Next up in our summer series of members’ articles, we move to focus on one of the key sources of Fantasy talent – Tottenham Hotspur.

We start by analysing their performance on a team level, assessing last season’s data in order to spot trends and areas improvement. Following that, we drill down into the player data, pinpointing the key individuals.

For this article, we also focus on two specific points of interest for Fantasy managers – assessing the Dele Alli versus Christian Eriksen conundrum, while weighing up the allure of Harry Kane as a “fire and forget” captaincy option.

It’s fair to say that Mauricio Pochettino’s side showed their mettle last season after a disastrous end to 2015/16 saw them pick up two points in the final four fixtures and tumble out of the title race.

Spurs improved their points haul from 70 to 86 and also scored far more goals than beforehand – a total of 86 was far superior to 69 in the previous campaign and more than any team in the top-flight.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    De Gea
    Trippier Dawson Kompany Alonso
    Willian Eriksen Salah
    Jesus Lukaku Austin
    Myhill Carroll Romeu Hünemeier

Should I keep Austin or go 442 is what I basically meant on my previous post?
Also should I keep Dawson or get someone else in as he is a doubt?

Is JRod more nailed than any other striker under 6.5 or worth finding extra.5 for Austin?

In other words JRod or Austin

Dann has proven that he has goals in him.

Definitely has goals in him but will FDB keep it tight at the back? I don't think so personally. I can definitely see Palace struggling to adapt to his tactics/style in general. Don't believe they have enough technical quality to play that total football inspired type of game.

Does anyone actually care who's on their bench? Are you going for fodder all the way, or are you factoring in rotation options?

    I'm on the former:

    - 4.0 keeper
    - 2x 4.5 playing mids (decent 2pt cover)
    - fodder 4.0 defender or a 4.5 mid/fwd

See a lot of replies to RMTS commenting on weak benches - surely if you've got gk cover and a couple of guys who should get a couple of points if required, you'll be just fine? Divert funds to XI

you need a bench in case of rotation or injuries

At the start of the season, I try to pick 11 starters that are nailed on as possible, which is somewhat difficult given limited info before the year starts. I then usually go for two subs that start for their teams at the cheapest possible price (probably 4.5 this year) and then a 4.0 backup goalie and defender as fodder (don't care if they start or not).

My thought is I want my money spent on my starters. Only once last year did I need more than one sub to come on for me in a single gameweek.

As the year goes on and I build TV, I usually try to have one backup that could reasonably contribute if they have to come in or I use that spot to hop on/off bandwagons to build more TV.

Depends on the formation but you should atleast be able to cover any position in case someone in that position doesnt play. So if you are playing 3 at the back you really should try and get a nailed on defender as cover because a playing 4.5 mid cant cover a missing defender as u have to have atleast 3 defenders at a given time. A playing 4.5 mid can normally cover a no show in MF or FW position. its normally easier to find a 4.5 playing mid than a 4.0 DF or 4.5 FW. Occasionally a 4.0 GK emerges (Looks to be Elliot in this seasons case).

      1. OldBenKenobi
        • 9 Years

for example im planning on 3-4-3 formation so my bench comprises of

        4.0GK
        4.5DF and 4.0(fodder)
        4.5MF

If you are planning to wildcard early, say in GW 6, then it's a risky but still viable strategy. If the big hitters you can afford thanks to bench fodder savings really deliver the points (and this is the risk), then you could find yourself in a great position. But if they don't deliver and some also get injured then you can find yourself in a real mess very quickly.

Hi....so I'm playing a draft game with my mates.

I won't be able to take part in the draft so need to choose players via the watchlist.

Are there any tips on what to do? Not planning to play it with anywhere near the same level of intensity as fpl.

Currently got all the wingbacks as my preferred options....thanks

      Strikers

    2. The Sherwinator
      • 9 Years

Focus on your strikers and midfielders first. Teams would often play with one striker and the second one won't always be as good when they're playing with 2. You have more options in midfield when it comes to attacking options. After midfield I'd go for a good keeper. Defenders I'll look at last. You can make changes to your team every week, and there's usually 4-5 defenders. So just pick defenders from teams with good fixtures each time. What I'm advising is from memory, an article was posted giving advice

I’ve also decided to go 4-4-2 (I assume that’s what you meant), but opted for a 5.0 striker in Mitrovic since he seems likely to get some game time in contrast to the £4.5 options.

Your team looks good. I would’ve tried to squeeze in Salah or Mané for Pogba—but I know that’s difficult with Kane in the team (I’ve picked Jesus instead).

Will he be nailed? Vardy + 1 from OKazaki Slimani Ulloa and now Nacho

      One to monitor.

Let's see if he can nail down a starting spot.

He is in a team more suited to his style and talent. Will be backup unfortunately

At £25m, surely he's a starter for Leicester. Interesting to see what happens to Vardy

Champs Lge draw today? Be interesting to see who Liverpool get... do you think Mané/Coutinho are able for all 5 games below? I presume Klopp will rest for the PL games rather than CL games, as they lose on £m's if they don't qualify:

    12th. wat
    15th/16th. CL
    19th. CPL
    22/23rd. CL
    27th. ARS

I think they will try to score big in the first game with their full squad so that their players get a week's preparation for the Arsenal match.

They will surely be a bit jaded by the arsenal game, particularly if the second CL leg is away... just not sure whether it will really affect them or not. I'd be ok going with no Liverpool until later if this is the case

It's all guess work right now. I'm going with Salah and we'll see what happens.

(With some nailness and potential attacking returns)

So do we reckon Hegazi is nailed? Really could use that 0.5
