Update Four is now live, introducing heatmaps as a major new feature, along with another round of tweaks and improvements.

Once again Matz1lla has done us proud with his efforts, as we continue to work at enhancing the site and tools on offer.

Here’s what’s included in this update:

Team and Player Heatmaps
As mentioned in our preview article, we’ve tried to go the extra mile with our heatmaps feature.

I always wanted to ensure that, when these were included in our members’ area, they would work with the ability to slice the Opta data by intervals – eg Gameweeks, matches, home and away etc.

Implemented in this way, they suddenly become more effective as a method of analysing player and team performance, not just in a single match, but in a group of fixtures or over the entire season.

So heatmaps can now be found in player and team profiles and in the player and team comparison tools.

You can also get them in the match dashboard, to view traditional team or single player maps for a particular fixture.

We’ve added maps for the following statistics:

Touches
Passes Received
Shots
Chances Created
Recoveries
Challenges Lost
Successful Take ons
Failed Take ons
Goal Attempts Conceded (teams only)
Chances Created Conceded (teams only)
Fouls Conceded (teams only)

Hazard vs Pedro – Touches – 2016/17 All Matches
members

The preview movie below shows the heatmaps in action and the options and possibilities available.

Heatmaps Preview Movie

If you’ve any feedback on the maps or have any requests on other statistics you would like to see mapped, please get in touch via support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

Bonus Points System additions
Having added the Baseline Bonus Points System statistics in Update Three, we’ve tweaked this further and implemented the statistics to both the player profiles and player comparison tools.

Baseline BPS is now included as a key statistic when comparing players.

Fantasy Goal Involvement
We’ve always included the goal involvement statistic.

This measured a player’s contribution in terms of goals scored or assisted as a percentage of his team’s goals scored when he was on the pitch.

We’ve now expanded this to offer a new statistic, which takes into account Fantasy assists. This is now found on the player statistic Involvement tables.

What’s coming next?
We’re looking to add Fantasy Premier League prices to our database in order to surface these in our profiles and player tables. The aim is to introduce the ability to filter tables by these prices.

We will then move to include Sky Sports prices in their tables and also build Yahoo Daily Fantasy tables, which will hopefully include player prices for the forthcoming contests.

Expected goals remains a background task as we continue to research and explore options for our model.

Once the season begins, we will also start to address improvements away from the Members’ area and, in particular, look at our HomeCrowd comments system.

You can see our current task list and track our progress through the next update via this roadmap.

You can also send your feedback and requests to me at mark@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

Our previous updates are detailed here, here and here.

A reminder that, if you want access to this forthcoming update and other future additions to the members’ area, you can sign up for the new campaign now for our pre-season price of £12.50 (RRP £15.00).

Existing registered users can upgrade via this link. New users, who are yet to get a registered account, can sign up via this link.

If you’re new to the benefits of Fantasy Football Scout membership, you can get full details, along with a series of movies previewing the content, via this page.

Due to the new site additions, if you encounter any loading issues with the images in comparison tool, we advise clearing the browser cache (shift and F5) to resolve this.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Thanks Jonty although this just takes me to another comment about heat maps? It's a never ending wheel. It's like the Matrix. Do they exist?

        The simple answer is that they only exist once you get membership.

        Then they exist in stunning technicolour!

    Hello everyone! Today I bring you another small analysis of a game that many of you may have missed. I'm talking about Torino - Huddersfield. Once again feel free to ask any questions you may have and to give an opinion on the game and on the team itself.

    First of all, it is worth noting that this is Torino’s penultimate friendly match, with the latter being two days away on Sunday. With that being said, coach Siniša Mihajlović may have made some rotation when choosing the team. Torino's form in the pre-season has been fantastic with 4 wins in 4 games with 1 goal conceded and 15 goals scored.

    For this last pre-season game, the North American coach David Wagner launched a team in a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Lossl in goal, the defense was made up by Smith (captain), Zanka, Schindler and Lowe. The midfielders were Kachunga, Billing, Mooy and van Pa Parra. The attackers were Ince and Mounie.

