw them score just 17 goals in front of their own supporters.

Southampton finished in sixth spot under Ronald Koeman back in 2015/16 – a total of 63 points was just three points behind Manchester City in fourth. But the Dutchman’s decision to move to Everton proved detrimental to their prospects, with replacement Claude Puel struggling to maintain those standards.

Despite claiming eight place, Southampton bagged just 46 points and found the net on 41 occasions – a tally that bettered only the bottom five and well behind the 59 strikes under Koeman.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Is Zaha the best choice at 8m and below?

    1) Zaha & KDB

    or

    2) Alli & Sane?

Anyone going Elliott and a 4.0? Looks like he's first choice, as Darlow was omitted from the squad yesterday. Could be the new Jaku or Pickford.

Interesting. If I go for a 4.5 I'll certainly go for one of the first two.

A 4.0 keeper is gold though. That 0.5 extra can do wonders. Like upgrade my nonplaying 3rd sub LOL.

Saw this on Reddit from a Bournemouth fan so it may be of use to solving the 4.5 midfielder conundrum:

"Lewis Cook (4.5 mid) got 2 assists in 4 appearances last season. Only started towards the end of the season but he's looked incredibly promising and his cutting through balls to the attacking players are fantastic. Not 100% nailed because of competition from Gosling but it's looking increasingly likely he'll start for us."

He was also captain in the U-20 FIFA World Cup for England this summer which they won and got 1 goal & 1 assist.

Right, I've swung back around to the old reliable ( 3-4-3) so would appreciate a few opinions however harsh.......

    Foster (Elliot)

    Alonso, Trippier, Cedric (Francis, Hune)

    Eriksen, Willian, Lanzini, Tadic (Carroll)

    Kane, Lukaku, Austin

Thinking on Lanzini and the 2 Saints boys is that both West Ham and Southampton scored more on the road last season than at home - so only taking into account the teams they're going up against.

    1. Wrong Captain Again
      • 9 Years

Redmond over tadic, lanzini has horrid fixtures early so Ramsey is probably better at this stage. Bit of a game time risk with austin I personally went Rodriguez but looks good otherwise

How do price fluctuations work once we get going?

If 50% of people own Lukaku for week1 is he likely to increase after week 1 - or is it harder for him to increase because so many people own him and therefore more likely for him to decrease?

When Siggy leaves does Carroll become a viable 4th mid?

Will be nailed on and will now take set pieces and corners and maybe even pens.

What do you guys think of Scheniderlein?
Could he be a surprising player this season? he's bit a bit forgotten but he is capable of great offensive returns and will probably play a more important role this season for everton.

He is not capable of any offensive returns, let alone great ones

Little Pea walks straight in at 7MM.

I've now got so excited about mid price mids (Willian, Phillips, Ramsey in particular) that I'm struggling to spend the full whack 😉
