Eight Gameweeks into the 2019/20 season and Sadio Mané (£11.7m) has scored more points than Mohamed Salah (£12.5m).

The Senegalese international has 57 to his name, coming from five goals and two assists.

Meanwhile, his Egyptian colleague, still the most expensive Fantasy asset, has found the net just four times on top of his three assists.

That has made for a total score of 55, two short of his cheaper colleague.

That difference of £0.8m in price between the two players exacerbates the concern Fantasy managers have right now.

According to the official FPL website, Mané is offering a season value of 4.9, compared to Salah’s 4.4.

Thus far, those who spent the best part of an extra £1.0m on the Egyptian international have not got what they paid for compared to those who went with Mané.

With the second international break coming at an ideal time, it means we can assess how the two assets have played so far this season and work out which of them will prove the better option moving forward.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

How do they compare for goal threat this season?

Lessons learned from Gameweek 8

Rico, Lundstram and Kelly (basically BOU, SHU, CPL) rotate nicely for next while as 3rd defender in 3-4-3 or 3-5-2

One always has a favourable game. Another might even occasionally make 1st sub

No, that's what I've done on my WC. I got rid of Tomori to make it happen. I'm monitoring Maddison for Mahrez but currently have a City triple up too: Raz, Mahrez and KdB

      1. TAT
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 9 months ago

Interesting. I'm going a bit back and forth between the premium assets as well on WC, and players like CHO might be important options in making everything add up funds wise.

5.9 for CHO and 7.1 for Maddison is definitely a jump in price.

        1. Jarnathan
          • 9 Years
          6 years, 9 months ago

Maddison is safer but I feel like CHO will outscore him if he nails down that spot. I have an excellent bench, so if you go this route, make sure you can handle rotation.

            • 8 Years
            6 years, 9 months ago

Good point – a bench will be very important with CHO over Maddison. Luckily that price gap between those two might help funding that bench somewhat.

Kun has come off bench in two away games and got points (goal WHam and assist Evert) but Starts all big games at Etihad when fit.
So I’d go Sterling later but Aguero for now as GW10&11 look two tasty home games at Etihad and Sterling’s England mins should be monitored as look at October 2018, March and September 2019 as evidence that he drops out soon after (1-2 games after) stack of England mins.

      Sterling away when Aguero doesn’t start: 20 & 7 Points (average 13.5pts)
Score away when no KDB 2 pts.

      Summary:
Sterling only has one blank when KDB does start (the other two Blanks came when KDB didn’t start)
Sterling racks up points when Aguero doesn’t start.

Sterling tends to get rested 1 or 2 games after internationals (when playing 180 mins for England) - sitting on bench in case needed. Never has as they’ve romped to victories. So 1st sub kicks in.
Jesus tends to start away when fully fit. He wasn’t fully fit v Norwich but tends to start in away matches when he is 100% and Sterling racks up points, especially if KDB is about.
Kun is your home man and Sterling is your away man.

I see now more options upfront than in mid, therefore sterling is better because kun is fighting for tighter place

I just Pukki to Auba and Salah to Mount.

Will get shot of Son soon to get Mané or Salah back by GW13

I've worked my stats and dont believe auba will haul vs shff...and then Sterling has Villa and Southampton

              Auba: Sheff Utd(a), Palace(h) and wolves (h)
Sterling: Palace (a), Villa (h) and Southampton (h)

So on paper City have better fixtures (just) but Auba has been great source of points in FPL.

Maybe for one move this chap should go Aguero to Auba!?!?

I've got Sterling, KDB and Kun...

I think funds are calling for Auba though and your very helpful insight has me leaning ever further toward dropping RS.

RS is a wonderful asset that people lose patience with. His ceiling can each 20 more than Aguero with extra goal points and clean sheet points but I’m gonna keep Triple A frontline Auba, Aguero and Abraham for a few weeks then will move one to Vardy or cheaper when I bring Mane/Salah or both into the fray. Might even consider RS by then.

Points sample is 2 months - so maybe agree too small.
International analysis is over 12 months and last 3 IBs so that’s sensible data
Aguero starting at Etihad when fit in CL and PL is factual over past 9 months covering 15 matches in both comps.
Sterling is recommendation for run of away games but Aguero should Be considered for home matches. Both good calls but review of past 2, 9 or 12 months should not be ruled out for future predictions

On the basis of the last 6 gwks and the next 3 fixtures. Kun and it isn't close. Rested for next game then 2 easy home games. scored twice as many points as Sterling over the last 6 gwks.

Should FPL managers own Salah or Mane with upcoming fixtures. Is this a serious question? Come on guys. Fixtures are irrelevant when it comes to Liverpool. They are so much better than the rest of the league barring City. Their points potential is the same regardless of who they play. In fact you could argue that it's even higher against the better teams who don't park the bus. For some reason many were viewing the Arsenal game as a difficult fixture for Liverpool. It was no surprise to me that they won the game comfortably. Even against City with that mess of a defence now, I expect Liverpool to score at least 2. I have Mane in my team and he won't be going anywhere all season.

100% agree. I dont understand the chatting about getting rid of Mane. In the form of his life, been putting balls awa left and right all of 2019.

its a bit harder with Salah, but unless you have very good use of the money you get I would not remove him either. Like there are no big hitters that are that pressing?

Only Auba maybe, but he is a 6-8 point steady hero, with Salah/Mane 12+ points in a match is very possible.

    Alexander-Arnold, Lundstraam, Rico, Kelly, Janmaat

Mane, Sterling, Salah, De Bruyne, Nakamba

He has similar goal threat to Luiz and is 0.8 cheaper. Wouldn't go near Tierney/Bellerin until they start a few games in a row, but even then they will probably be rotated sometimes.
