Liverpool’s key Fantasy assets are in fine form as Swansea City are dismissed at Anfield, but while Chelsea mastermind another victory and clean sheet, their biggest name remains on the wane.

A ‘power five’ midfield has been much discussed, and embraced by many, over the past few Gameweeks.

But those who have stuck by the notion that forwards can still deliver the requisite bang for the bucks can look back on the last few days with a certain satisfaction.

Roberto Firmino (8.9) has proved a particularly shrewd investment, the Liverpool striker scoring twice in the 5-0 humbling of Swansea City for his third consecutive double-digit haul.

More than 244,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers had made him Gameweek 20’s most purchased player and a further 69,000+ have taken him top of Gameweek 21’s transfers-in as well.

That’s hardly surprising when the Brazilian is on a run of six goals, two assists and 11 bonus points from his last five starts.

A visit from a leaky Leicester City defence on Saturday is up next, although Burnley away and Man City at Anfield follow and rotation remains a factor.

But for now, Firmino has built an almost unshakeable claim for his place alongside Harry Kane in Fantasy forward lines.

Reds points plentiful

Firmino might have been the star attraction but it was his compatriot, Philippe Coutinho, who ran the show.

Injuries and wistful glances in the direction of Barcelona have led the Brazilian to miss seven matches this season.

And yet he’s still become the seventh midfielder to breach the 100-point barrier, with a goal, assist and two bonus points bringing in a tally of 13 yesterday.

Coutinho has now scored in three successive matches, and four times in his last five starts, although investment has remained slow and steady and he’s still only found in 13.2% of FPL squads.

Much of the reason for that has been the game-leading form of Mohamed Salah, who kept things ticking over with a pair of assists against Swansea.

His nine-point return was just about enough for the 1.1 million (20.2%) managers who handed him the captaincy – that number included 31 of the top 100 FPL bosses – despite the Egyptian failing to find the net for only the third time in the last nine matches.

Both Salah and Firmino were subbed off just after the hour-mark with the match done and dusted, suggesting the pair will feature in the Leicester fixture.

The 26,000+ who have made Coutinho the fifth most transferred-in player of Gameweek 21 might be more concerned to note that their man played the full 90 against Swansea. He’s also started five of the last six.

However, while Sadio Mane was benched, Jurgen Klopp appears to have calmed his rotation in attacking areas. The Swansea fixture looked a potential hotspot for both Firmino and Coutinho in particular, but the Liverpool boss made it clear that his priority was selecting his strongest side.

“We have to be as good as possible, as strong as possible, tonight and then we will see. A lot of things can happen, but it’s not allowed to think about Leicester or Burnley.”

Changes in defence continue at pace, however, with Trent Alexander-Arnold perhaps unfortunate not to get more opportunities.

The young full-back was handed only his seventh start of the campaign and promptly produced his best haul, a first Premier League goal, clean sheet and two bonus adding up to 14 points.

Not that that will likely save him from being replaced by Joe Gomez at the weekend, with security of starts to be found on the other flank and in the form of Andrew Robertson, who played his sixth straight match in the ongoing absence of Alberto Moreno. The Scot is set to continue over the next two matches at least, with Klopp confirming Moreno’s absence into 2018.

Joel Matip’s return after five matches out with injury meant Dejan Lovren dropped to the bench as Ragnar Klavan – available for just 4.4 – made his fifth straight start and ninth appearance over the last 11 Gameweeks.

The Reds defence have now kept nine clean sheets over the season, with seven arriving at Anfield. Only Chelsea and Manchester United have bettered that figure with ten.

Warning signs for Hazard owners

Patience is a luxury that Fantasy managers can ill afford when it comes to midfielders taking up 10.8 of their budget.

And it’s starting to wear rather thin where Eden Hazard is concerned.

The Belgian blanked once again in Chelsea’s workmanlike 2-0 win over Brighton, meaning he’s managed just one assist in five matches now.

That’s a worrying statistic when there are a number of other midfielders – and now forwards – outperforming Hazard with alarming ease.

Factor in assets such as Son Heung-min and Marko Arnautovic, who offer the prospect of a double Gameweek 22 at a far more budget-friendly price, and it’s clear that Hazard is now very vulnerable.

He did have four attempts, two of which came in the box, against Brighton and his withdrawal after 72 minutes suggest he’ll start on Saturday at home to a generous Stoke City defence.

But the trend for sales involving Hazard – he lost more than 120,000 managers over the last two Gameweeks and 34,000+ have made him the third most transferred-out ahead of this weekend – looks highly likely to continue. He suffered his first price drop of the season overnight with traffic heading to Coutinho and Jesse Lingard in particular.

Another to be withdrawn early yesterday, albeit in a happier frame of mind, was striker Alvaro Morata.

The Spaniard notched for only the second time in six appearances, a run which has seen his ownership more than halved.

Morata scored a hat-trick at Stoke earlier this season. That and the Blues’ schedule (ars LEI bha BOU wat WBA) should prompt renewed interest in the forward, particularly as a one-week replacement for Harry Kane.

Defenders find attacking returns

There are no major worries where Chelsea’s defenders are concerned.

Cesar Azpilicueta produced his sixth assist of the season – all of which have led to Morata goals – and added clean sheet points and maximum bonus for a third double-digit haul of the campaign.

His 12-pointer was bettered by Marcos Alonso, who brought in 14 points thanks to a second goal in three Gameweeks.

The wing-back now has five strikes this season and has produced three 14-point performances, two of which have come in his last three matches.

Alonso was signed by more than 93,000 for the Brighton match and a further 31,000+ have made him the fourth most popular pick of Gameweek 21.

