Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m), the highest-scoring Fantasy Premier League defender of 2019/20, has been handed a small price rise ahead of the new campaign.

Many of us had feared a climb to £8.0m or above and, as a result, he’ll be one of the first names on the teamsheet for a lot of Fantasy managers.

Indeed, at the time of writing, he features in more than twice as many embryonic FPL squads as any other defender.

Having started last season at the same price as his teammate, Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) is now available for half a million less.

Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) is cheaper still, while Joe Gomez (£5.5m) is the budget route into what became the first-choice back four in the Reds’ title-winning year.

Is Alexander-Arnold a no-brainer, then? Can Robertson compete with his fellow full-back? And is double Liverpool defence worth considering?

We run the rule over the reigning champions’ backline in this Members article.

I really hope the likes of Kammy io are up and running again this year. I really enjoyed being able to see transfer predictions of other teams.

FPL took away the ability to see how many transfers had been made ahead of the deadline last season. Hopefully this feature has been reinstated.

TAA basically is another attacking asset at 7.5.

No other players lurking around at that price which will get 200+ points.

He just makes so much sense to have in your team.

7.5 is such a low entry price. He is template yet again. If he was 8m, then maybe some would’ve gone for Robbo instead.

        It means nothing.

United fan but still don't think ole is a great manager tactically, Pogba can become a liability any moment, no cover at most forward positions. Squad is bare shell except keepers.
If Juve really want dybala-pogba swap, we should get that with some cash done. Same with smalling-perisic. Buy van de Beek/grealish and ndidi/saul and out mid is sorted. Get upamecano and reguilon and we have a good squad. Should be within budget as well

Since SAF, we've tried LVG and JM among the biggies and neither could get us the title. It's also to do with our scouting and recruiting and of course Mr. WW.

Sorry but not sure of either of those. I think both can fall or improve and not a case of either.

Teams have seen how Klopp sets up his team and played against them a few times now. But that's not to say Pool will get worse. Meanwhile, United definitely needs new players esp in midfield and needs to SELL Pogba (maybe I'm biased but just don't think he is a positive influence on the team).

Like I say, its their's to lose. If they can regain the same vigour that helped them dominate the league last year, then it will be tha same result. LFC are the last team that I would personally like to see win the league. However, they showed so much grit, fight and motivation to win, that it will be hard for anybody to beat that, if they can maintain the same levels of focus and spirit as last year.

No doubt Pool fully deserved it on the merit of last season. But their success was also "inflated" due to the decline of the rest of the pack, especially City. With Laporte back and City looking to invest in their backline, I don't think we'll see a repeat like City's loss to Norwich! If City too keep up, it might be neck and neck like the season before.

            1. Soto Ayam
              • 6 Years

That's a good point. However, they'll need more than laporte, or a steady defence to win. Last year, LFC had a better mentality, and I attributed that mainly to klopp. Plus they had the motivation of losing the league by a single point the previous and not having won the league for 3 decades. Now that that motivation is gone (except for Klopp) I'm really intrigued as to how they'll respond this year. I think city will have more motivation this year and should have enough to win the league, but only if last year's LFC don't turn up

That's a huge if. Once you reach a goal you've been working on forever, the tendency is to not fight as hard. It's tough to motivate players. Look what happened after Pool won the league ..

              • 6 Years

Yes. It is a huge if, and you're quite correct in saying that motivation drops once targets are achieved. Also, they won't have the crowd advantage when playing at home. If they can repeat, then it will be an even more impressive achievement than last season. Time will tell

Don't OGS has done bad tbh. He has a habit to running his players to the ground which can hurt over a long season esp with United in CL too. I think we are 1-2 players short of at least being in contention.

If will take another couple of seasons for Man U to be in the mix. Overall squad not strong enough and at minimum a centre back and left back needed. Not sure that OGS has enough to achieve that either.

Agree that we are not ready to compete. But just like the players, OGS is also a young manager. We need to give him some time which, I admit, at times is frustrating. I don't see there is a silver-bullet manager, so to speak, out there who can get us instant glory.

Depends on Liverpool and City transfer activity.

If the window shut right now, Liverpool. But there's still a long way to go.

Any United fan trying to get involved in title talk must sleep in OGS pyjamas.

What I'm doing is partnering Martinez with another 4.5 - McCarthy, Ryan. Start M, if Leno plays the other 4.5 is in. Ditch M. If M starts, you either have a nice rotation or sell the other one.

Yeah still seems very good value, given his points total last season.

Not for me, no. I think the 3 Red defenders will be a country mile ahead of all other defenders, but of course that extra 1.0m can help elsewhere. I'm on triple Liverpool with Vinagre and Saliba as my 4th and 5th defs.

Don’t think so, Pep won’t want two lefties.

He’s be adamant on the balance Laporte brings to all aspects of play and the same would go for a right foot at RCB.

They’ll play games together but I doubt it’ll be Pep’s proffered pairing, great cover for Laporte.

thanks, yea im 99% certain thats real.
If someone photoshopped that, they would have used a screen from one of last seasons GW's, and composed it with this seasons players. But the fact WBA is one of the fixtures written in white implys its real.
Firstly someone would be too lazy to do that when they didnt need to add a promoted team, and secondly the font FPL use is taylor made and not openly avilable for the public. Theres no errors on the pitch pattern underneath the green boxes either
So 99% real, or 1% chance somone perfectly photoshooped it

Having a play around with a draft which features 3 Liverpool defenders, 3 Man City midfielders, 2 Man Utd midfielders, and a couple of cheapies from Leeds

          Ryan (Button)
          TAA, Robbo, VVD, Dallas (Mitchell)
De Bruyne (c), Sterling, Fernandes (v), Greenwood, Foden
          Bamford (Davis, Wickham)

Any thoughts? Brewster going on loan to a PL club would be a massive boost for people thinking of playing 1 up top

City and United likely to start late. So you will have 5 blankers gw1 and maybe 2

I still think Werner will play out on the wing and Giroud will start

Only reason Giroud was playing was because of lack of options. It is very unlikely he’ll keep his place now that they signed a top level striker. Giroud is far below Chelsea level.

I have not seen Giroud in any other draft.

Giroud will start less than 50% of the games. Will return in 10% in those 50% starts.

If Kun is back and KDB is of pens THEN I think I'll be getting Sterling instead...

I'm starting with a pair of rotating 4.5s, but it's intended to be provisional until the 'right' 4.5 or possibly 5.0 emerges.

            C. 4.5m set and forget. I'll take the Leeds first choice GK.

Cheers.... the Ryan and Button combo or 8.5m is tempting....

Early GW1 skeleton, assuming no City & United.

          Ryan | [Button]
          Vinagre | KWP | C Taylor | Saliba | [Ferguson]
          Salah | Mane | Auba | Son | [D Stephens]
          Werner | Mitrovic | [K Davis]

Going with both Mane & Salah to switch to KDB/Bruno.

How sure are you Werner will be up and running from the start? I'm more prone to wait and see how he does.
