Aaron Wan-Bissaka‘s (£5.5m) price increase in Fantasy Premier League is as eye-catching as the £50m move to Manchester United that followed in late June.

In 2018/19, Wan-Bissaka was the much-heralded budget defensive gem, starting 35 of Crystal Palace’s 38 matches and returning 120 FPL points over the course of the campaign.

Wan-Bissaka – who was priced at £4.0m in Gameweek 1 of last season – was on the pitch for all 12 of the Eagles’ clean sheets, while he racked up 18 bonus points to compensate for a lack of attacking returns (no goals, three assists).

A year is a long time in FPL.

Championed for his value for money (26.1 points per million spent) last season, there has been something of a backlash against his price rise this summer.

Still, that hasn’t stopped over one in three FPL managers from drafting Wan-Bissaka into their initial squads.

Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) and Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) are the only two defenders who are proving more popular in FPL at the time of writing.

As we have said before, that 34.1% ownership can perhaps be explained by a number of factors – a nostalgia for his returns in 2018/19, a move to a ‘big six’ club and a higher rate of so-called casuals playing the game at this stage of the year.

We shouldn’t just ignore those FPL managers who have acquired him, though, as there is much to admire about Wan-Bissaka’s game.

Whether there is enough to warrant a price rise to £5.5m is something we’ll be exploring in the Members’ article below.

    Had a lil tinker again.

    Ryan
    Digne | VVD | Zinchenko
    Siggy | KDB | Salah | Moutinho
    Wilson | Auba | Deulofeu

    Thoughts?

      Some thoughts mate:
      - The Chenko situation is too unclear at this point. I think I prefer preparing drafts with Walker (6.0 asset), and if Chenko in fact nails a position, we can invest those 0.5 elsewhere.

      - Siggy KDB Salah, imo, are really good picks.

      - I would downgrade Wilson to King. That could allow you to upgrade Moutinho to Perez and VVD to one of TAA or Robertson. Seems a good move.

      - Interesting Auba pick! I do not see him a lot and I think he can deliver well during the first couple of GWs. I would, however, prefer to look at Mane or Kane.

      Cheers mate

I think having both that defence AND Kane unbalances your team and weakens your bench imo

I would hold off on Harry until I see form if I was you and get him on wildcard if you’re planning an early one...

Thank you for the reply, but I will be going with Kane from the word go. He had a good rest ( finally) , newly wedded ( irrelevant) plus new WHL enough reasons to go for him at this price

    2. EgyptianKing

      - I would use that 1M to upgrade Maddison to Siggy.

      - Will you frequently use Yarmolenko? I deduce you plan to do so, rotating with Catchcart probably. However, if not, downgrading him to a fodder and upgrading Bernardo to KDB may be clever. KDB Salah Siggy is a powerful trio imo.

      - I think Ryan and Trippier may offer you a greater upside comparatively to Lloris and Catchcart.

      - I am not a big fan of Kane to start, as I see more value in other areas, however in general I totally understand that investment.

      Overall, seems a strong team!

Have that in mind Re Maddy to siggy.

Yes. Yarmolenko is in my plans

Cathcart and Lloris a short term plan

Aah I am all in for Kane .

A thought. With now having var. I am guessing that there will be more pens. Holding in the area will be spotted more. Do you think free kick and corner takers will be less imported. I.E free kick is taken. Player in box is pulled down. Pen awarded. Assist goes to man pulled down. Goal to pen taker.

    Any thoughts

Holding in the area has to be really egregious to go to VAR. The new handball rule however will lead to a lot more penalties

Nah I've seen one or two soft ones in the past few weeks from contact in the box during set pieces. I think the new handball rules will be the real culprit.

Players will still be on the end of those free kicks and corners to score

Maybe sigurdsson will be the ideal player in this situation then? If he takes the free kick directly he can score. If he takes the free kick or corner and the striker scores he gets the assist. If he takes the free kick or corner and someone gets fouled for the penalty... then he takes the penalty?

