Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m), Raheem Sterling (£11.5m), Sadio Mane (£12.0m), Mohamed Salah (£12.0m), Bruno Fernandes (£10.5m), Jamie Vardy (£10.0m) and Nick Pope (£5.5m) are among the first players to be priced up by Fantasy Premier League ahead of the game’s imminent relaunch.

De Bruyne has been handed a starting price of £11.5m, which is up £2.0m on what it was a year ago.

That’s exactly the same as what Sterling will set Fantasy managers back in the coming campaign.

Salah, who finished second behind De Bruyne in the overall points standings, has dropped in price for the second season in a row.

The Egyptian will now be available for £12.0m, having been £12.5m at the beginning of 2019/20 and £13.0m a year before that.

Salah and Mane can’t be split, with the Senegalese winger listed at the same price as his teammate.

Just as importantly, Salah, Mane and Sterling remain FPL midfielders – which pretty much guarantees that there won’t be much deviation from previous seasons’ policy surrounding player classification.

De Bruyne was FPL’s highest-scoring asset of 2019/20, registering 13 goals, 23 assists and 35 bonus en route to his total of 251 points.

He ended the season at £10.6m, having reached a high of £10.8m earlier in the campaign.

Salah racked up 29 attacking returns, finding the back of the net on 19 occasions and losing his grip on the Golden Boot, which he had at least a share of in the previous two seasons.

Both players have been on penalty-taking duties for their respective clubs, of course.

James Milner is first in line for spot-kicks on Merseyside but had limited first-team opportunities last season, with Salah deputising in his stead.

Mane, who was admittedly only one attacking return away from matching Salah’s tally last season, has never outscored the Egypt international for FPL points in their time together at Anfield.

De Bruyne was the beneficiary of penalty misses from several other Manchester City players, meanwhile, assuming control in the second half of the campaign and converting four spot-kicks in league and cup; Sterling’s failure from 12 yards in Gameweek 37+ surely only aiding the Belgian’s long-term prospects.

Sterling had a real rollercoaster season in 2019/20 and drops half a million in price this time around.

No FPL midfielder scored as many goals as the Manchester City winger (20) in 2019/20 and yet for large chunks of 2019/20, he was largely overlooked by the FPL community.

A great spell of form after the restart rekindled interest in a player that had looked off the boil midway through the campaign, with five of his nine double-digit hauls coming from Gameweek 30+ onwards.

A total of 206 points was his lowest in three seasons – a lack of assists accounting for that – but he nevertheless passed the 200-mark for the third straight year.

Handed an even bigger price rise than De Bruyne but still cheaper than the three premium midfielders we have already discussed, Fernandes will set Fantasy managers back £10.5m ahead of 2020/21.

The Portuguese playmaker had a better points-per-match average (8.4) than any FPL asset last season, having recorded eight goals and as many assists in his 14 league starts.

Initially costing £8.0m upon his move to England, Fernandes had risen to a high of £9.1m by Gameweek 37+ after a superb start to his Manchester United career.

We’ll be able to better assess Fernandes’ value when we see how FPL handle both the prices and positions of Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, but it’s safe to assume that those three attackers will be handed significant price hikes too.

United, like their cross-city rivals, may not even be in the picture in Gameweek 1, should their start to 2020/21 be delayed by their ongoing involvement in the European competition.

As for Pope, he gets an expected price hike after he topped the goalkeeper standings in 2019/20.

While Fernandes, Sterling, Salah and De Bruyne will still be attractive options to many despite their premium tags, Pope’s rise to £5.5m will likely deter a lot of Fantasy managers.

Alisson and Ederson were the only goalkeepers who cost more than that last season.

The Burnley shotstopper was originally available for £4.5m at the start of 2019/20, rising to a high of £5.2m by the season’s end.

A total of 15 clean sheets and 120 saves helped him to a final score of 170 points.

It should be said that, had he finished the season at £5.5m, he would still have been the best-value goalkeeper in FPL based on the points-per-million metric.

