Several key players have returned to their respective clubs following the World Cup, and are hoping to be involved in Gameweek 1 of Fantasy Premier League.

Last season’s top-scorer Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) was back at Liverpool’s training ground on Friday morning alongside team-mate Sadio Mané (£9.5m).

Both players were knocked out in the group stages in Russia, with Mané involved in three matches, Salah in just two.

The Reds are still waiting for the return of their contingent who reached the knockout stages which includes Roberto Firmino (£9.5m), Dejan Lovren (£5.0m), Xherdan Shaqiri (£7.5m), Jordan Henderson (£5.5m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.0m).

Christian Eriksen (£9.5m), Son Heung-min (£8.5m) and Davinson Sanchez (£6.0m) are all back with Tottenham and the trio are set to travel to the USA for the club’s pre-season tour.

All three could be involved in Gameweek 1, with the club confirming today that even Son will be available for that match before departing for the Asian Games.

The tournament kicks off on August 14, a few days later and Son has to win it in order to gain immunity from military service. If he achieves that, then he won’t be available until Gameweek 5, with the Games finishing on September 1. An early exit from the competition could see him come back sooner.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane (£12.5m) is hoping to start in Gameweek 1 despite an extended stay in Russia with England.

The Spurs man was at the World Cup until its final weekend, registering 582 minutes at and winning the tournament’s Golden Boot award with six goals.

“I’ll hopefully be back for the first game and hopefully I can try and score in August this year,” Kane told the press when he arrived back in England earlier this week.

Those comments come subsequent to an interview given after England’s third/fourth place play-off defeat to Belgium in which he said he’d be discussing his availability with Mauricio Pochettino.

“We’ll have to talk to the gaffer at Spurs, but it will be a couple of weeks away,” he said.

“Physically your body will always take you where you’d never think it would.

“The important thing is mentally. It will be difficult but something we have to deal with.

“We train all year round, we’re young, we’re fit, your body gets on with it.

“For me personally, and I know for the other lads, it’s just getting away from football really.

“It’s hard, but it’s what we have to do with the season starting so quickly.”

Kane won’t be on Spurs’ pre-season tour, though. In fact, none of the nine players who made it to the last four of the World Cup are on the tour.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is not going to rush any of his key players back, even though he only has four senior first-team players with him on the club’s pre-season tour in the USA.

However, the Manchester Evening News reported on Friday that defender John Stones (£5.5m) is willing to cut-short his extended break so that he can be available to face Chelsea in the Community Shield on August 5.

As we have already mentioned, Bernardo Silva (£7.5m) and Benjamin Mendy (£6.0m) have already agreed to waive their three-week entitlement, which is why they are currently training in Chicago.

“Physically it’s not a problem but mentally they must be ready, how they come back and handle the situation, day by day,” Guardiola said of his first-team players involved in the World Cup.

“I’d have preferred more time, one month or one month and a half. So many games – but they have to adapt.”

The City manager will support the decision of players who decide not to come back in time for Gameweek 1.
“It is what it is, we know because we spoke – they have to come back ready,” he added.

Elsewhere, Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.5m) and Idrissa Gueye (£5.0m) have now returned to training for Everton and will travel for the tour of Portugal.

    Current draft:

    Fabianski | Foster
    Baines | TAA | Douglas | Cedric | 4.0
    Salah | Martial | William | Lamela | 4.5
    Aguero | Auba | Austin

Looking to Wildcard for GW5. One option is to change Baines and TAA to Mendy/Bavies/Robertson and 4.5 but dunno.

    Thoughts?

I tend not to worry too much about my bench in the first 10 weeks or so. That line up will probably change a bit to make sure the starting 11 is nailed.

No. But if you are happy with your two sub defenders does it really matter? How often have we gone in with a 4m defender who get much game time.

Depends what you mean by viable, if you're set in 3-5-2 virtually every week then the 3rd striker only needs to be a one pointer bench appeared most weeks like Quaner/Kamara

2nd year in FPL - looking for thoughts on this team. Going for a 433. I know my mids are weak but will rotate 3rd mid with fixtures...

    Patricio, Fabianski

    Azpi, Coleman, Robertson, PVA, Cedric

    Salah, Sigurdsson, Kenedy, Gray, Masuaku

    Auba, Firmino, Arnautovic

Bottomed on the previous article regarding Burnley defenders. I wondered what your thoughts were on a team being the ‘Burnley defense’ of this season made up of mainly 4.5s

I felt the consensus was with Europa league and the 0.5m hike they were better options

          think that's overthinking it

I agree. TLD has a point with the Mendy/Sane comment but I think we're likely to see Sane learn to drift inside more allowing Mendy to overlap. It will add a lot to Sane's game, and City's capacity to break stubborn opponents.

If I HAD to do 4.5 4.0 keepers, who’d be better out of Foster and Fab? I’m pretty sure Foster. I know Fabianski is a better keeper but he could get s good few goals knocked past him with those fixtures and that WHU defence...

Hard to say....one of them will emerge. Forster aswell.....

I'm currently on Fab, but that may well change on preseason form

Fab always scores highly. He was third highest keeper last year.......playing for Swansea

Surely salah can’t match last seasons perfomance and he will be marked a lot tighter this season.
I was thinking Mané would be a decent option

Surely he can. So, they weren’t marking him tight last season??? Lol! Every team they played tried to mark him...didn’t work. Only way to stop him is to injure him as we saw. Some players you just can’t stop...he’s one of them right now.

Evening. I know a little bit too much is invested in midfield here but how does this look?

    Lossl
    Robertson | PVA | Cedric
    Salah | Kenedy | Cairney | Costa
    Kane | Auba | Aguero

    Hamer | Daniels | Quaner | Chalobah

    Thanks

I think so, it's 2 years isn't it? And it's by the time they're 28 and he's mid 20s now so I imagine he'll want to get it out of the way

Assuming he just never leaves England, what can they really do though?

Surely he wouldn't get deported or something.

My attempt to squeeze Kane, Auba, Salah & Sanchez in the same team:

    Patricio
    Cedric, Bailly, Laporte, Tomkins
    Richarlison, Salah(c) Sanchez, Costa
    Kane, Auba

    4.0 - Bennett, Gunnarsson, 4.5

Not as bad as I thought tbh. Could possibly work if you're planning on early WC.

A lot of people here are hyping Martial but Sanchez is going to be the starting striker as he was often used at Arsenal! He's fresh after his first summer off in years, and will score big this season. My captain for the start of the season!

Hi lads, looking for some advice on my squad. Playing 3-5-2. Got 1.5 I could spend just not sure where

    Ederson / 4m
Coleman - Cedric - PVA (Peltier & Keane)
    Lamela - Mane - Sane - Jota - Martial
    Firmino - Augba (Kamara)
