Next up in our summer series of members’ articles, we move to focus on one of the key sources of Fantasy talent – Tottenham Hotspur.

We start by analysing their performance on a team level, assessing last season’s data in order to spot trends and areas improvement. Following that, we drill down into the player data, pinpointing the key individuals.

For this article, we also focus on two specific points of interest for Fantasy managers – assessing the Dele Alli versus Christian Eriksen conundrum, while weighing up the allure of Harry Kane as a “fire and forget” captaincy option.

It’s fair to say that Mauricio Pochettino’s side showed their mettle last season after a disastrous end to 2015/16 saw them pick up two points in the final four fixtures and tumble out of the title race.

Spurs improved their points haul from 70 to 86 and also scored far more goals than beforehand – a total of 86 was far superior to 69 in the previous campaign and more than any team in the top-flight.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

This is how you counter attack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13uDn-XiOyE

It's a lethal tool to have in your locker. These are United goal-conversion stats last season:

    Goal-conversion (Overall): 9.1%
    Goal-conversion (On the counter): 36.4%
    Number of counter-attacks: 11

As you can see, shots taken from a counter-attack are far more likely to result in a goal. Leicester 15/16, and Chelsea 16/17 were both incredibly effective at counter-attacking, so it's no surprise they won the league in those seasons. Chelsea, in comparison, had 24 counter-attacks last season, scoring 29.2% of them.

With Ibra and Rooney gone we should expect more counter attacks this season - especially with a CB capable of terrific long-balls in Lindelof.

We should also expect both those percentages to rise, given the personnel recruited - particularly Lukaku.

Whereas Pogba plays every game, Mhiki has to give way to Mata, Rashford, Martial, Lingard from time to time.

I've got him in my team though over Pogba

This is my issue. In the game linked above he was playing up front with Kaku in a 352. But Rashford and Martial could play.

In a 433 he has Mata, Lingard, Martial and Rashford as competition. They're bound to get games at some point.

I think I'll start with Pogba. It's an easy to switch to Mkhy if he is looking nailed.

Pogba has also been looking terrific, and has hit the woodwork a few times in pre-season already. Surely it's only a matter of time 😆

What if you're in a draft league? Gamble on mkhi or play it safe with Pogba?

In a draft I'd rather Pogba. Your team is more permanent and there aren't auto-subs are there? At least you know you'll get 38 ish games from him
(I'm not good at draft games though)

Yeah stuck with the same 15 players all season.
I agree, nailed players are so valuable, I just love the look of mkhi. To much of a gamble unless he's still available like 10th round pick?

Seems to be coming down to this. Best side A or B?

    Team A

    Foster
    Trippier Cedric Kolasinac Danilo
    Alli Mane Willian Zaha
    Lukaku Jesus

    Elliot Abraham Carroll Suttner

    Team B

    As A but

    Jesus to Kane
    Alli to KDB
    Zaha to RLC

Going Lukaku myself. Had both but rest of team suffered. Spurs not been great pre-season. Wembley coukd be a tough environment for them to play.

      None
Still too expensive and they have a decent striker now to steal points from him

The idea of having him as a diferrential is very tempting though...

Serious surgery required to get him if you set up your team without...

For me and probably many other I have this dilemma:
Going without Kane or not and maybe cover Spurs by Alli/Eriksen.

I have below compared going Kane vs. Kane-less by covering with Alli/Kane (same PPM last year).

Alli and Jesus vs. Zaha and Kane

Taking last year's PPM into consideration:

    Alli (6.1) + Jesus (6.7) = 12.8
    Zaha (4.3) + Kane (7.5) = 11.8

But if having Kane I would most of the matches captain him. If not I would captain Lukaku who I have in the team regardless I have Kane or not. So taking this into consideration:

    Alli (6.1) + Jesus (6.7) +
    Captain Lukaku (6*2) = 24.8

    Zaha (4.3) + captain Kane (7.5*2) + Lukaku (6) = 25.3

I know that Jesus PPM could be biased due to not so many minutes (but that would lead to even lower PPM). I know that I wouldn't captain Kane or Lukaku every week, but these simple calculations shows only small differences between Kane vs. Non-Kane. So maybe I shouldn't be so afraid of going without Kane or maybe Jesus' PPM last year will not continue and Kane + Zaha after all is a better duo?
