United’s defence: the key FPL stats on Luke Shaw, David de Gea and co

There is relatively little faith in the Manchester United defence in the Fantasy community at this moment, following their shaky start in August.

The Red Devils were the only “big six” club who didn’t possess a defender with a double-digit ownership in Fantasy Premier League going into Gameweek 4, though Luke Shaw (£5.1m) has just broken through that threshold this week.

Shaw’s popularity surge, however, can be mostly attributed to his attacking threat and cut-price cost, rather than faith in United’s ability to register clean sheets.

Over 500,000 FPL bosses currently own Shaw and they will be anxiously awaiting an update on the head injury that led to his second-half substitution in England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain last night.

David de Gea (£5.9m), who enjoyed a 30%+ ownership before the start of the season, has been sold by more FPL managers than any other goalkeeper this season.

The clean sheet United recorded in the 2-0 win over Burnley was their first of the season and marked the end of a dismal run of seven goals conceded in three league matches.

Has United’s defence statistically been that bad, though, and is the shut-out at Turf Moor a more positive sign of things to come?

    My 3rd attempt of my WC team little kit template with a few diffentials I like it person but would like to gather more opinions and suggestions before next GW obviously a lot can change before it begins I know thoughts?

        Yes scored against us (Liverpool) before the international break just a differential it was between him or Neves, honestly see Salah bouncing back soon enough apparently the Egypt FA have given into his secure use of his copyright images and he scored two last night if not against Tottenham then definitely Southampton will answer you query now

    FPL definitely needs to bring more players into the game. We all pick from a core of about 50-75 players, whilst 400 odd players sit gathering dust, never getting involved in anything. Might as well not even have them on offer.

    Reduce points (and double dipping bonus points) for current spinners (goals, assists, CS etc) and spread some points around more mundane stuff like whatever. That way the selection pool widens and teams become more varied.

    Say this every season, all you need to do is float around here once in a while, pick the popular players and you’ll get a good rank. It’s so simple.

      Reduce all goals by a point (or even two)
      Reduce assist by a point
      Reduce CS by a point
      Bonus points not to include criteria already scoring points (above)
      Give points for defensive mids (somehow)
