One of the biggest deals of the January transfer window saw Jarrod Bowen move from Hull City to West Ham United for a reported £22m.

The versatile winger, 23, signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with the Hammers on deadline day and could be poised to make his debut in Gameweek 26, having not arrived in time to be eligible to face Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend.

Price up by Fantasy Premier League as a £6.5m midfielder, Bowen moves to east London with a reputation for scoring goals: the ex-Hull prospect had found the back of the net on 16 occasions in 29 Championship appearances this season before his big-money move.

Bowen spent a lot of his time as an inverted winger on the right flank at the KCOM Stadium but has also deputised as an auxiliary centre-forward and in ‘the hole’, which presents him with a number of different routes into the Hammers’ starting XI.

Upon Bowen’s capture, West Ham manager David Moyes said:

We are delighted to welcome Jarrod to West Ham United. I think he could be a big success.

He’s probably what you’d call a wide forward these days, or perhaps an old-fashioned inside-right. He has played a couple of games as a second centre forward or as a no.10.

When you score goals like he does, and in the numbers he does, in the Championship, it will give you a great chance of scoring goals in the Premier League. We were attracted to the goals he has scored over the years; not just in one year, but over the last three years.

The player himself said:

I know this is the next step at another level. People expect me to score and I’ve put myself in that position. It’s a challenge I relish and one I’m looking forward to because scoring goals in the Premier League and winning games for this club would be unbelievable.

The fans will always see 110 per cent when I play, and I think that’s the main thing – and then with everything else, I just try to excite people and get people off their seats.

What can we Fantasy managers expect from Bowen in the remaining third of 2019/20, then?

Our Scout Report below uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, so only those who have signed up to valid packages will be able to access it in full.

The History and Statistics

Born in December 1996, Bowen was knocked back by Aston Villa and Cardiff City in trials as a youth.

He began his career in earnest with local club Hereford United, progressing through the academy side and into the first-team set-up at the tender age of 17.

The young attacking midfielder made eight Conference Premier (now National League) appearances at the back-end of the 2013/14 season, scoring once and helping the struggling Bulls to survival – although his hometown club were subsequently expelled from the division for financial reasons.

Bowen then made the move to Hull in July 2014, although featured only for the under-18s and under-21s in his first two campaigns on Humberside.

Finally making his Tigers debut in August 2016 in an EFL Cup tie, Bowen went on to make seven Premier League appearances (as a £4.5m FPL forward) as first Mike Phelan and then Marco Silva were unable to prevent Hull from dropping into the second tier.

The 2017/18 campaign was Bowen’s breakthrough season as he immediately established himself as a first-team regular under Leonid Slutsky, consolidating his place in the starting XI even after the Russian had departed.

Bowen was an ever-present last season (only one of his 46 league run-outs came as a substitute) and was again integral to the Hull side in 2019/20, not missing a single minute of Championship football until his move to east London in late-January.

The new West Ham midfielder made 124 league appearances for the Tigers in total, scoring on 52 occasions.

Thoughts on this move guys. Having my worst season so far so i really don't mind taking the hits and having a bit of fun. Also considering TC Agueroooo. Any advice is most welcomed.

      either that or wc imo

Digne gets a tough run, Kelly is out of the team and SHu blanks in 28. Trossard and Cantwell and Mousset, i´m not a fan of that combination. Kun tc in a sgw you must be 100% certain he starts which you can´t be, even if i think it´s most likely. If having the worst season, then KDB out, with City going into a patch where they have tough schedule might be a thing to look at? Not before WHU of course.

-8 for Kun whom you most likely would want out soon, i would rather wc then and get him for "free", fix defense so you got double liv def, double shu def and better options as the cheap enablers in mid and attack. Some names pop up in my mind, Lascelles, VVD, O connell, Son or Alli, Kun, Traore, Mooy and you need to deal with Mousett. Barnes, Jimenez, etc also worth considering.

