We were braced for rotation but never, never in our wildest nightmares did we expect it on this scale.

Rafa Benitez’s decision to drop Rob Elliot last night was merely a tease, that setback for thousands of Fantasy managers now pales into insignificance next to the implications of tonight’s teamsheets.

Leroy Sane is perhaps the major casualty. He’s strangely omitted from the Manchester City squad, despite the fact that he could now go into the weekend clash with West Ham having to avoid a booking to prevent a one-match suspension for the trip to rivals United. Pep Guardiola’s decision to omit a player who has been devastating in home matches and who is owned by over 1.5 million managers is puzzling. We await clarity.

Sane’s absence allows Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero to start together, with Raheem Sterling also retained against visiting Southampton.

Elsewhere, there are a string of prime Fantasy assets on the bench. These include Eden Hazard who is captained by 185,000 managers and Mohamed Salah who has the backing of 472,000.

They are joined by Cesar Azpilicueta, David Silva and Philippe Coutinho as Fantasy managers are left scouring their own bench for autosub solutions.

Plans and Gameweek scores are likely to be devastated, but surely very few of us will have escaped unscathed. Tonight’s teamsheets will go down in Fantasy folklore.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

1.Vardy and Young in for Niasse and Pogba
    2. Vardy and Hazard/de bruyne in for Morata and Silva?

      Don't like 1 a bit.
Maybe 2, but I would not want to see Alvaro go unless I had 2 very strong other forwards.

surely 2 ...Vardy and De Bruyne in. Hazard is inconsistent.

Not sure on KDB being given the goal tonight. It was a cross heading into the goalies arms before Van Dyke touched it. Even more dubious is how Jesus is given an assist! The FPL rules state that if an opposing player touches the ball after the final pass, significantly altering the final destination of the ball, then no assist is given. Thoughts?

I don't think the assist is questionable. If it's a KDB goal, then the guy who won the free kick gets an assist. The goal is weird because it's probably not going in if VvD doesn't touch it. But who knows, maybe Forster completely misreads it and lets it slip through his hands, in which case it's definitely De Bruyne's goal, which is why the goal rule is the way it is.

The goal is up for debate, but the assist is clearly not an assist. It's written in the rules

The rule you quote is talking about a pass. If the direction of a pass is altered by a defender, there's no assist. The way the shot goes in has nothing to do with whether there's an assist or not, unless it's ruled an own goal.

The final pass was KDBs though. It certainly wasn't a shot

Then you're arguing it's an own goal. If the attacker's goal, it's a shot, regardless of De Bruyne's intentions. If it's KDB's goal, the assist is indisputable.

The rule states: "if an opposing player touches the ball after the final pass before a goal is scored, significantly altering the intended destination of the ball, then no assist is given." The final pass was made by KDB and the intended destination was significantly altered. So no assist to Jesus, surely?

Because it's ruled as KDB's goal, it's not a pass, it's a shot. KDB's intentions don't matter, only whether or not the ball was going to be on target if the defender hadn't redirected it.

That's not what it states in the rules though. It states the final pass before a goal is scored. Jesus didn't make a pass. He was fouled in the build up

It also states that the player fouled before a direct free kick that results in a goal gets an assist. Like Paul Pogba with Ashley Young's second goal against Watford.

Only if it's "directly scored" - Like Ashley Young's was. KDBs wasn't directly scored, hence no assist as an opposing player touched it before it reached its intended destination

But Opta ruled it was directly scored because it's KDB's goal. It's either an own goal or it's not. They ruled the deflection incidental.

That's just your personal opinion on it. It doesn't state that in the rules. Opta aren't even mentioned in the rules on assists.

FPL doesn't determine who's goal it is. They get that from Opta. If it's KDB's goal, there's an assist, unless he had won the free kick himself, or the pass to him had been deflected. They ruled it a goal. Therefore, the goal came directly from a free kick, therefore the player who won the free kick gets an assist.

I would have been fine if they'd ruled it an own goal. That makes the most sense to me. But if it's KDB's goal, Jesus gets an assist.

No assist needs to be given though. An assist only needs to be given if a foul directly leads to a goal, or a pass that directly leads to a goal. Neither was the case here. So no assist should be given. I don't think even Jesus himself would expect an assist for that (not even the walking on water dude)

The foul did lead directly to the goal if it's a De Bruyne goal. It has to be an all or nothing rule or else you're opening yourself up to an subjective criteria. It has to be an own goal if you don't want the Jesus assist. By the stats, KDB's free kick is identical to Young's.

Please complete 3rd option. Have 9.2 to spend. Thinking Vardy, don't really need the funds elsewhere. -8 almost unavoidable with Elliot and Laca out with no strong bench and further likely rotation on Sat.

    Elliot / Alli / Laca > Hazard / Pope / ******** for -8.
