One of the world’s best FPL managers, Tom Freeman, takes a closer look at Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur in his latest Pro Pundits piece.

In my last article, as part of the Pro Pundits initiative, I talked Wolverhampton Wanderers, with a specific focus on Matt Doherty (£6.0m).

Since then, the unbeaten run has continued and now stretches to an impressive nine games, despite the Europa League commitments.

With West Ham United next, and importantly, a Gameweek 18 tie at Norwich City, I still think Doherty is worth considering, if you can work him into your structure.

Thanks largely to Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.1m), Kevin De Bruyne (£10.2m) and Lys Mousset (£5.1m), who now has seven attacking returns in six appearances, a Gameweek 14 score of 61 leaves me with an overall rank of 42,126.

Focusing ahead to Gameweek 15, and beyond, Tottenham Hotspur are a team I’ve looked at.

Jose Mourinho’s system to date has been effective, particularly on the attacking side, with Serge Aurier (£4.9m) one of the main beneficiaries.

What we’ve often seen is Aurier high up the pitch, playing as a winger, while the left-back has tucked inside to form a situational back three in possession.

You can see this back three, and how advanced Aurier is in comparison to Jan Vertonghen (£5.2m), from their average positions map versus Bournemouth below.

This transforms Spurs shape into something resembling a 3-2-4-1 when in possession.

Whilst Aurier is on my Watchlist, Dele Alli (£8.5m) is the player I want.

It’s a move I decided on last week, having read this quote by Mourinho:

A talent like Dele, he has to be a top, top player. This boy also has that extra of arriving in the box in finishing positions, he’s tall, he’s good in the air, he has to take the best of himself, when the ball is in wide positions, he has to be also in the box as a second man in the box. For me, he is a player who has to play as a second striker.

A quick look at Alli’s shot locations below over the last two Gameweeks suggests he can get back to his best level under Mourinho.

In my opinion, he will keep pace with Son Heung-min (£9.8m), for a smaller outlay. Now I just need to decide when to pull the trigger.

Another midfielder heavily discussed in the community is Wilfried Zaha (£6.6m), who has scored in successive games.

December’s fixtures look kind but will he get consistently good chances week in, week out? I’m not convinced.

Crystal Palace are a team who don’t take many shots, only Southampton have taken fewer this season, and their 16 big chances is the lowest in the league.

Roy Hodgson’s approach is safety-first, which makes me think investing in Palace’s defence is the way forward. With Martin Kelly (£4.1m) emerging as an option following the injury to Joel Ward (£4.5m), it won’t cost you much.

A player at that midfield price point I do like is Jack Grealish (£5.9m). He’s deservedly been picking up a lot of praise recently, and whether he’s playing on the left or in a central midfield role, he’s creating chances (only De Bruyne has supplied more this season), and is now adding goals to his game.

With a Sheffield United triple-up now in place, as I talked about in my article a few weeks back, here’s how I’m set up for Gameweek 15.

Though I will likely roll a transfer, Aurier, Grealish and Alli are all on my Watchlist.

In terms of captaincy, if it ain’t broke… Jamie Vardy (£9.9m).

He scored his 13th league goal of the season against Everton on Sunday and is fast becoming my go-to captaincy option, especially at home, where he’s averaging just over eight points per game.

Thanks for reading… until next time.

Tom Freeman – aka avfc82 – comes onto the team to make most of us feel wildly insecure about our overall rank history. A long-time Fantasy Football Scout user, he has finished inside the top 1,000 a staggering five times since 2009.

Zaha seems a trap despite fixtures.

Grealish or JWP more consistent this season. Leaning towards Grealish.

Would keep Mount a week but have 2FT

He could be but I think it's worth taking into account the difficulty of fixtures as well when considering consistency, Palace probably had the worst fixtures in the league so far.

Looking at the fixtures from now on until around gw30, i’m starting to convince myself Pope=>Guaita is worth a hit in the long run.

