Mohamed Salah’s remarkable debut season just keeps on rolling and, while the ScoutCast crew have been fervent in their support for the Egyptian from Gameweek 1, we’ve been a lot more reluctant to hand him the captaincy.

Salah’s numbers and, in particular, his head-to-head with Golden Boot and armband rival Harry Kane, come under scrutiny in this latest episode. Jonty, Andy, Granville and Az join me as we reveal the true tale of our lack of faith and the damage done. The evidence is conclusive and nobody has more regrets than yours truly.

Elsewhere, your community questions have us revisit some of the Gameweek 31 casualties that had their credibility knocked by a weekend littered with eye-opening disappointment and we assess the allure of Arsenal’s favourable run-in. That’s also conclusive.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Sane rose on -9, Aubameyang fell on -2 ??

If they miscalculated because of the flag, they aren't going to know until the price change so the when of the flag is irrelevant. If Sané didn't want to change price for the rest of the season, FPL Stats would never have known his delta was incorrect

The Tosun situation is funny because the same thing happened with Eliteserien where the biggest fallers of the season were those that joined the league half way through the season. Players without a dead ownership are incredibly volatile when it comes to price drops.

Arnie is a wonderful pick! If only he didn’t get injured, eh...

Btw, what do you think about Sterling > Mahrez? If I do it, I’ll have no Man City players.

                        Sterling’s PP: 8.5M SP: 8.6M

Sterling is more than Mahrez's equal, but I'm getting rid because I don't think he starts against Chelsea.

Weird - when Sterling was announced as possibly missing the cup final and there weren't obvious Sterling replacements, Sterling owners were saying he is definitely going to play the league game a few days later and he is a must to keep. Now, in pretty much the same scenario now there are obvious replacements, Sterling owners are saying he probably won't play the next game and are selling.

We didn't have enough info before the GW28 deadline. Mark thought he would play in the league cup final.

If we'd known the extent of the injury, most would have sold last Friday.

          I'm late to the conversation.

I sold Sterling last night --> Mahrez.

It's not that I don't like Sterling, but I think Mahrez has more points in his boots short term. Plus, I think there's potential that Mahrez rises in value and Sterling has another drop, so I can bring him back when City's schedule eases and actually gain a penny

Is Mahrez a wise replacement for Sterling? He has done literally nothing the last x GW’s & may have gone off the boil. Shaqiri is surely the pragmatic option if not already in your 11 (for GW31) followed by Arnie?

Need rid of Monreal, injured and plays for Arsenal, was blinded by the fixtures and attacking threat but foolishly forgot to check their recent clean sheet (or lack of clean sheet) record. Have Davies so no other options available to me.

Davies could be rested in the league if they secure top 4 and progress to the quarter finals.

Pope could soon lose his place.

KdB could suffer the same faith as Davies.

          Aubameyang??

You haven't given yourself any advantage for GW31 and your lining yourself up for a sh_tstorm once the double come

Yea I was playing around with my team planning bits and bobs and accidentally hit confirm on the summary page with wildcard turned on like a moron... I was going to wait till GW34/35 to play the wildcard but oh well.. whats done is done now.

I didnt think I needed to really account for GW31 if im playing the free hit that week.. that was my logic with that anyway.

Davies.. he was highly tipped from the scoutcast episode and other forums online which is why I took a punt on getting him in. Of course that could change.. any suggestions of an alternative to him?

KDB.. I dont think he will be rested in league games.. hes been citys anchorpoint all season... I cant see that changing anytime soon. Pep doesnt really change the squad at all these days. I was however considering switching VVD and McTominay for Danilo & Gundogan. You think that would be a better duo?

Aubameyang..... I can see him returning big points in the coming gameweeks. arsenals run of fixtures till the end of the season are spot on... and they always seem to get a new wind in the last 5-10 weeks of the season.. its happened 2 seasons in a row now for them.

            1. Pep says
              • 10 Years
              7 years, 9 months ago

If you're free hitting in 31 then I'd lose players like Niasse and Van La Parra.

Davies is being tipped based on the next 2 because they are only focusing on the next 3 fixtures until they all wildcard. 32 to 38 will have a different story. United defender maybe?

KdB will surely start getting rested prior to big Champs league games when the league is sown up. Danilo and Gundogan aren't exactly nailed I don't think.

This season Arsenal are atrocious. The same thing the happened to Lacazette is happening to Pierre. No supply. Don't see that improving anytime soon.

Why would pope soon lose his place? Curious about that.. first ive heard of it. Hes trying to impress to get to the world cup with england isnt he? He wont be doing that if hes second choice at burnley. Im not sure why hed ever be second choice this season with his performances.

KDB to Sane and upgrade McTom to Ramsey

Pope and other keeper to the two palace keepers maybe?

          VLP to McArthur?

Long’s minutes will dry up, but nothing else at that price

Those are interesting changes! Long would be on the bench to be fair so his minutes dont bother me too much.

KBD and McTom to Sane and Ramsey are definitely decent ideas though!!

Let me know how you get on. The only obvious concern is with two keepers in the same side and a non playing defender the B.B. chip becomes much less effective

Haha then yeah, see no issues with those moves. Might also want to look at Mane and Niasse to Firmino and a cheap MF as I think Bobby is a safer (and more profitable) route into Liverpool attack

I literally just posted on the next page.... Firmino or Mane if you had to pick one hahaha.

