Defence looks to be where Fantasy Premier League managers will concentrate on in 2018/19 when it comes to Manchester United.

No top flight side kept more clean sheets than the Red Devils last season thanks to some stellar work from David De Gea.

However, Jose Mourinho’s men have some work to do to convince Fantasy managers to invest in their attack after an underwhelming end to 2017/18 offensively.

We’ve analysed all the data on Man United to work out which players look best for investment this season.

Fantasy Football Scout members can view that data in the Members’ Area and also read our full analysis of it below to help them pick the best possible FPL team this season.

Gone for triple liv and triple city:

    Foster (fabs)
    Robertson Mendy Shaw Coleman (Cedric)
    Mahrez Mkhi Sane Salah (Gunnarson)
    Forming Tosun (Kamara)

    Thoughts?

Should have a good start to the season! Really not a fan of Tosun, Arnie King and Zaha depending on what happens with him are all better options imo. If Schmeichel goes Chelsea, him over Foster with Fab as a 4?

Pros: Nice spread of reliable big hitters

Cons: Will Shaw and Martial be nailed on for United? Ramsey said to be playing deeper under this new manager. Not sure about Wilson.

Yes been really looking for a spread...all of the big hitters that hurt me last year.

The United boys are short term for sure. Max 2 Gameweeks but could do damage when they’re ownership is low.

Wilson is my big punt. The guy has trolled me but playing against Cardiff and two leaky defences in Everton and West Ham. Austin not guranteed starts

Quite like them at the back and Ryan is a decent keeper.
They also offer a 4.0 (Button) cover just in case.

Do you think there is a better alternative?
I did think Lossl (and Hamer) but they're fixtures are just as bad and I don't think they are as solid at the back.

Going Salah less is not that risky..whm will be a hard defense to break through.. having a balanced team and kane might be the way to go as kane is hungry to score in July and also win the golden boot this year..also firmino and a defender is more than enough pool cover at the onset.city are the team to triple up..

Salah EO means it is pretty risky, but it could definitely pay to go without if you can get the captaincy right - I'm tempted, but I dismissed Salah for ages last season 'in order to catch up' and it pretty much ruined the game for me

Why will West Ham be a hard defence to break? Their new managers style of play is attacking and not particular focused on cleansheets. Also there aren’t major changes to the defence which by all accounts was poor last season.

Are Utd’s fixtures that great for defensive assets at the start of the season?

Their first 5 games are: LEI, bha, TOT, bur, wat.

Man Utd only kept clean sheets in 37% of their away matches last season.

This is little over a third, therefore on average they would only keep a clean sheet in one of the three away matches. Granted there is a high chance of a clean sheet in their first game against Leicester with no Vardy or Mahrez, but by GW3 most of Spurs players should be back, with Kane potentially playing his third game etc so they have a more than fair chance of scoring.

So Utd could easily only keep two cleansheets from their first five fixtures. They could also conceivably keep four or five but i’d except it to be closer to two or three. In which case it isn’t a poor return but certainly not as important as a lot on here seem to think it is.

Plenty of nailed on defenders at lower prices could be very likely to get 2+ cleansheets in their first five rather than risking the rotation risk of the Utd backline to start with IMO.

    1. Athletic Nasherbo
      • 9 Years

The probability United defenders get a clean sheet is great than the lower priced defenders regardless of fixtures.

Still tinkering but thoughts in this for the first few GW’s?

    Ederson - Speroni
    Smalling - Robertson - Cedric - Tomkins - Peltier
    Sane - Mané - Siggy - Martial - Stephens
    Auba - Firmino- King

Would maybe look to change out Martial for Mkhitaryan in GW3

    Cheers guys

We don't know Sarri's preferred line up yet. If RLC is in, I'd expect him to stay in, in which case he'll be nailed in my squad too. Same with an OOP Moses. It's a wait-n-see for me.

I call this Alexandersson theory as I remember everyone having him in their team after seeing him tear it up in pre season for Everton many moons ago. It did not end well.

Closely followed by aguero vs auba

    My 12 th draft

    Pickford
    Robertson Tomkins Daniels
    Salah Sane Mkhi Jota Walcott
    Aguero Firmino

    (Stek Cedric Kamara Peltier)

Thought about my team and my 6-7M players? Downgrade one mid to strenghten my defence?

    Thoughts?

    Ederson
    Otamendi Coleman PvA Douglas
    Salah Sanchez Mahrez Jota Cairney
    Aguero
    (4.0, 4.0, 2x 4.5 strikers)

Plan is to swap out Otamendi after GW2 for whichever 4.0/4.5 defender establishes themselves as nailed in order to get in which ever low budget striker emerges. Has to be a City player out as I have four!

      Comments like this baffle me

A player who had a good 3 month spell and then was abysmal for the remainder of the season goes straight into peoples team

      Why?

        Strange isn’t it.

Especially as there will be so many options at Everton and he might be eased in.

Even when he had his purple patch at the start of the season his finishing was abysmal.

        Not for me Clive.

I’m not a Cardiff fan so take this with a pinch of salt, but I think Madine will get some game time as the big man up front outball for a promoted team trying to pack the midfield/defence.

Potentially, but emery has been very keen to play them together with lacazette as no9 and auba sort of an inside forward on the left.
This is why I have suspicions about mkhi being nailed because I don't think he is

    Likely I'm just clueless but:

Can't you adequately cover city, Liverpool and arsenal (kun, firmino, auba) forwards, who seem most popular, with their midfield and play the ultimate three man front line of Zaha wood tosun (arnie when fixtures turn), if you have salah permacaptain?

Why are expensive strikers so highly sought after if we already have salah captain?

    1. Oooof

Goals pay the rent. Although I agree with your argument.

      1. VanDijksToWatchOutFor

I agree, but all of those strikers can score with their fixtures, and more than midfielders at that price point, no?

It feels like we've been gifted early fixtures and nice midrange prices for strikers and everyone is still chucking 11m at kun and auba then having to punt on promoted midfielders (but maybe those are only punts to me because I don't know anything about the promoted sides)
