The World Cup final between France and Croatia takes place this Sunday, but McDonald’s FIFA and Fantasy iTeam managers ought to be aware that the third-place play-off between Belgium and England – which takes place on Saturday at 3pm – also counts towards their Fantasy scores.

Although rotation can be expected for this hollow match between the losing semi-finalists, the fact that Fantasy managers get five free transfers in the McDonald’s FIFA game (three in Fantasy iTeam) ahead of this final round ought to be more than enough to enable a full starting XI at the very least.

That we will know the line-ups for the third-place play-off before the final World Cup Fantasy window shuts on Saturday afternoon will also help with our squad selections.

While we can confidently predict the full-strength starting XIs for France and Croatia ahead of the final, Saturday’s play-off tie is sure to feature some peripheral Belgian and English squad players. Fantasy managers would, therefore, be advised to look out for team news an hour or two before kick-off as there could well be some Fantasy differentials with low ownership on display that could help reduce or consolidate a mini-league deficit.

Our team-by-team analysis of Opta’s World Cup data, which is available to Fantasy Football Scout members as part of their yearly subscription, provides clues as to which players’ underlying statistics could translate into Fantasy points and which assets are best avoided.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, which begins on June 14 but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

Check out this new trailer previewing the World Cup content below…

It's seems United is busy with Bale atm. I guess he would be a midfielder if Salah is also a midfielder. Price prediction? 11.0?

Most of his time in the PL he was a defender, so yes, 4.5 defender given the threat of rotation in United's back 4 😉

Nobody knows. I heard that he lost penalty duties at the end of the season, but tbh that doesn't fit with my memory. I remember owning him at some point towards the end because of pealty duties. I think there was an instance of someone stealing the ball from him for a pen. Ah I'm remember it now as I type. But I think whoever that was, missed, and was scaulded by everyone, so then it was a questions of whether it would be Baines or...Tosun? Anyway, probably Baines, but nobody knows

As for your question. Coleman. He could probably keep up with Baines' goal scoring even if he takes all the pens, assuming Everton improve their attack this year.

As much as this is just tabloid journalism, it highlights how pens could be heading Tosun's way. So certainly don't count on Baines taking pens. Buy him if you think he'll get Cs and attacking returns from other avenues.

No, you've remembered the incident correctly - and then 'The Free Hit' gwk happened and everyone got Baines in for possible penalties because Sam had taken them off Tosun. I'd say it's between Baines and Siggy but we're genuinely trying to sign another left-back so Baines might not be an option at all come season-start. If Siggy is defo on penalties, my draft might have to see a Walcott upgrade ...

Cheers Bigbarn! Now I remember. Would we have a way of knowing he was on pens before the season starts though? That's the difficult part. If we knew, then he'd be my Ramsey placeholder, but I'd just keep him if he looked good.

Wait and see on his fitness. If he is fit to start GW1 then I like the option. Stekelenburg is 4.0 so safe cover for Pickford if he misses out due to the WC.

I'd prefer to pay 4.0za for Ward but 4.5za also sounds good for a Liverpool keeper!

Although from Liverpool's point of view what would sound even better is a new keeper signing.

I think he's just at the limit now, just because I wasn't playing FPL during the Ronaldo and van Persie years so have never seen anyone priced higher than 13 (Aguero in my first year of playing).

for a season target total of 2400 & Salah doing 300 again -:
as constant captain he is worth 1/4 of that so £25m
or as constant captain he is 2/12 of the team =100/6 = £17m
or as a 'no captain' at all he is worth 300/24 = £12.5

On the basis of what that leaves for the rest of the team I'd hesitate at over £13.5

Strong team and a nice even balance across it.

I have Mendy and Robertson just now but I struggle with the idea of all that money at the back. Especially since TAA could start for 1m less and Mendy may not start the first GW due to being away (still needs a holiday then fitness after dispite not playing).

      1. arndff_

Yeah, Robbo is 1M more expensive than TAA but there's a reason why -- I think he worth the extra money. Last season he performed really well.

        2x premium defs + 2x 4.5 + 1x 4.0 is quite OK imo.

B 100%. All three could turn out good, but Walcott has flattered to deceive for too long. Tosun could also be threatened by Niasse, who was signed by Silva at Hull. Siggy has set piece advantage however and this is a MASSIVE advantage for fantasy

I think that's the thing though. There are typically 2 ways of looking at it.
Pick and Stick (Ederson for example) or rotate between 2 4.5s or 5/4.5

I'm happy to bench a 5 like Pickford for example GW10 they play Man U but Foster has Huddersfield.

Lack of a heavy-hitter up top could hurt you, maybe you could pick one of Silva or Sane to downgrade, and get in Aguero. Could still work though, Salah captain every week isn't unreasonable for now

Hardly stress free. I was light on City mids last year due to rotation, and got about 5 hernias watching them consistently score.

Patricio at 4.5m seems ridiculous, he's a Euro winner and CL quality keeper. Better than a couple of the top 6's keepers. Think some of the Wolves pricing is very generous.

