Through the first two months of the season, no side has scored more frequently than Manchester City.

In their second season under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage, City have averaged more than three goals per match to open this campaign and already look to be mounting the strongest title challenge on show.

With Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus as options in attack, we are blessed with two obvious routes to investment. However, reading Pep Guardiola’s intentions with the pair remains a test, made all the more difficult by the news of Aguero’s return to light training following his rib injury.

Just as Gabriel Jesus seemed cemented in the central attacking role, suddenly Aguero’s return seems more imminent, casting further doubts on the likely minutes of the pair over forthcoming Gameweeks.

So, instead, our attentions are drawn to City’s midfield in an effort to achieve coverage of this potent attacking unit while we wait for the striker situation to resolve.

In this article, we’ll be running the rule over three mid-priced Manchester City midfield options – David Silva, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling – alongside the more expensive Kevin De Bruyne, in an effort to ascertain where best to seek value from this side over the coming Gameweeks.

Think I'm going to sell for Hazard, Virgs. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't recall Sanchez doing great things after international duty.

If it was Sunday or Monday night, then perfect, but 2 days rest then an away trip to Watford. Ugh.

Thing is, selling him is always a risk as he can explode in any game.

I'd like to also, but it's a little more complicated for me as I don't have Kane (don't ask). Sanchez was going to be my captain this week, but now that I'm taking two competitive qualifiers into account and an away trip, I'm having a rethink.

Hazard(c) against Palace is a reasonable chance of a goal or assist and CS point returned 12 points.

My other options are Lukaku, Jesus and Alli, and they all have their plus and negative points. I've painted myself into a bit of a corner this week!

Ah, are you not on a Wildcard?

Hazard seems like a tasty captain pick. Playing the worst team in the league; he's match fit now and he would be a devastating differential. I have Kane and I'm considering captaining hazard.

Nopes. Any move now is a -4 as I had to sell Morata this gameweek (for Jesus).

I've got a day release from the missus and was going to sit tight and watch the Watford - Arsenal game over a few beers with the lads. Sanchez(c) would've been sweet 🙂

Does Jonty just spend his time on Opta stats and creating spreadsheets?

All I hear every week is attempted shots, shots in the box, baseline bonus, headed attempts etc.

You can spend too much time analysing statistics and instead better off going with your gut feeling or making assumptions by viewing players; rather than just reviewing data.

Yep, there's a balance to be struck. Stats are useful if comparing two fullbacks from the same team, for example. You might want to see who is the more attacking/creative.

I'd compare it to takeaway meal deals.

Sure, you can spend all the time you want looking for the best possible deal, get a good price and hear good reviews but in the end you should go for the food and sides you want, rather than basing it on other's opinions and the money it costs. Go with your instinct on what you want

Could be the worst analogy I've ever written but some people might get it

People come at the game from different angles. There isn't any one way to play it.

It is an interesting mathematical/statistical problem if you're that way inclined.

People do make robot teams and let computers pick the team/transfers/captains...they're quite competitive. triggerlips.com does this for e.g.

"gut feeling or making assumptions by viewing players; rather than just reviewing data."

Never a true word spoken. Stats don't tell a story and make the game dull. Jonty a decent guy and a good player though so each to their own

Right at the top, blind luck plays a bigger part.

People that've stumbled on all the right players and inexplicably nailed the captain every week and are now probably 100+ pts ahead of the chasing pack.

For everyone else, analysing a few stats and forward planning using the fixture ticker can elevate you from a 'meh' ranking somewhere in the top 1m to a top 10k finish.

I reckon Fitzmaurice is finished and is only keeping Jack O'Conner's seat warm at this stage.

Jack is the man for bringing the youth in he knows them all well from the last few years with the minors if he delivers with the U21s he has to get his old job back.

I may have 1m to go with Alonso for a few games. He's probably one of a few defenders who can pay back a hit.

      Maybe Van Dijk?

2 FTs burning a hole in my pocket this week.

Mkhi and Suttner to which 2?: (Note, I already have Jones, Lukaku and David Silva)

    A) Sterling and Ward, bank the change
    B) Richarlison and Otamendi
    C) Hold Mkhi and just do 1 FT elsewhere (Long --> Mbemba/Gamez)

Cheers Guys. Have a good one 🙂

On a WC - some thoughts on Big Hitter Fixtures/Form/Fitness:
    Fwds:
    Morata - injured hammy forget!
Aguero - injured forget! Can't be fit already if he cracked a rib!
Kane - probably fixture proof on this form - must have!
Jesus - Comes thru Int game ok? - must have!
Flat track Luke - Injured-ish Probably still nick a goal - Meh!
    Firmino - no form!
Laca - Arsenal form so unpredictable!

    Mids:
Sane - Got fixtures just needs mins points there!
    Sterling - Same as Sane
Hazard - Got form, fixtures - must have!
Coutinho - Great player Pool form!

At a minimum imo Dingo, would expect probably another month at least. Maybe he could come back earlier with some sort of protective padding, time will tell.

Neither do I. It would be to risky to play him before he has healed perfectly.. Why take a chance like that when you have so much attacking talent in your squad.. maybe back for gw10.

Hard to say it could go either way for Coutinho but Liverpool are screwed without him.

When I read the news, my first reaction was that it may help Liverpool and Coutinho. He'll move back to his LW spot and have the legs of Wijnaldum behind him to allow him to press higher up the pitch. Good for owners, I think.

If - and this is a major IF - Kolasinac is out how do you think Arsenal will lineup in the defence? Play 4 in the back with Holding coming into the side and monreal switching to the left, or will he continue with the 3-4-3 formation with both Holding and Mertesacker coming into the side, pushing Monreal out on the left?

    None FPL related.

Just me that can't get around owning any Chelsea assets?

Their main focus seems to be on CL, thin squad so therefore can't rotate and players more likely to get injured i.e Morata. Paying a premium price for these players don't forget.

"I used to have a girlfriend
    known as Elsie
    With whom I shared
    Four sordid rooms in Chelsea
    She wasn't what you'd call
    A blushing flower...
    As a matter of fact
    She rented by the hour.
The day she died the neighbours
    came to snicker:
    "Well, thats what comes
from to much pills and liquor."
But when I saw her laid out like a Queen
    She was the happiest...corpse...
    I'd ever seen.
I think of Elsie to this very day.
I'd remember how'd she turn to me and say:
"What good is sitting alone in your room?
    Come hear the music play.
Life is a Cabaret, old chum,
    Come to the Cabaret."

    😉