He’s certainly delivering, averaging a superb 10 points per match over the last four Gameweeks.

Chelsea are now level with Man United on ten clean sheets for the season, but the 6.5% who were hoping to reap the resultant benefits from Andreas Christensen were left bereft as their man missed out through illness, allowing Gary Cahill to earn a recall.

For everyone banging on about Kane, Firmino's scored more points than him over the last three weeks. If you got rid of Kane and got Firmino in, even five gameweeks ago, you're not necessarily that far behind where you would have been so stop f**king panicking.

Did you know he was going to score six goals in two games? Because nothing about his form suggested that when I sold him. Yeah, selling him was always a risk but to say it was stupid isn't exactly fair.

          +1

And as someone who bought Firmino in for Kane, I can testify to it making little difference.

There's WAY too many smug captain hindsights...were they captaining Kane in all those Wembley blanks in Aug/Sept/Oct? I was!

Not really...Liverpool were steam-rollering teams before I bought him in.

Spurs were completely abject and falling to 8th in the table below Burnley.

No way did form indicate Kane back-to-back hat-tricks.

Though yes, Firmino's returns in the last 3 GWs are better than expected.

I mean you’re trying to find ways to justify missing out on the best back to back point haul of the season by comparing points over a 5 week spread.

But that’s none of my business ☕️

It’s a thirty eight gameweek season. Of course I’m going to be looking at spreads of points. If you asked would I have wanted Kane for these two games, knowing he’d have scored six goals, of course I would. But looking at the bigger picture doesn’t make someone bitter does it?

Quite happy with Sterling's captain points last week (4 less) and if Salah hadn't played I would have been happy with Alonso points (3 less) ... we are also not meant to remember as far back as gw 18 when Rooney's and Coutinho's 13 points each dwarfed Kane's 1 pointer (or the 2 point the week before)

If Kane get a hat-trick, we are losing a couple of points and back to back hat-tricks are pretty damn rare

I know its tempting, but you should hold. Morata needs many points to justify that.

You can rather use 2FT's on 2 more in DGW.

Well technically you’d be selling for 12.7m if you wait for the rise. You’re only missing out on 0.3m. But it’s whether you can afford that, and the cost of transfers as said above.

I’d hold him and play Crouch.

With no major issues in the team I am considering to guard against week 21 rotation will then take a 4 point hit for Morata and Hazard to Kane and Son for DGW.

0.2 for a starter who will likely grab a goal/assist.

Lamela will start the League Cup fixtures which is a couple of days after those 2.

I would say Son is very much nailed for 2 starts but might be reduced minutes.

It's a judgement call on whether Morata gets you the transfer cost back over who will start in his place, in my case if there is rotation I may only have 10 players so I get two of the four back if Morata starts

Surely selling Hazard for this run of fixtures from GW23 without the worry of rotation is madness?

            (LEI, bha, BOU, wat, WBA)

            Might do Hazard ➡️ Son ➡️ Hazard for GW22 & 23.

Yup but he’s fixtures were congested and Morata dint play in 3 of them with Hazard.

The difference is that from GW23-27 there will less rotation and more rest.

Does anyone have the link to what “the guy in the know” at Chelsea actually said about Hazard being rested for one of the Stoke or Brighton games?

Did he say this was going to happen based on information he had or just that in his opinion it may happen?

I have 5.2ITB and my WC to play this week. Not sure I need to use it but don't want it to have been wasted when the new one appears. Any ideas on what moves to make to this team? Will be getting Kane in for DW, so keeping some of my cash for that, but thoughts on changes?

            Foster Elliot
            Jones Otamendi A-Arnold Masuaku Rangel
            Hazard Salah Sterling Richarlison RLC
            Lukaku Firmino DCL

Just had a thought, with everyone going Kane(c) for the dgw22 doesn’t this take away the appeal of using the Triple Captain chip?

For example if Kane scores 2 against Swansea and then 1 against West Ham with max baps in both games, that’s a total of 22 points.

So with Triple Captain that’s 66 points compared to 44 with captain.

Is this a big enough reward compared to a gameweek where the captain choice wou

a Kane double blank would cause a melt-down ... though he is in form, back to back hat-tricks could be worrying
On the other hand a 3rd hat-trick (WBA) would probably be another record

I'm leaning towards FH, so it would just be C for me

Alonso would be number 4 in the Midfield rankings. Just behind KdB. and only costs 7.1.
Alonso is a midfielder classed as a defender. 6pts for a goal, takes free kicks, gets in the penalty box and gets 4pts for a clean sheet.

Do you plan on keeping your spurs mid that you bring in for dgw or will you be moving him on again??

Kane is probably enough even tho spurs are finding some form at last.

              Keeping Kane only long-term

Son (who I'll also bring in) with go in GW25 ahead of the 3 awful fixtures.

Son I would probably keep long term based on form and price at the moment....I'm planning on hazard>son to free up funds

              Erikson Id be undecided

Ali I'd ship on straight after the dgw

Have 0.4 ITB and 2 FTs of which I'm planning on using 1 and rolling the other to the double gameweek. Which do you prefer?

            A. Femenia to Mee
            B. Delph to Carroll (frees up 0.2)
            C. Other

            Speroni
            Otamendi Christiansen Kenny Femenia
            Hazard Salah Richarlison Delph
            Lukaku Vardy

            Subs: Hennessey, RLC, Kane, Ogbonna

Crazy to sell Hazard this week. Keep him for at least the Stoke game and reassess then.

He had a shot cleared off the line yesterday, playing well and should have a field day against Stoke. He isn't worth the money long term but can't understand why anyone would get rid before this fixture.

              Captaining against Stoke next week.

Then he's sold as a makeweight for Kane.