Jota, Douglas and Cavaleiro seem accurately priced. Boly, Saiss, Bennett, Neves, Costa, Jimenez, Bonatini seem priced to encourage people to take a chance on them.

I'm currently on Jota, Cavaleiro and Boly but Patricio is tempting me to abandon Ederson.

I expected 5.0 but he does play for a newly promoted team. Is he a set and forget option or rotation with another 4.5?

Fair point but he's of a much higher pedigree than most promoted keepers.

Personally I always like to have two playing keepers, even when one of them is a premium one, but as long as the transfer goes through properly he's as good as a promoted keeper gets.

What you forget about particularly goalkeepers & sometimes defenders is that it's the quality of the team that is more important than the players quality himself.

Wolves were excellent in the Championship though and are somehow able to attract (Portuguese) players above the standard that most promoted teams can get. They've got a very good base to build on.

Saying that, Fulham barely have an XI but just signed Seri who seemed close to joining Barca at one point.

How quickly do prices normally rise?

I remember reading that they were trying to relax it a bit so a player doesn't shoot up after 1 good game but for the life of me can't remember.

Feel like price rises/drops are much bigger early on when even a 0.1 change can leave you stuck with/without a player without major surgery to free funds.

Difficult question to answer but there's a higher proportion of active players in the first few weeks

    A) Mane + 7m FW
    B) Firmino + 7m MF

Feel as though there are better options at 7m in the forward bracket (Zaha, Arnie, Tosun....)

This, plus Firmino could miss GW1 after the World Cup. Trust in your rationale.

The only caveat is that Mane and Firmino are not the same player in different positions. I'm not convinced with Mane as an option just yet, but you could be right 🙂

    Best 6.5 mid?
    A) Walcott
    B) Jota
    C) Sess

Jota, could play up front. It's the right price for Walcott and I always seem to have him at some point but just don't trust him to be reliable and we don't know about Silva's Everton yet. Sess too risky for at this stage.

Monitor it on pre season but if Jiminez isn't starting then go for Jota since he'll be oop as a striker.

First RMT, so go gentle please -

    Pickford - (Fabianski)
    Kompany - Sakho - Dunk - (Williams - Zanka)
    Sané - Ramsey - Sanchez - Milivojevic - (Stephens)
    Aubameyang - Firmino - Zaha

    1. LangerznMash

Kompany, Sane and Ramsey all gametime risks. Personally think Lacazette is better pick than Auba as the latter is sometimes played out on the wing.

3 goals for Auba in the last two games he played "on the wing". 1 for Lacazette

Looks like they only started 3 games with Auba "on the wing" (may have miscounted), with Auba scoring 3 and Laca scoring 2 in those games.
          _________________________
Goals scored while both were on the pitch (while not starting the game together:

          Stoke
          Auba:: 1 + 1 (P)
Laca: 1 (P) - Aubameyang praised by Wenger for letting Laca take the penalty

          West Ham
          Laca: 2

          Total
          Laca: 3
          Auba: 2

Again, apologies if I've miscalculated. Laca could be a great option, you're right. Auba is more of a goalscorer from what we can see with the eye test and history, but Laca could prove value, and even push him for goals if the attack is strong, fluid and punishing enough. Yet to be seen who's on pens though. And you'd think if anyone was less nailed, it would be Laca. Let's see if there's any tansfer business for a left-sided attack (Zaha?????) too

My gut feeling is that they wont be far apart in terms of total goals. The addition of mkhi and Auba will help Laca to do better than he did early last season too.

That extra 1.5 could go towards a Kane/KdB etc

        Williams also a risk.

Think Tomkins is cheaper than Sakho(?) and don't think Mili is worth it just for pens.

I would definitely go Auba over Lacazette though, I think Emery will trust him more from the off.

Fabianski seems like a waste of money if you have Pickford to be honest. And Sanchez just seems like a waste of money. 🙂

Ederson, Alonso, Bailly, Cedric, Tomkins, Peltier

    Strong enough defence?

Provided Conte remains in charge (keeping Alonso an option) and Bailly looks to be nailed following pre-season, should be good to go

Really dont like Bailly. He seemed to fall out of favor at the end of last season. Dont believe Mou's reasoning at all about giving players who were going to the WC extra playing time.

    Ederson
    Robertson - Coleman - Holebas
    Mahrez - Jota - Mane - Salah (c)
    Aguero - Tosun - Reid

    Steele - Tomkins - Bednarek - Gunnarsson

Holebas and Tomkins rotation looks as though it could work for the first two months or so (BHA, bur, PAL, SOU, hud, NEW), decided to go big in midfield. What do you think of it?

    1. Dyballer
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 4 days ago

It looks good. One concern is how often Mahrez will play early in the season. He still needs to adapt to the Pep way, so I can see B Silva for example playing more for the first half. Preseason will tell however. You have the two main players covered imo in Salah and Agüero and defensive studs in Ederson, Coleman and Robertson. A lot of players will be missing early on due to WC, but you don’t have them. Great

Don't think they are 'fantastic value', just correctly priced whereas they were overpriced before. Could be worth a go considering fixtures but need to see more of Everton.