    The initial construction phase of Huddersfield is somewhat peculiar. When the centre-backs are with the ball next to their area, Billing always drops down the field between the two of them. As soon as this happens, Zanka or Schindler immediately look for him, so that he decides where to place the ball in the attacking area. At the same time, wingers Kachunga and van La Parra are move closer to the central zone of the field, near Ince, with the wings being entirely given to the full-backs Smith and Lowe. Despite this, it is noteworthy that Huddersfield presents several problems at this stage of construction. Billing often looked for a long pass that never reached its destination, or even when it was Mooy who received the ball of Billing in this backward zone of the field, this one did exactly the same and always looked for a long ball without finding any teammate.
    When the construction phase is already nearer the centre circle, Billing remains with Mooy at the midfield.

    As for the full-backs, there are two distinct things between the two: Lowe always stays on the left and whenever he has the opportunity he crosses to the opposing area; Smith is often looking for the central zone of the pitch, even for making runs to the opposite area several times.

    Finally, it should be noted that the Huddersfield defensive pressure only happens practically in its midfield, always giving time and space to the opposing defenses to build from behind without any opposition.

    1st Half Highlights:
    8th minute – Smith does a great 1-2 with Kachunga and Smith suffers a foul inside de area. The ref let it play;
    15th minute – Ince with a great shot for a good stop by the opposite GK;
    23rd minute – Torino scores after a big confusion in the Huddersfield’s area on the first shot of the game by the Italians;
    35th minute - Great pass from Mooy to van La Parra who gets the ball inside the opponent's area and makes a low cross into the second post where Kachunga comes to score.

    Substitutions at half time: van La Parra -> Palmer; Billing -> Williams; Zanka -> Hefele. Ince went to right-mid, Kachunga to left mid and Palmer to No. 10.

    2nd Half Highlights:
    47th minute – Mooy shoots wide from a free-kick;
    53rd minute – Torino scores from a corner. Smith let his man escape inside the area.
    56th minute – Lowe crosses from the left side into Kachunga’s head that puts the ball wide;
    57th minute – Lowe crosses (he really loves to cross) this time to Mounie that scores from a great header;
    64th minute – Bunch of substitutions where the highlight was Lowe at left-mid with Malone at left-back;
    90th minute – Great shot by Palmer. The GK stopped though.

    Conclusions: David Wagner's team will suffer a lot against teams that have a very high pressure style of play; the initial construction phase needs more work; Lowe made several crosses on the left side and he is who takes the corners on both sides; Mooy takes all free-kicks; Palmer's inclusion at halftime brought a new soul to Huddersfield who managed to push higher up the pitch; Mounie was completely out of the game in the first half (he will have a major difficulty against strong centre-backs); Smith and Kachunga combine very well on the right side.

        That's a pretty poor response and the upvote just demonstrates how thick some posters on here are.

        Most are spamming the pages with incessant RMTs and "player A or player B" posts. This guy has actually bothered to put up something that might be useful to others. It deserves better than a clever, sarcastic retort.

            Watched Hudds a lot in the Championship, the 2 CBs move wide and the DM becomes a 3rd centre back. Full backs really high, two "wingers" come inside and narrow. Really good team

          He's very good on the ball and he likes to cut inside with his right foot a lot (leaving a lot of space on the left side for Lowe). But, he leaved the pitch at half-time so that may be a signal that he will be rotated a lot or that he will be on of the first players to leave the pitch. Wait and see for me

          12 clean sheets last season though! Brighton and Newcastle had 21. This reminds me of the 2014/15 season when quite a lot started with Caulker from QPR due to his goal threat and fixtures, but the clean sheets never came... and so didn't the points. ðŸ™

      Hey Mark, I love what you are doing. Just a couple of question regarding the development:-

      1) Are you going to be making any changes to the Team Profiles (Basically please don't as I love them as they are and use them every week)?
      2) Are you going to be adding the ability to look at the stats on a per minute basis or even a per minute x 90 basis? The ability to add a per minute stat to the custom tables for certain actions would be brill.
      3) Any chance you will give us more flexibility on the Home/Away filters in other words be able to show just the last 6 away games etc?

      Thanks

        It was really about having the ability to choose any stat and use the per minute version instead. Also what are the chances to add a per minute x 90 version of them all as well?

        I missed the Home/Away filter update, thats great thanks.

