Our series of members’ Monitor articles on Wildcard targets continues this evening with a look at Manchester United’s number one, David De Gea.

As has been the case for almost the entirety of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, the Spaniard sits on top of the positional rankings and is the most owned goalkeeper overall.

However, despite that, De Gea has rarely featured at the summit of our Watchlist rankings until this point, with his two double Gameweeks and kind schedule now a major factor.

De Gea has accumulated 144 FPL points, six points clear of his nearest challenger (Manchester City’s Ederson), while an average of 4.8 points per match (ppm) is bettered only by Burnley’s Nick Pope (4.9ppm).

Amazingly, De Gea is now just five points short of Tom Heaton’s league-leading 149-point haul recorded last season – despite the United keeper still having eight matches left to play.

More impressively, should he maintain his current per-game averages, De Gea even looks poised to break Joe Hart’s single-season record of 166 points recorded in 2011/12 – when the City keeper combined 17 shutouts with 99 saves.

On the basis of these numbers, it would seem impossible to argue that anybody but De Gea belongs between the sticks of in our squads over the final eight Gameweeks.

Digging deeper into the keeper’s numbers, however, highlights a surprising decline in output.

Is there a view on who is most nailed out of Murray and Barnes?

Both seem to have strong competition from locadia and wood respectively.

Need to pick 1 for wildcard. Murray fixtures seem better in short term

    Thanks

I'm going Murray just because I think he's better and his form is good and fixtures are for now

Both have very strong competition (Wood, Locadia) but Murray form, short term fixtures + pens means it is his position to lose in my opinion. I would not be surprised at all if he doesn't score over the next two (32/33) though that he loses his starting position before DGW34 for example - that's what you get at the bargain bin sometimes...

This is one of the reasons I am going with Auba, Firmino, Vardy or Auba, Lukaku, Vardy on my WC. To avoid this headache.

Think i'm finally getting there. Views on this?

    DDG
    Alonso Maguire Robertson
    Salah Mahrez Son Willian GroB
    Lukaku Aubameyang

    Ryan Barnes Dunk Lowton.

Looks okay according to most people here.

However, I would personally be afraid of rotation on Alonso, Robertson, Son, Willian and Barnes.

Alonso has already proved fatigued and will probably need more rotation before the season ends, Robertson will be priority no 1 for CL so Moreno might get matches in PL if top four place is secured, Son is safe until Kane is back, Willian only fits in some of Conte's systems and will be benched for the others depending on opposition, and Wood has returned from injury and is now a clear threat to Barnes' starting place.

I am on my WC too, and I only dared to go for two out of those, so I can swap them before DGW if they are rotated.

Just the Robertson pick stands out for me. If you knew he was going to be rotated for either 32 or 34, would you still pick him? Because, really, I'd be amazed if he wasn't. I love the Maguie pick, but Morgan and Mustafi Smalling if you must) beats Maguire and Robertson for me. The rest is top-end template. Good luck!

It seems to me likely that Davies might only miss Brighton game in week 34 pre FA cup game?

See below as otherwise a week between games. On this basis and attacking potential I think I may switch from Mustafi to Davies. What do you think?

Sunday 1 April v Chelsea away- Davies

    + 6 days

Saturday 7 April v Stoke away- Davies

    + 7 days

Saturday 14 April v Man City home- Davies

    + 3 days

Tuesday 17 April v Brighton away- Rose

+ 7 days (for Davies after Man City game)

Saturday 21 April FA cup - Davies

    + 9 days

Monday 30 April v Watford home- Davies

I have both ... if I want only one it would still be salah .
Just imagine what he could do in a game like Bou stk or westbrom with more than 100% ownership.

      1. Sánchez
        • 13 Years
        7 years, 8 months ago

Ownership percent isn't of meaning tbh
Only concern is winning my ML, so basically just, who gets points

I'm still thinking Salah myself, but partly because I can sell him to Sterling to get Kane later on whereas I'd be unwilling to sell hazard before a dgw

        1. Hy liverpool
          • 12 Years
          7 years, 8 months ago

That reason is against salah not hazard !!! ... you can't sell hazard means he is so important for the double iyo so sticking with salah as it's easily to get rid doesn't make sense imo.

          Can you fit both ?