On a WC in Vietnam (not sure the relevance of this but i'm off work due to nationwide panic over coronavirus so i'm going crazy).

    Which attack combo is better?

    A) Salah, KDB, Son, H.Barnes, Grealish
Ings, Jimenez (Martinelli or ShLong) 352 & double LIV defence

    B) Salah, KDB, Son, H.Barnes or Grealish (Hayden)
Ings, Jimenez, Firmino 343 & slightly cheaper defence

    C) Salah, KDB, Son, H.Barnes (Mooy)
Ings, Jimenez, C.Wood 343 & double LIV defence

In B, it would mean having Egan over Stevens, Pope over Henderson to save funds.

Sorry for the lengthy post but any help would be greatly appreciated to try and turn my season around!

  14. @persecuted_by_mods

What I've found with a lot of FFS talk is ignoring a future game, has anyone else spotted this? E.g if Liverpool play Sunday and then
next Saturday people will say that's enough of a break to not need a rest on Saturday, but it totally ignored the next match so if the match after Saturday is on Tuesday even though gw1-2 has a nice break 2-3 doesn't therefore still a rest risk.

Salah surely won't play 90 considering atletico is 3 days after Norwich

Probably overthinking it, players need a game to be match sharp. I expect still a full strength line up. If they’re up two goals plus by mid second half then the premiums may come off earlier but I think to be benched is v unlikely.

you need to factor in a lot things that Klopp also thinks of when he selects his team. Does his best players (that are meant to play in CHL) need a game to remain match fit (if two weeks off and then just thrown in for a CHL is that smart?) or is 30 minutes enough, i´m leaning on the first one and the way Liverpool, play this season the difference between 60 or 90 minutes not always that significant as they often just control the games, which is not as exhausting. Also, will Mané play from start or sub can impact on salah´s minutes, my point is there´so many factors to this and we can´t know all of them so while i don´t think people ignoring this it is difficult to judge how it will turn out. My reason for capping Kun is that it is 2 weeks until next game for them and this could also mean if they have that day when they score for fun they don´t need to stop, while Liv could very well just put on the cruise control with the game vs ATL Madrid so close after. Still, it could turn out that Kun not involved in a 5-0 mauling and salah gets a brace in a 2-0 victory.

    Mane is an interesting one.
He starts imo. And plays maybe 90 mins. He has been seen training at Liverpool with Milner. Would’ve have had 3-4 weeks rest - and would need minutes under his belt, to get him up to speed for the CL game.

Stevens if budget allows, otherwise O'Connell. (Assuming you have cover for GW28).

From GW29, with Pool, Wolves and Leicester having such good fixtures, I'm thinking of playing 4 at the back.

Something like TAA, Robbo, Pereira and Doherty in a 4-3-3 formation with Salah, KDB, Barnes in midfield & Vardy, Jimmy and Ings up front.

    What do you think?

You’ll want salah and mane double up

Not sure about that tbh. You can only captain one of them, plus there's a good chance Klopp could start rotating now the league is won and concentrate on the CL.

Which one is better for GW 26 especially for differential :

    A. Maddison + Mane

    B. Maddison + Son

    C. Moura + Mane

I'd go B if you have Salah.

      B. Maybe even Bergwijn instead of Maddi

I already have Salah, yeah i think son much safer than mane for gw 26..

it just Liverpool play better than Spur so far.. mane might got points if he play, son looks hard to explode without a lone striker ( kane is injured )

I wanna get rid of maddison, still confuse who, only have 0.1 in bank

Still need a couple of match to see how Bergwijn adapt

        my team :
        Henderson
        taa - lund - aurier - holgate - tomori
        mane - salah - grealish - maddison - hayden
        ings - vardy - jimenez

Which will get most points over next two:

    A) Stevens (BOU, BHA) + Vardy (wol, MCI)

    B) Ings (BUR, AVL) + VVD (nor, WHU) -4

Leaning towards B atm. Thinking the hit is inevitable going up to BGW.