Elsewhere, Vardy has risen to £10.0m after his Golden Boot-winning campaign.

That’s as expensive as the Leicester City striker has ever started a new campaign in FPL, although he did rise to £10.1m in the season just gone.

Vardy averaged fewer points per match (6.0) than the five premium midfielders above in 2019/20 but is cheaper than all of them this time around.

Tomas Soucek has been given an appealing £5.0m price tag, meanwhile.

The West Ham United midfielder scored on three occasions in the final seven Gameweeks and posed a real threat in the air following his move to east London in January.

Leeds United midfielder Pablo Hernandez will cost £6.0m, half a million less than Brighton and Hove Albion summer signing Adam Lallana (£6.5m).

I want to see Mason Greenwood.

He's to me the most interesting pricing dilemma. He could be a mid or a forward. He could be 6.5m or 9.5m. Probably would go for 7.5m FWD if it were me, but he's very hard to categorize/price. Will also shed a lot of light on FPL's stance on pricing this season and how they are going to handle wide forwards in the game.

I don't think they'll release his price early. His potential is too dependant on incoming transfers.

KDB, Salah, and Sterling are immune to that problem.

If the Manchester clubs starts later than the rest, then I am really interested in the Mané & Salah double up (moving away from the double Pool defense). Mané, Salah, Auba (if mid) and Son are such good placeholders for when you want KDB, Sterling and/or Fernandes in your team.

Mané, Aube/Salah & Son could become KDB, Sterling & Fernandes in GW3 (-4).

    +50m midfield too much?

8.5 keepers (The next Ryan/Button perhaps the Leeds combo?)
    25.0 defenders (1 premium )
    50.5 midfield (4 premiums)
    16.0 attack (whatever is possible)

Feels like the FPL team are on their lunch break, so worth a quick recap.

    So far we've had:

    Kevin De Bruyne - Midfielder - £11.5m
    Mo Salah - Midfielder - £12.0m
    Raheem Sterling - Midfielder - £11.5m

What are your initial reactions to these prices?

Seems midfielders are all being priced quite kindly, perhaps in an attempt to tempt us in different directions and to get a bit bolder with our picks.

Will any of these 3 be in your teams?
Which prices are you looking out for next?

Surprised with KDB 11.5 tbh, thought he’d be 12 or even 12.5m

Might come down to who else is in my team - if I'm not regularly capping them I think I prefer the more consistent KDB...

all fair, no massive surprises - only Mane & mid-Auba can really challenge these 3

want either Werner/Martial OR a position change reveal (not Antonio)

      All great prices!

If KDB wasn't on penalties I'd be on Sterling over him. I still might prefer Sterling as he massively under performed last season.

I still want to own both KDB + Sterling as my premium mids and triple up on Pool in defence.....it was a disaster the first half of last season though and I never really recovered from that (among a few other variables).

Sterling underperformed with assists by so, so far yeah - got to be considered. I keep going back and forth between the two, must admit they've got their pricing dead on there.

Does KDB take pens with Aguero back?

      Sterling and Salah.

Salah is too cheap now . They effectively are saying pick a team with 88 million to spend. Salah comes included. Very poor from FPL. why not mix it up a bit

At those prices, I feel it makes not owning Salah a pretty big mistake.

Whether the others will be in my team depends on pricing of other players. Liverpool defence and the united boys in particular.

Sterling over KDB for me as he finished the season so well, I think he could score 25 this season. Salah over mane is an obvious one for me I think mane at 12m is a pricing mistake from FPL.

Bruno at 10.5 is a fair price but I doubt he will make my gameweek 1 team.

      Interesting!

