Ashley Barnes (£6.6m) has now gone four consecutive matches without an attacking return.

With so many blanks in a row, his owners are likely looking at whether they should be offloading the Burnley forward ahead Gameweek 8.

That said, the Clarets do face another favourable fixture this weekend as Everton come to Turf Moor. The Toffees have conceded at least twice in each of their last five matches.

However, the complicating factor in assessing Barnes’ potential is the recent form of Chris Wood (£6.2m).

Since the former Brighton and Plymouth Argyle striker last found the net, Wood has scored three times.

Is that a trend that will continue in Gameweek 8? We’ve assessed some of the most recent matches to find out whether Barnes is worth holding or if his colleague Wood is hogging the spoils at Burnley.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

Has Barnes been unfortunate not to score recently?

Lessons Learned from Gameweek 7

Cantwell. This is like arguing for Dilva over Sane because Dilva is more expensive (hypothetically)

Buendia is involved in setting up goals and linking play. Cantwell and Pukki are the most likely goal scorers in any game. It just so happens that the goal scorer is cheaper than the assist merchant. That's meant to be a no-brainer

Why? Pep said it's not serious. He's a doubt for Wolves, not ruled out. And may be back next GW. Nothing has changed regarding Mahrez. Has been playing great since GW1 but remains very rotation prone unless Bilva is suspended/injured.

pep says a lot of things to be honest. Look at KdB's minutes after his injuries last yr.....

I will be shocked if kdB is played vs Wolves, as this would prob mean pep has a problem convincing Belgium he is injured for IB?

And when he has, how often has he played well there?

I recall him playing a handful of times centrally, but most of his appearances that earned him POTY coming from the right.

He played over 20 games centrally last season. Sterling and Sane were the main wide players, and to a lesser extent Mahrez.

A suspension will be good for Mahrez imo. If Pep doesn't change formation it'll be Mahrez, Sterling and Bilva for the wings and Dilva, Gundo and Foden for cm. Think Rodri and KDB are pretty much nailed with just the odd game off.

City’s 7 matches with 2 wide men results in 14 selections:

Sterling has had 6 (Bilva slotted left for 1)
Mahrez has had 4 (Bilva slotted right for 3)

Sterling 6, Mahrez 4, Bilva 4: there is your 14 selections

With no Sane- this comes as expected

Additionally in 7 matches with 3 midfielders it’s 21 selections
Rodri starts 6 (Gundog slotted in v BOU)
KDB starts 6 (Gundog slotting in v Norwich)
David Silva takes 5 times (Guess who - Gundog slotting in twice v Spurs and Everton)

        Rodri 6, KDB 6, Dilva 5, Gundog 4

        There’s your 21 selections
        No surprises there then

Finally, 7 matches with 1 striker

          Aguero starts 5
          Jesus starts 2

          There’s your 7 selections

In summary : looks at glance that Gundog is midfield cover
            Bilva is wide cover
            Jesus is striker cover

All these cover players have chance this weekend due: to Kevin’s injury doubt and Mahrez and Aguero mins. However with no international duty for Aguero - I actually think he will start v Wolves but Jesus was fantastic v Wolves in last league match at Etihad in January.
And Mahrez is brilliant and surely has case to not be left out/ rotated.

Sterling, Dilva, Gundog and Rodri are definite starters for me:

            1. Will it be Mahrez or Bilva wide right
            2. Will it be Aguero or Jesus
            3. Will Mahrez start with Bilva central at expense of Dilva or Gundog?
            4. Will Pep throw Foden in?

    Whatcha reckon lads?

    A) Zinchenko -> Otamendi
    B) Zinchenko/Coleman -> a cheapie (Rico/Lundstram) and bank some $
    C) Save FT and have 2FT over the IB

    Ryan
    TAA, Digne, Zinchenko
    Salah, Sterling(c), Mount, Cantwell
    Wilson, Abraham, Pukki

    Button, Coleman, Deondocker, Soyuncu
    Bank 0.0m, 1FT, WC available

Tough. I wouldn't fancy the Everton double up so would be looking to shift Coleman soon. Coleman > Lundstram could be a goer and covers you nicely if Pep doesn't play Zinchenko

I ditched Coleman for Tomori last week. Happy enough with what he did for me, but happy with the move to Digne/Robbo/TAA with Lund/Tom OTB. Might move one of my main three to Rico too.