With current fixture congestion en no Pulisic/abraham atm i dont think i’ll have any spare FT’s in the near future to make the keeper swap

Am I right to be scared of not having any MCI for the BUR fixture this GW?

MCI are top of the xG over the last 4 Away GWs. Whilst BUR are low on the xGC at Home stats, against 'big' teams they are conceding heavily (LIV 3, CHE 4).

Should I accelerate my plan to bring back KDB for a -4 for either Mount (AVL) or Maddison (WAT) or hope that MCI remain off form?

Damn confusing answer lol. They’ll smash them but don’t bring any in?

He probably will outscore by four points but he also eats up 3 and a bit million you could use in a different way next week

I just saw MOTD and I must say I'm not impressed with Palace and Zaha. Extremely lucky to get the CS and those 2 goals they scored came after 2 big individual mistakes by Pope and Mee. No big chances in rest of the game.

From the other teams, Grealish looks really dangerous and Sheffield plays some very good football. Their defence is still good and Mousset looks good. May even bring him as a third striker with 5 playing midfielders and to rotate one of the front 8 on the bench every week.

Which team do you think will be on the receiving end of a hiding due to small squad and or 3 games in a week?

    Burnley and Watford

Planning my moves over next 2 gw's. Will phase it once i know which direction to take.

    Pope -- Heaton
Taa Lundy Tomori -- Rico Lascelles
Kdb Mane Martial Mount -- Cantwell
    Vardy Rashford Ings

    A: Martial + Mount + Lascelles >> Pulisic + Alli + Kelly (-4)
    B: Martial + Mount + Lascelles >> Maddison + Alli + 4m def (-4)
    C: Martial + Mount >> Son + Grealish
    D: Marital + Mount >> Alli + Zaha

I'd bench Tammy unless you are certain he will start. If he is better but not fully fit by then, he might come in for the last 20 min or so while Soyuncu has one of the best fixtures possible.

His ceiling isn’t very high historically and Palace not been scoring many. Grealish just interests me more?

Mount to Grealish this week? Zaha means I can’t get Son in after, but have 2FT 2.0 ITB.

    Pope 4.0
    TAA Soyuncu Lundstram Rico Kelly
    Mané KDB Mount Maddison Dendoncker
    Vardy Lacazette Jimenez

    🙂

I know you think Zaha a trap but I would bring him in and can always move to Grealish week 18

Would personally rather save a FT and hope for save points than do Pope to Guaita at this busy point in the season. Henderson Costa 0.1 more, so only option kinda considering is Krul, funny enough. But inclined to stick with Pope unless dropping in price I think.

Mount to Pulisic I could do. However, means I can’t do Maddison to Son straight (as I could with Grealish, but not with Zaha either). Also feel Pulisic couldddd be due a benching?

    Pope
    TAA-Souyncu-Lundy-Tomori
    Mane-KDB-Maddy-Mount
    Vardy-Jimenez

    Abraham, Chambers, Cantwell

    1 FT
    A. Pope to Hendersson
    B. Mount to Pulisic

      B.

Unsure if Henderson is A better pick than Pope:

      Points:
      Ryan 60
      Pope 55
      Hendo 54
      Guaita 42

      CS:
      Ryan 4
      Pope 5
      Hendo 5
      Guaita 4

      Saves:
      Ryan 56
      Pope 42
      Hendo 37
      Guaita 31

      Bonus points
      Ryan 11
      Pope 6
      Hendo 2
      Guaita 3

Weirdly, can’t bring myself to change any of my defence right now even with Spurs/Liverpool/others maybe creating more options nowadays.

Pope (set and forget) McGovern (4.0)
TAA (...) Soyuncu (LEI flying, nailed) Lundstram (Lord) Kelly (nailed for now with good fixtures) Rico (bought at 4.0, nailed but fodder now)

And with the options at fwd/ mid I’m playing 352/343 moving forward unless things change!