        Not only they haven't scored. They've wasted some great chances.
        DeBruyne looked frustrated when Jesus missed that one.

      Thoughts?

      Foster (Elliot)
      Lindelof Cedric Cameron (Rosenior Mee)
      KDB Salah Willian Zaha (Carroll)
      Kane Lukaku Austin

      Cameron and Mee rotate for 10 weeks pretty well not sure on salah being rotated though

        Id be very careful of lindelof and cedric. Cedric very unlikely to start at first and Jones may play ahead of lindelof at start.

      Draft team:

      Forster, Gomes

      Kolasinac, Matip, Stones, Dawson, Fuchs

      Coutinho, Mkhitaryan, Zaha, Ramsey, Mahrez

      Lukaku, Benteke, Defoe

      Reasonably happy with it with the only annoyance being that I could not get KDB or another decent City attacking player. Changing Benteke may end up being my first Waiver

          By Draft team I meant for the Fantasy Draft league as opposed to the normal league so was limited on a lot of my picks which is why it isn't template.

          It only shares one player with my current normal fantasy team.

      Not the usual, I'm going Aguero and Sanchez over Kane and KDB really.

      Forster

      Trippier Yoshida Kompany Daniels

      Sanchez Mané Willian Milijoveic

      Aguero Lukaku

      Anything you'd change other than getting Kane in?

                Southampton scored just 17 goals at home. That is less than 1gpg.

                  Yeah. But you have to consider that it was a lot due to that low conversion rate, compared to shot quality even, and that there's a good amount of bad luck in that.

                Over what time period?

                Anyway, every Southampton attacker had a bad conversion season last year, which won't go on forever, and his chance creation is still pretty good, isn't it?

                  Whole Season. It depends. It should be - I had him in my team, for that weekend, two years ago. But to me, he has just drifted backwards.

                    Oh but that's just one season. Last season Saints suffered phenomenally bad conversion rates, compared to chance quality. There's a lot of bad luck in that and it's not going to continue forever. You should take a comparison to his career stats and see if last season was sub par for him too. I don't think he's a bad shooter.

                    But his goal rate has been pretty constant throughout his time in the EPL hasn't it, for some pretty poor teams?

                    I don't have him myself, but am mindful of the fact that until he got injured last season, he was matching some much more expensive options for attacking returns.

                    And that was under Puel.

                        Quite - probably the only reason I don't own him.

                        But as far as I can see, 6 goals and 1 assist from 11 starts and 4 sub appearances is not to be sniffed at.

                        So an Southampton player with attacking threat.

                          I'm not sure he actually couldn't have it, but I can give a rational explanation as to why he might not: the use of the symbols of the said political ideology (in its particular historical manifestation in 1930's-1940's Germany) are prohibited by law in many countries.

          4th most chances created of all the defenders last season. That in 30 apps. More goal attempts than Walker, Daniels, Bertrand, McAuley, Baines and Coleman.

              Ah. That's it. He has a pass completion rate of less than 75%, which makes him pretty mediocre, and chances are therefore likely to be "difficult".

                Ofc crosses and attacking passes are difficult are more difficult than CBs passing short passes to each other and the keeper.

                Nobody is buying either Cedric or Yoshida for "attacking threat". Not if they are sensible anyway.They are buying them for this:

                Um, well, all FPL relevant attacking threat is about goal scoring. If the player neither scores goals nor assists them, then any attacking threat he might have, is pretty negligible in FPL. And if a player takes a lot of shots and creates chances over many seasons and they do not lead to goals, you should ask if those chances he takes or creates maybe are not equal to the chances taken or created by players who also make goals happen.

            The stats don't tell the full story, even with his key passes and crosses into the box being amongst the highest he is still very poor at crossing and the crosses that are completed are poor and without much conviction.

              He completed 43 crosses, only Brunt completed 1 more. Excellent completion rate at 29.9%.
              Agree they need to put them away better.

        Milo or Fraser, even Gross, all better options than Snoddy. He's 50-50 to be off somewhere else, which would make him a better option. He won't be a starter unless Wham have several injuries.

        Your midfield is too weak. Mili might play centre back, Willian is gone when Hazard returns.

        Your defence has Rangel who wont start
