A Manchester City defensive double-up and alternative attacking options at Everton are top of our differentials list for Gameweek 4.

We’ve also looked at Brighton’s home match with Fulham where we believe there will be plenty of goals.

All three options we have picked out as differentials this week are in under five percent of teams and could help propel their owners up the Fantasy Premier League worldwide rankings.

Aymeric Laporte (£5.5m)

Ownership: 2.9%

With some uncertainty over the best Manchester City midfield options, suggestions have arisen that there could be merit in doubling-up on their defence, on top of the 33 percent owned Benjamin Mendy (£6.3m).

After all, no side has allowed fewer shots on target than the champions even if they have only kept one clean sheet so far. Upcoming fixtures against Newcastle (home), Fulham (home), Cardiff (away) and Brighton (home) all have strong potential for shutouts.

Centre-back Aymeric Laporte (£5.5m) can offer an additional way into that defence having played every minute of the season thus far, John Stones (£5.5m) and Vincent Kompany (£5.4m) rotating around the Frenchman.

However, the 24-year-old can offer more than just defensive returns as the key set piece threat for the champions so far in 2018/19. His three efforts from dead ball situations led to his goal last week at Wolves, and he now goes up against a Newcastle side that ranks third-worst for set piece attempts allowed in the first three Gameweeks. Furthermore, only Brighton have given away more fouls than Newcastle thus far, meaning there are sure to be plenty of free kicks for Laporte to latch onto in Gameweek 4.

Set pieces were a particular area of strength for Man City in 2017/18, with only Arsenal and Bournemouth netting more goals from such situations than Pep Guardiola’s men.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m)

Ownership: 1.5%

Everton playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) could prove a powerful differential in Gameweek 4. Despite ranking fifth in the league for chances created (eight) he is in just 1.5 percent of teams. His low ownership obviously stems from the more obvious threat posed by cheaper options Richarlison (£6.7m) and Theo Walcott (£6.7m).

But there is still plenty for the Icelandic international to offer in Gameweek 4, especially with Richarlison suspended for the next two league matches. In his role as the Toffees set piece taker, he is top for successful crosses so far in 2018/19 (eight).

The absence of the division’s top set piece target Michael Keane (£5.0m) and Richarlison could damage Sigurdsson’s appeal somewhat, but that may matter little considering the quality of their Gameweek 4 opponents Huddersfield.

The Terriers have conceded nine goals in their opening three matches, having allowed 57 shots and 11 big chances. For all three of those statistics, they rank bottom in the division.

Glenn Murray (£6.5m)

Ownership: 0.9%

Despite having a very favourable fixture in Gameweek 4, Brighton forward Glenn Murray (£6.5m) sits in just 0.9 percent of squads.

Fulham are yet to concede fewer than two goals in a match this season as a result of their ongoing problems at the back.

That statistic opens the door for Brighton to continue their fine form in front of the Amex Stadium faithful.

The Seagulls have found the net five times in their last three home matches, which were against top class opposition Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, the latter on two occasions.

Former Crystal Palace striker Murray has an excellent record when playing at home as well. When he was involved in a home match during the 2017/18 campaign, he played a part in 41 percent of the goals scored.

He continued that form by netting in Brighton’s 3-2 win over Manchester United in Gameweek 2, and can do so again against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

If Haz scores big against Bou and looks near essential with his fixtures coming up, who would you take out to get him?

    A. Salah --> Haz
    Or
    B. Mane --> Haz (-4)

Will WC gw9 to get both Salah and Mane

    Cheers all 🙂

Mane to Hazard minus 4 imo. I did it this week in light of Klopp telling us he was planning to rotate:

      Klopp's presser:

"We have started 3 times in a row with the same line up, that won't be possible too often in the future. I am pretty open (to change team). I want to see who shows (in training), who proves to me. That's the best way. That's one part, and then what fits to the opponent too."

Is it really such a bad idea to triple captain Aguero?

I’ve played this game long enough to know that double gameweeks often flatter to deceive, games in close succession, high tisk of your triple captain not playing both games etc.

Newcastle are dreadful, and a bang in form Aguero who’s NOT injured.

Is anyone gonna do it? I’m severely tempted.

That was Chelsea though, stark difference in contrast between them and City. Double gameweeks are over hyped, and likely fail 9 times out of 10.

Fail 9 times out of ten, utter nonsense. Plucking figures from thin air. Read the comment below.

If it’s nonsense then why have i only ever had like one successful DGW captaincy, along with many others the same who captained the usual suspects. I’ve had high DGW scores also, but usually hardly anything from the captain.

              • 10 Years
              8 years, 3 days ago

You still have to pick the right player. But you have a higher chance of not having a fail in a DGW.

            2. Amsterhammer
              • 10 Years
              8 years, 3 days ago

That will be down to the individual choices that you made in those GW. You’re making a very results orientated assessment based on individual recent experiences. Try and assess the way game operates and rewards points and the probability of scoring points over a possible 90 minutes vs a possible 180 minutes. 180 mins will win more time than 90 mins over the course of 10 seasons. It certainly wouldn’t lose 9 times out of 10 as you have suggested. That’s just bad advice for the community.

The optimal strategy is one which will reward you more often than any other strategy and in this instance it’s using triple captaincy in DGWs. But you can play your own game with a suboptimal strategy if you like and it might win out this season but it won’t over the long term.

