The already punch-drunk ‘template team’ was delivered a knockout blow this week as the January transfer window offered up a host of fresh faces and new clubs for some former Fantasy greats.

Our Hot Topic posters consider the best new recruits as the community looks to rip apart festive squads that did well over December, but fell out of favour over January.

Elsewhere, attacking defenders to replace the most cursed Fantasy centre-back ever seen is among the issues covered by our Members area statisticians.

We look back at all that and drop in our community articles, where Fantasy rugby earns a rare mention. And, as always, we finish off with a scan of those who emerged from January in style at the top of our community competitions.

The Community Articles

As well as assessing the views of the ‘the crowd’ on Gameweek 26’s matches, Hutch_James has also been busy compiling this handy guide to the Six Nations Fantasy game for the community’s rugby fans.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

This season’s January transfer window proved to be one of the most exciting for years, with Arsenal provding the headline act.

Their capture of Borussia Dortmund marksman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang prompted a chain of events that saw Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi move to the Bundesliga side and Gunners forward Olivier Giroud across London to replace the Belgian.

This follows the departures earlier last month from the Emirates of Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez to Everton and Manchester United respectively.

Hotdogs for tea canvassed the community’s views on Aubameyang’s prospects at his new club, while Siva Mohan dropped by to consider another potentially lucrative piece of business by Arsene Wenger in January – the extension of playmaker Mesut Ozil’s contract until 2021.

Walcott’s move to the Toffees has piqued Rupert the Horse’s interest, especially after the winger scored a brace against Leicester City in only his second match for the club. His Hot Topic ponders whether this former Gunner is worth getting in as soon as possible, or can be safely snubbed for another Gameweek or two.

Early adopters who made the move for Walcott prior to his Foxes haul were among those to claim deserved ‘hipster’ bragging rights in our “rough with the smooth” round-up of your Gameweek 25 scores.

In sharp contrast to Arsenal, Manchester City failed in their attempts to bolster their attacking riches as they were unable to land Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez.

This left those Fantasy managers who made an early swoop for the Algerian distraught after it became clear he would miss out on Gameweek 25 following City’s flirtations.

Our lessons learned from Gameweek 25 discussion considers the difficulties of trying to assemble a Fantasy team around transfer deadline day.

Later in the week, we canvassed views on the best replacement for the want-away winger as it emerged he would also miss out this weekend.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members Tables

Stoke me a clipper has been busy constructing a raft of tables covering issues including recent goalkeeping kings, attacking defenders and midfielders and strikers who are coming into form.

Elsewhere, FPL Virgin has been looking at the underlying statistics of some of the best replacements for Chelsea’s unlucky centre-back Andreas Christensen, who through a serious of unfortunate events has only managed to last more than 60 minutes once in the last six Gameweeks.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

In the FFScout Moderators and Contributors, Jack Wain stays top, while I’ve snatched second spot from Az.

ZoumasBloomers still leads QPR UTD’s Frequent Summer Posters league, which is another competition where I have to settle for second place.

FFScout Cup finalist Elvarus has increased his lead at the summit of Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season and has moved up to 30 in the overall standings.

Meanwhile, in Redlightning’s January to May league, JOZ V has leapt into first place after scoring an impressive 289 points over the first four weeks of this second-half-of-the-season competition.

It is business as usual in the FFScout Members league, which Heroes and Villains continues to dominate, while Bowstring the Carp has regained the lead in the main FFScout league and now sits ninth in the overall ranks.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing, the safety score was 43, which saw 89 players depart and 616 remain.

Finally, Speedyboyz was on hand to deliver the latest news from the Community Watch tournament.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-Ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head-to-head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Many players are close to -100.
It is always likely that some of them will drop, but FPLstats don't know which ones.

Salah for me. Scored against the big teams this season and v consistent.

In a week with no standout captain we can go one of two ways - maverick or dullard. I’ve played it safe for most of this season so don’t see any reason to stop now 🙂

I'm tempted by Hazard because Watford's defence at home is so poor and Willian might be pack.

That said, Salah is calling me, as his stats are incredible and I wonder if Spurs come out and attacking Liverpool will play into their hands like it did with City.

I'm going Hazard. Reading Conte's transcript it looks like Hazard and Willian in attack with Giroud on the bench. Hazard and Willian could run riot against the worst home defence in the league.

Watford under the old coach were attacking and defensively poor. There is nothing to say they won't be tightened up under the new coach. As an example, Swansea under Clement were conceding for fun... now, not so much.

Kun. Logic: on the run-in to the end of the season the very top teams hammer a few mid- to low-table teams and this weekend could be one of those times. Same applies to Lukaku this week but his form is not good. Pool and spurs too hard to call.