Can absolutely understand why they downgraded Salah after his away horror show this year (ask anyone who dared captain him in an away match this season while Mane started) - though that in & of itself helps us out tremendously as well provided Liverpool have kind opening fixtures

But seriously can't believe how cheap we're getting KDB & Bruno - that's some absolutely ridonckulous FPL firepower for only 22.0 - those two could start at 25.0 between them next season, easily

All being well with defensive prices - I'll be looking at a team with a big old arse on it - something like this from GW3 onwards:

      4.5, 4.0
      TAA, VVD, Laporte, Doherty (4.5)
      KDB, Bruno, Greenwood, Soucek (4.5)
      Werner, Mitro (4.5)
      ~0.5 ITB

      For GW1:
      - Bench Laporte for the 4.5 Def
      - Start with Salah instead of KDB (1 FT Booked)
      - Start with Pulisic or Son instead of Bruno (2 FTs booked)
      - Figure out something for Greenwood's slot - probably just bench him for the 2 GW's & take 4 points from a 4.5 rather than booking another FT
      - GW3 - Salah & Pulisic/Son > KDB & Bruno for 2 FTs

Yup, not a million miles away from my opening strategy. Except I'll avoid Son due to Spud's EL shenanigans that interfere after GW2.

Be interesting to see what midfielders do we get in that weird little "less than 10.5 but more than 8.5" price bracket

Who would normally land in there? e.g. Pepe/Son last season

          Ziyech/Havertz/Pulisic?
          Coutinho?

Can't really think of any others off the top of my head..

I'd be very surprised if both Havertz and Coutinho end up in the Premier League.

As for Pepe, hopefully he won't be a penny more than 7.0 😛

Mahrez as well, Rashford if mid, but not many for sure.

I'm looking to do a 2FT for GW3 losing Vardy and a 7m for KDB and Adams (for example)

The reason KDB’s price is a mistake is because he’ll be even more nailed with Dilva gone next season and Man City won’t take chances benching him in lesser games like they did early in last season. He’ll play every game imo. But yeah, he’s definitely nailed for me.

    1. Moderately content penguin

He really didn’t get benched much at all before restart. Would imagine Pep would bench him again for a Norwich type fixture. For a while he was level with Liverpool mids for minutes

The “mistake” may be if he gets pens. City had plenty last time

The members area provides stats. Not so much on actual team construction. I use them for the comparison tool and my own stat tables to identify players who have strong underlying stats.

The RMT section is usually good for that.

You put in your team ID and it shows projections for your team in the coming weeks. It's not a predictive tool, but a squad management tool. It enables you to spot weeks you may struggle to field a decent 11, or have no real strong captain.

I only just got membership, but pre season how can you rate your team with it? Putting in your id won’t load your hidden team into it.
I thought people were always using that pre season? Isn’t there some way to manually select players for it without linking your id?

It's loads your team from the last visible GW. You can also manually enter your team yes, and amend the one that loaded.

10.5m or 11m. Any less and he's a steal. Highest PPG since he joined the league and with a formidable record of goals scored as well in Portugal. The only reason he was priced low last season was because United were awful until he joined.

KDB seems slightly cheaper than expected and apart from Mane we have who would probably be the 4 most expensive players in the game.

Really hope that means Kane, Auba, Kun come in as 10.5 fwds to offset the extra mid points and then some interesting decisions will have to be made.

    1. diesel001
      • 9 Years
      6 years, 16 days ago

Kane in a Moaninho team should be 9.0m max.
Kun is an injury risk so only good to transfer in for spells only.
Auba would be interesting, but he will be 11.0m as that was his SP for the last two seasons and he scored the same number of points in both.

So we will still be in the age of the 'death of FPL forwards'

Because he is feeding of scraps most of the time. The Bournemouth game was typical of what will happen to Spurs, IMO. Kane is a much better than average finisher, but he still needs chances. And the number of chances he is getting now pales in comparison to those that Salah, Sterling, Aguero, Jesus, Mane etc are getting.

I really hope FPL towers recognise the dying influence of the premium fwds and price them that little bit more accordingly to prevent midfield dominance or templates.

As for Kane, I saw some good stuff after the restart, Id certainly consider him from the start at a friendlier price and with okay fixtures.

They don't value keepers 4.5 anymore unless there is a rotation risk or it's a newly promoted or team that's likely to be in relegation fight.

The reason Pope was 4.5 was because of uncertainty/rotation risk between him and Heaton.