Tough one. Could go Auba. But City have 4 good fixtures which Aguero could haul in. So difficult, even from the bench he's a good option

I'm looking to play my WC, this is my current team:

    Pope, Heaton,
    TAA, Otamendi, Aurier, Digne, Rico
    Salah, Sterling, KDB, Cantwell, Mount
    Pukki, Abraham, Greenwood

the team i m thinking of is:

    Pope, Heaton,
    TAA, Otamendi, Tomori, Kelly, Rico
    Salah, Mahrez, KDB, Cantwell, Mount
    Pukki, Abraham, Aubameyang

what are your thoughts and do you think it's worth WC yet with the time i have?

I’d rather own Sterling than Aubameyang

I would think carefully about whether you want to tie up one of your city births with a defender. They look absolutely awful and I believe they'll struggle to keep CS in the PL

On the other hand their attack is absolutely belting. You're making life very awkward for yourself if you either want or are forced by injury to change Salah or Auba

To be fair to Otamendi and Fernandinho, they've conceded one goal in four games when paired together this season.

With WOL, cry, AVL, SOU up next, I can see why Otamendi is appealing, but John Stones coming back from injury could mean a bit of rotation. Just something to consider.

The level of opposition has been appalling and the Watford game was a bit of a freak game. Even in that they looked wide open

They don't pass the sight test for me. Time will tell of course

Fair points, I'm not sure the level of opposition will improve that much over the forthcoming weeks tho 🙂

    According to Simon Stone (BBC):
"Important to note the Bernardo Silva case is NOT one where minimum 6-match ban applies. Was in written form on social media. Player has already expressed regret to FA and Mendy has written in his defence." https://twitter.com/sistoney67/status/1179329559252082688

Not sure how correct that is

    1. MTPockets
      6 years, 10 months ago

      FA rules say:
"Where an Aggravated Breach is committed ...
      48.2 in writing only;
48.3 via the use of any communication device, public communication network (to include, but not limited to, social media) or broadcast media only ...

a Regulatory Commission will not be bound to impose an immediate suspension of at least six Matches for a first such breach, or of no fewer than seven Matches for a second or further such breach. Instead the Regulatory Commission may impose any sanction that it considers appropriate, taking into account any aggravating or mitigating factors present"

May want to hold off transfers until it's decided

Not sure, but the 6 match ban looks a bit harsh in this case surely. Just fine him and make him go to weekly compulsory educational sessions for a couple months.

    Heaton - 4
    TAA - Zinchenko - Soyuncu - Tarkowski - Rico
    Salah - Sterling - KDB - Mount - Donks
    Vardy - Pukki - Wickham

Caught in a few minds here. KDB injury looks like I'll have to play both Rico and Soy/Donks this week. Not ideal

    A. Salah + Wickham > Yarmo + Auba(c) for -4
    B. Zinchenko > Otamendi (security)
    C. Donks > Saka (pre wc punt)

So I'm a little mad, but only myself to blame catching the early price rise bringing Yarmolenko in, now I need to sort KDB.

I only have Kelly to come off the bench vs whu or Soyuncu vs LIV.

I want to bring in Mahrez so I need to cover the four points, but not sure its worth it when KDB will be back after the break.

Anyone else with a similar predicament?

I’m really unsure what to do with him. A 5-0 win for City could see a massive slip if no other City forward cover

I'm swapping him out for this gameweek to Son or Mahrez. Don't want a 10 mill player on the bench and a Son or Mahrez would be a greta differential as many who bought KDB early will just bench him. Not sure it's worth a hit though. My transfer would be for free.

I mean it's 5 days between CL and PL, not sure last night has much baring, despite the obsession with constant rest on here.

I don't have him, so not biased or anything.

Wolves are a tough side to beat for top teams, and Kun is magnitudes better.