Watch a re-run of any attacking performance from City over the last 12 months and you'll see why it's not a bad idea.

        Chelsea still scored twice.

That said I will always save my TC for a DGW, but more likely Kane or Salah when the time comes as they're more likely to play twice in a week than Aguero.

      A few things:

      1) The double gameweeks in 2016/17 and 2015/16 were both great. Scores of near 200 for people who triple captained Aguero or Sanchez (in '16) or Kane/Sanchez (in '17). On all these occasions, players scored upwards of 25 points across their two games. Only an absolutely spectacular/otherworldly SGW performance can match this - like Salah 4 goals & assist for 29 points last year, or Aguero 5 goals vs. Newcastle for 25 points in 2015. These occasions are quite rare.

      2) Only last season did the double gameweeks underwhelm, but even then the popular triple captain picks started and played both games.

Just pointing these out because it seems people are biased towards thinking that DGWs are disappointing based only on the more recent experience.

I do see your points, Sanchez is disregarded in this instance imo though for this season. However these are PAST seasons, i treat every season differently because you have to. What happened lst season can’t guarentee the same thing this season.

It is rare that players play 180 mins both games, and they likely fail in one of them. It’s not really recent experience, DGW’s have disappointed on numerous occasions, and we’re then left moaning saying “why didn’t i follow my gut and captain such a body in GW whatever”

I do see your input though.

        1. Pierce34
          • 10 Years

By all means go with your gut, just pointing out the flaw in the reasoning that DGWs fail - more often than not, they haven't in the past.

You also say "what happened last season can't guarantee the same thing this season". This can also mean that, unlike last season, the DGWs will have high scores 😉

Both bench boosts and TCs in those DGWs produced an extra 20-30 points. In 2015/16, Aguero scored 26 points in DGW34 and Sanchez scored 25 in DGW37. Whenever you played the TC chip and the BB chip, it was a success. Not the case last year of course, but statistically it's a lot more likely to work in a DGW than in a SGW.

If the DGWs are happening in GW36/37 like they have in the past, and Spurs/Liverpool are no longer in europe, but challenging for the title, or even top 4, then I think it's highly likely Kane, and Salah would play 90 minutes x 2.

This. Chances are that at least one prime captaincy pick (Salah, Aguero, Kane etc.) will have a plum fixture during a DGW, with an extra fixture on top of that.

Think it’s completely Insane to be honest.

Not sure why anyone would Trip-C him when you really think about it...

      1) Most people will Captain him so you’re only going to get 1/3 extra points. You need him to score like 5 goals to make it worth while.

      2) Newcastle will play 11 behind the ball, I expect City to win and Aguero to score but don’t think it’ll be a beating like people expect. City 2-0.

      3) I think a Trip-C should be played after gameweek 20. When you’re chasing rank and you can get on a decent differential as opposed to the hands down captain choice. And/or a DGW.

      1. Salah’s Sonnet
        • 15 Years

Couldvery well score 5, it’s not at all unlikely. Trams put up walls against City and they still beat teams by margins. Chasing down rank after gameweek 20, exactly, could be too late by then for it to have any effect at all.

The double gameweek has a additional potential. That's why it makes sense to wait. If your captain plays only one game, then its the same as if you played it in an earlier game week...BUT...if he plays twice...

There's no advantage to playing it in a single GW, is my point, so you might as well wait.

Rookie mistake forced a wildcard into play... alonso vs hazard is my big headache but I’m currently favouring this...

    Fab
    Robbo Mendy alonso
    Wally Lucas Mkhi Salah
    Aguero Mitro Wilson

Bench: Hamer, Gundogan, Wan B, Trippier (flagged)

Too much money on the bench for my liking, Gundogan unnecessary as you're never going to play him

I think downgrade Robbo and Gundogan. It seems like a lot of people are worried about Liverpool fixtures in the near future, so maybe mitigate that risk.

Putting 2+2 together and may be ending up wih 5, but:

    1) Roy Hodgson says he has most of his players available for the visit of Southampton but is keeping the specific team news close to his chest.
    2) Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha omitted by Ivory Coast - Hoever a source close to the team has told BBC Sport: "Wilfried Zaha has been left out for personal reasons, I can't say more than that."

Makes me think Zaha is not going to play this weekend.......

    Good afternoon.

I need some opinions on my proposed transfers. I have 2 FT and 0.5 ITB.

I need Mendy in my team and the obvious switch is Bailly. The only way to fund this is to downgrade Mane. I'm thinking of switching him to either Mkhi, Moura or Walcott. It's a toss up between all 3. I'm leaning towards Mkhi. Who would you prefer?

    This is my team:

    Ederson
    VVD, Luiz, Bailly, Wan B
    Hazard, Salah, Mane, Neves
    Aguero (c), King

    Stek, Peltier, Cairney, Madine

    Thanks

Does Cairney > 4.5/4.4 not work for Bailly > Mendy?

Didn't think of that, but it works. It does mean I wouldn't have to ship Mane, which I was slightly reluctant to do. Thank you

Short-term I'd go with Walcott, Everton have two very tasty home games up next while Arsenal tend to struggle away from home

        • 10 Years

Yes I agree, it's hard to look past those fixtures. Walcott is also the cheapest out of the bunch, which would give me lots of funds to play around with. Thanks