Ive now got Schmeichel in goal, Leicester have a good run of fixtures now till the end of season..
Switched KDB and McTom for Sane & Ramsey like you said
                    Niasse-> Firmino
Mane->(just figuring out what cheap mid now)

And davies to Leicesters Maguire (because of the fixtures)... what you think to maguire as an asset for the rest of the season??

Owning an (injured) Arsenal defender doesn't seem sensible, so does Monreal to Bailly -4 make sense?

Ideally I'd get someone with attacking threat but in the 6m bracket there's not much available if you have Davies.

That's a big assumption to make, especially considering I have EU in my name?

Also, the point people are making is if you have mass injuries/fixture back log/rotations you're gonna find it harder to field 15 players (using BB) and WC prevents you from carrying over a FT.

My plan is Monreal and Sterling to a United defender and Arnie -8 this gw. United defender to Alonso next gw free. Will decide whether to get Sterling back or not for the double later.

Which United defender is worth it for the gw.

        A) Valencia for attacking threat
        B) Smalling for a likely cleanie and potenial baps

I don't understand. The United defender would have to score 6+ for you to just break even, and that's assuming your replacement scores only 2

When I had androids I had to restart them every now and again as they’d freeze. Or apps just would crash at random points.
None of that with Apple I find.. they just work, never have to turn them off or restart them and they are always reliable IMO.
You mentioned overpriced.. but the price of some of the new androids are rediculous to be fair. At least with Apple you know the product is actually spot on lol

Fair assessment that, but I have always run a clean android OS and bloatware hasn't really been an issue for me.
If we look 5 years back, I think Apple were superior in every aspect. Now, I think that Samsung, Huawei etc deliver "more bang for your buck". But hey, it's just a matter of opinion, right?

I have 3 from Pool already and not enough money for Spurs defenders. 4.8 is limit 🙁
WBA are terrible squad but they have good fixtures, they need to start playing to avoid relegation and their defenders are main attacking treat.

Their league position is largely down to Montella who got the sack. They've improved markedly under Gattuso and are currently on a 13 game unbeaten run in all competitions. Certainly in better form than Arsenal.

I watched them at Bournemouth and they are such a soulless team. They used to play wonderful football and have an identity. Now they have too much mediocrity and no leadership. There is nothing I see to show me they really care. Bournemouth outfought them and wanted it more. And that is 6/7 players worth less then Aubameyang combined. Think Wenger needs to go and and a new man bring in impetus and leadership and passion

First Arsenal aren’t in the game to win titles. They’re in it to be profitable and they’re one of the rare European clubs to achieve that goal of profitability. Winning titles is hence secondary and Wenger hasn’t been sacked cuz he’s been able to consistently achieve profitability.
Also, for this season, Arsenal no longer cares about anything other than winning the Europa League which would give them a spot in next year’s CL.
The tragic bottom line is that it’s impossible to support a team that’s only in the game for the money.

For those of you that are having a crappy season, where did it all go wrong? And who's to blame apart from ourselves of course 😉
          My top 5 is:
          1. Liverpool's prolific attack: Followed Salah pre-season but omitted him last minute and was far too late to the party. Had Firmino in GW1 but didn't stick with him!
          2. Choosing not to go with DDG.
          3. Dele Alli & Leroy Sane: Stuck with Dele, the out of sorts donk, for far too long! Sold Sterling for Sane and stuck with him through a plethora of blanks!
          4. Poch's wingback rotation preventing a great asset, Davies, from being a set and forget defender in my team.
          5. Alexis Sanchez: Changing up my team to get ahead of the crowd on this premium differential hasn't worked out at all!

Looking forward to next season and the big lessons learned for me this time around have been:
          A. Patience is not always a virtue.
          B. If there is a premium mid playing up front and scoring goals, go with him and get the armband on him early.
          C. Stick with in-form point scoring players until they dry up. And not with out of form players with good fixtures hoping for the points to come!

I'm happy with my season overall, but definitely made mistakes along the way.

            1) TC on the ill Kane in his DW. Enough said.
            2) Keeping premium strikers for too long - Lukaku and Morata both stunk out my team for periods when I should have reinvested in midfield or in Kun.
            3) Some silly hits taken, planning short-term transfers that backfired.

            3. Should have stuck with salah captain earlier, thought he couldn't carry on scoring

My usual fault is taking too long to recognize that a player has improved massively. I did this in the past with Bale when he went from being a defender to a goal scorer and with Kane in the past when he started scoring massively and with Vardy and Mahrez in Leicester's title-winning season. This season:
            - Didn't get on the Salah wagon soon enough, despite the consistency of his scoring, and kept on not captaining him.
            - Didn't recognize when Alonso had hit form after a slow first part of the season.
            - Stuck with Morata and Hazard for too long when they weren't scoring.
            - Assumed at the start of the season that Crystal Palace would be an ok side and kept up with this assumption, despite contrary facts.

The lesson overall is that I'm too rigid in my assumptions and not flexible enough in changing my assumptions in the face of new evidence. The game shows us interesting facets of ourselves!

What to do here - lot of issues emerging I want rid off.

          2.6m in bank, one transfer

          Foster, Adrian
          VVD, Otamendi, Dunk, Mustafi, Dummett
          Hazard, Mahrez, Sterling, Mili, Salah
          Kane, Jay Rod, Quaner

A - Mustafi/Otamendi/Dunk to Davies (note Mustafi's fixtures are good but he has been utter crap since December)
B - Sterling to Mane (probably worth waiting till 31)
C - Sterling and Quaner to Firmino and Shaqiri/Pritchard
          D - Something even madder
          E - Do nothing

I should add if Sterling news sounds bleak I'm considering A and B.