          1. Sánchez
            • 13 Years
            7 years, 8 months ago

            Not without huge overhaul

I'd sell salah for city cover given they have BHA-HUD gw37 so to me, getting one will be important

That would also allow Kane for wba-NEW. So whatever happens, I will sell salah before gw37

My head says sell Firmino for Barnes/Murray, can then have enough in the bank to get Lukaku for Auba and do King to Groß/Gudmondsen, yet it just seems wrong with those fixtures, even without a double.

If you had to ask whether Lowton is nailed or not for both games in GW34 then it kind of argues that Ward is worth the extra... Plus I think he will get more assists than Lowton too... More bonus... Etc.... Easily worth it!

    Review of forwards:
Aubameyang - Definitely getting him. Arsenal are flat-track bullies and always deliver at home. Next two games are superb. 3G and 1A in first 5 games is great considering he needs to settle in and Arsenal didn’t score in two of them. Stats back it up and show he’s actually underperforming! Nailed

Lukaku - Has improved his form recently and highly involved in Utd attack. Has 2 super DGW’s,however away to City is screaming a blank. Stats are very poor however and he’s actually punching above his weight. For 11.4m he’s simply not worth it. Utd aren’t gonna score much either. Nailed aswell

Vardy - Recent form is mixed but like Lukaku stats are very poor. Fixtures are great however and has 2 very nice DGW’s. With Mahrez in most teams though is double Leicester attack too much considering they’ve nothing to fight for? Nailed

Firmino - Form is good and the stats are decent aswell. No DGW’s is a massive con aswell as fairly difficult fixtures. Palace and Everton have been very strong defensively at home and will be tough games. Liverpool will also be focusing on CL games either side of these gameweeks. Could be rested and won’t play full 90

Murray - Has been in great form recently (5G in 6 games). Stats are very nice for a budget striker and on pens. Short term fixtures are great and has DGW. However after that it’s very poor. Groß is alternative. Not nailed

Barnes - Recent form is good (3G in 3 games). Has the DGW and decent fixtures. Is part of a poor Burnley attack and would be surprising to see form continue!

Kane will be essential imo when he’s back. How will he be brought in though and could he be back for DGW34? What is your preferred frontline and why? Sorry for long post but this my main WC issue!

    I’m at DDG Ryan
    Lowton Alonso Smalling Stephens Morgan
    Salah Mahrez Mhki Willian Groß

Please help! FH 35, BB 37

    DDG - Fabianski
    Morgan - Mee - Alonso - Bailly - Alderweireld
    Mahrez - Son - Willian - Salah - King
    Vardy - J Ayew - Aub

    Kane plan: Aub/Alonso -> Kane/Christensen
BB 37 is far off, but Swa enablers allow me to go heavy elsewhere which should benefit me GW 32-38

From what has been said in these forums, Toby might be worth reconsidering - combination of injury and contract disagreement.

Maybe downgrade to Mustafi in order to upgrade King?

Ah, didn't catch the contract disagreement. That's reason enough to go Vertonghen for me, I have the budget

Even after the kane swap I've got 0.6 left over

If I hope Kane drops 0.1 by GW 36, I could go

I ain't terrified of that, I am 100% sure it will happen as I am experiencing a nightmare season (since GW16 or so), everything has happened to me like that, Arnautovic getting injured when I bought him, Mahrez not playing when I bought him, Christensen 57 minutes, and so on...

    B - Vardy and Gross

Get Lukaku in 34 for Auby

I'd pick Ward at 4.7m out of the Burnley defenders, just saying! If it was last october everyone would have him, I wonder, why is Lowton so popular? If you have money, most should have, surely Ward is more nailed and better attacking threat too than Lowton!!!

0.3m might matter a lot to people who will want to buy a more expensive Lukaku in GW34 or need it to get Kane back in GW36.

Easy to go with the cheaper option especially when not much is expected from either when needed.

Maybe you are right... But you actually made me think about this, cause you asked whether Lowton plays both games in the double... I'm happy to pay 0.3m more for Ward who is very likely to play both... Or 0.2m more than Tarkowski... But that Kane bit makes me think some more... Good point...

So I'm on a somewhat premature WC.
I'm toying with the idea of TC in 34 with Lukaku and 10 DGWers and setting up now for a 37BB with 14 DGWers, which is a bit risky but I should have transfer between now and then to cope with injurys form etc... Anyone having similar thoughts?

      Something like:

      McCarthy Fab

      Smalling VDH Christ Chiwell Lowton

      Mahrez Son Salah Sterling Willian

      Barnes Vardy Luku

With Lowton and Barnes -> Mustafi & Ayew for 37