    GW 1-6

    Sterling/Mane - Captain rotation

    GW1 Mane - NOR - H
    GW2 Mane - SOU - A
    GW3 Sterling - BOU - A
    GW4 Sterling - BHA - H
    GW5 Mane - NEW - H
    GW6 Sterling - WAT - H

    Not the worst combination
Leans to Mane & Sterling’s home form.
    Saves 1m on Salah
e.g. allows Coleman to La Porte etc

No guarantee Sterling will play, but early doors I feel he will

    Any thoughts?

I think both Sterling and Mane are great picks (independently of Mane's price I think he'll continue to provide some very healthy returns, which ultimately is the most important thing). However going without Salah, in my opinion, is not the best choice to start.

I can see the scenario where he starts to haul from GW1.

Difficult to choose 2 from the 3....

Thanks. I do fear not having Salah. He is more capable of a run of mega hauls than Mane I think...

          Me too.

Having both can really pay off, but then I think Sterling has to be sacrificed.

But yeah, bottom line I think that not owning Salah may be too dangerous.

anyone considering doubling up with Digne and Coleman, or is it a bit too much? (will be doubling up on Pool defence anyway)

both have chance of attacking returns and clean sheets and good run of early fixtures - plus I'm not really interested in other similar priced options from the likes of spurs/arsenal/man utd

my current thinking is it might be worth it and then swap one to a spurs/Chelsea defender if it doesn't work out after a few gws

Thoughts on this? No out and out captaincy pick. Captain and selected players will be picked bases on fixture difficulty:

    Siggi - Maddison - Zaha - F. Anderson - Redmond

    Vardy - King - Deulofeu

Too many players in the same price range. Makes it difficult to get a premium player when you want one. I mean you're basically guaranteed to need a -4 at least to get Sterling or Salah.

I have, I could free up that 0.5m but I think I prefer the security of a bench player.

Dendoncker is the best 4.5m midfielder for me, the guy runs all over the pitch and definitely has more potential for attacking returns.

Currently planning 5-2-3 with Kane and Aubameyang as rotating captains. Considering getting as many penalty takers into the team ahead of VAR hence Vardy and Milivojevic. Maybe Coleman to Ritchie too.

Who will end the season with more points; Digne or Sigurdsson?

If the latter, who do you think is the best £5.0m defender?

Tierney to Arsenal gains more traction, as Celtic have a announce the signing of a new Left-Back, Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo, which is thought to be Tierney's replacement.

Would you get Tierney in your team if he come at 5.5m, for example?

5.5mil for no cs. No ty.

I’m afraid Arsenal aren’t a very appetising prospect for me and I certainly won’t go near them until after LIV, TOT (GWs 3 and 4). Will wait to see if any good prospects emerge from those tests. I’m fairly committed to operating with 3 high-yield WBs, however, and am loathe to trust an Arsenal inclusion there. In truth, I think I could only be swayed onto an Auba bandwagon off all Arsenal options.

Me too, I'm pondering between Auba and Kane for that premium striker berth. Think may just get Auba.

Probably sensible. Joint golden-boot winner last season and yet a mild differential. Zaha could become interesting if he gets his way, too,

Very unlikely, if you can find 0.5m you could get McGoldrick

No weak links there. Sterling and Mané might hurt you but you can’t have ‘em all!

Yeah, Trippier probably can be Coleman (or from the start or from GW2)

A sticky Toffees start could derail you a little, but very strong in my opinion.

I really like this. Some different additions to most on here.
Maybe swap out Pickford to spread the risk a bit

Think you need to beef up your fwds and a bit less $$ in def. but that’s just my view.

I think that looks nicely balanced. One personal tweak of mine would be to downgrade Ederson to Ryan then upgrade Zaha to KDB.

    Thoughts on Milli over Zaha?

Zaha can be a bit hit n miss I feel. Very attacking player mind you.

Milli well he’s on pens and frees so leaning toward him.

    Thoughts?