Sterling as a non-Aguero owner. I think Spurs-Liverpool will cancel each other out. Don't trust Lingard's start this week, so Sterling v Burnley is fine. No chance of being rested and Burnley are depleted.

Salah. As Firmino Son and Kane owner Im hoping for a 4-3 type result in the game. Salah the most consistent of the lot, at home, apparently on penalties which helps too.

I'm getting really tired of people talking about how good Willian is, and how if he gets the minutes he produces. Mark of all people on the scoutcast, Andy on the scoutcast and his own channel, not to mention all the community hype.

He's had one decent season in 4 for goalscoring per 90 minutes, and one decent season for assists per 90 minutes. The first two seasons were nothing short of awful. And neither of these good seasons were anything close to world-class status.

If we look at this season, he's got a decent number of assists again but with very few goals. And almost all of this has come from 3 games out of the 24 that he's played some part in (granted a handful of these were under 10 minute appearances, but most were 60+).
In the first 8 GWs he had 7 starts, 0 goals and 1 assist.

Yes he was, but that just doesn't cut it when you're an attacking midfielder and your team often struggles for goals, partly because of him. Chelsea have had an abundance of great free kick takers for a long time now so it's not like he's adding a huge amount in that aspect. That one season he scored well was when he was banging in free kicks for fun, which admittedly was great.

        vs
        Sanchez and 4.5 forward (about?)

I personally just dont get it. Could be, and usually am, totally wrong. Good luck with it!

Thank you, I had 3 City, so it was Sanchez or Aguero out and KDB in, if it goes wrong I'm 100% getting KDB once I've lost Kun for Kane. Also the allure of someone like Sanchez as a differential, if it goes right, it could REALLY go right.

Aguero played 90 minutes on Wednesday and now plays first thing Saturday morning. Salah played on Tuesday and then again on Sunday afternoon. Is it overthinking to captain Salah because of that? Or a valid reason?

You made it sound like it's a contrarian opinion to think he's more likely to get hurt if he plays more...it's like saying the more I just out of an airplane without a parachute, the more likely I am to die. Just giving you some grief 🙂

Yes, i know it came across as obvious, but this is Kun, not KDB, we all know how prone he is to injuries. So the case is specific to him on this occasion. No grief here, it's cool haha, all giggles 🙂

Fair play to those taking a punt on Sanchez but been reading pages and thinking about it this week. Really dont get it-

      KDB and Wilson
      vs
Sanchez and 4.5 forward (for example)

Like i said, fair play for going for it but really struggling to see the appeal.

I would like to know what players at Leicester are angry with Mahrez over trying to force a move to a top side?
Lets face it most of them would be off like a hot snot if they had a chance of joining a top club more a case of jealously than anger i reckon.

City's offer was more than generous imo Leicester should have taken the offer.

If one of my colleagues got a better offer from another company i would be happy for him and if the bosses blocked it i would be understanding if he was p!ssed off and felt he could not pull for the company anymore.

I think i would feel the same if i was Mahrez and not many Leicester players can say they have done more for the club. He owes them noting.

And if he didn’t work his notice (or see out his contract-fairly equivalent)?

Ultimately, Mahrez is an asset to Leicester (and bear in mind that, as a Coventry fan, I dislike Leicester!). They consider him to be worth a particular value. Unless Man City meet that value, they are unwilling to sell. That’s fair; otherwise players could just walk away from a small team and go to big teams for free.

And to say he owes them nothing is a fallacy: without them taking him from obscurity and him being part of a title winning team, he would be nothing

Noting worse than looking at a fella in a job that just does not want to be there it is best for all concerned in this case if they just parted company.

£65+a player as long as it was not John Stones was a fantastic offer. Those Leicester owners must be smocking crack if they thought they were going to get around the £100m mark for him.

And who took who from obscurity i think you got that the wrong way around.

          Definitely not Auckland.

          Bay of Isles up North.

          Queenstown.

Christensen + Mahrez -> Alonso + Walcott (-4) for exact cash~ my ideal move but already have 3 Everton. (Just 1 playing).

      1. Mahrez + DCL ->
      Walcott (8.4m) + Wilson. (-4).
It would mean starting Mee + Ogbonna this GW and benching Richarlison tho.

      2. Other moves. (Considering a -8).

      Pickford.
      Christensen, Mee, Otamendi.
      Sterling, Salah, Richarlison, Pogba, Mahrez.
      Kane, Firmino.
      Speroni, Ogbonna, Kenny, DCL.
      1ft, 0.4m.

First few was for dgw prep, Arnie worked, Masu didn't. Then Kanexit for Aguero (c), that went well in the last two. Also brought Callum Wilson in and played last week. Mahrez disappointed, Christensen's now a legend, then Arnie and Masu was just too much.
