After so many changes figured it was finally time to bust this bad boy out and let it be ripped to shreds. Give it your worst ;). No really absent Salah who i am prepared to forgo where is it deficient?

    Ryan Button
    TAA Doherty Digne Vinagre (4.0m)
    Auba Rashford Zaha (Bisouma) (Reed)
    Kane Werner Mitro

    Thank you!

You think Rodriguez is going to take them?
I concluded he would be a better option, or Everton defensively would be with Allan in the team but take the point on the bench - cheers

Allow me to just leave this selection of players with a better xA/90 than Bruno Fernandes last season (> 1000 minutes played) here:

    Conor Hourihane
    Willian
    Pascal Gross
    Theo Walcott
    Lys Mousset
    Emi Buendia
    Adama Traore
    Billy Sharp
    Ross Barkley
    Nicolas Pepe
    Allan Saint-Maximin
    Leandro Trossard

    and....Andreas Pereira

We can look at non-penalty xG/90 (with a normalised number of penalties added back in, obviously) next if you like?

If that's what floats your boat - sounds like another solid base for FPL decision making! 🙂

Check out Martial's npxg over the last three seasons while you're at out - some fairly big percentages in there 😉

Over twice as high as Bruno’s with almost the same xA.

He’s doing pretty well, but it’s quantifiable over performance that you can factor in to an extent.

                Anything else?

33% or so. Over his career, it’s about 20%.

It’s a sample of 36 goals (27 expected), so it’s hard to know what his true long term figure is.

If he gets to 100 goals and it’s still 33%, I’ll tip my hat.

Ah it's more than 33% surely? I thought it was up around the 50's over a period of three seasons!

I must take another look & see, maybe I was imagining it 🙂

The translation of this as I can see it:

These players created better chances per 90 than Bruno, but they were converted less often because they had worse teammates. The quality of the team is key here.

        Totally agree.

The point I'm trying to make is that Bruno is not the creative force that everyone makes him out to be.

              5 years, 10 months ago

Yes, 14 of being an attacking force. Saying he's going to continue exactly as is would be foolish but it would be more foolish to think he will drop off to an extent where he's a bad option

For some reason all the caveats go against him but none in favour like utd were awful before he joined, he joined a new team and country so was still settling in, post restart the only team to have to use the same 11 players in prem and cup games was utd, and he didn't even get a rest in the cup games!

                5 years, 10 months ago

He won’t be a terrible option, I don’t think he’ll flop to a 120 point season or anything like that. I’d be surprised to see lower than 170-180 if he stays fit.

It’s the narrative of a nailed on 250 point player that I don’t get.

                1. @persecuted_by_mods
                  5 years, 10 months ago

That part depends on the penalties, I see no slow down in how many they will get tbh

                    • 10 Years

I’d wager a lot of money united don’t get more than 10 penalties in the league again this season, and a fair amount they don’t get more than 7-8

They’re not the first team to play with pacey forwards on the break. They haven’t broken football.

    8. MJF
      5 years, 10 months ago

Surely trolling. Every one of those picks was either a rotation risk or was providing chances for awful forwards.

      Lies, damned lies and statistics.

      1. Goonsquad245
        • 10 Years
        5 years, 10 months ago

I am not saying any of them are good picks.

There’s a prevailing opinion that Bruno is an incredible creative force. Just wasn’t the case last season.

        1. MJF
          5 years, 10 months ago

Eight assists after joining in January says different though?

He’s clearer a very talented, very driven number 10 who tries really hard progressive passes.

No xA number is going to persuade me otherwise.

          1. Goonsquad245
            • 10 Years
            5 years, 10 months ago

He’s a good footballer. He didn’t create the quality of chances that you think he did last season. It’s there in black and white I’m afraid.

            1. MJF
              5 years, 10 months ago

Based on xA alone or are you using other stats too for instance chances created?

Stats are secondary to watching football for me. He’s in the 10, he’s playing the clever passes and he’s trying the stuff others don’t.

Still think your tongue is firmly in your cheek.

              1. Goonsquad245
                • 10 Years
                5 years, 10 months ago

Chances created doesn’t really work because it treats a sideways pass on the edge of the area to a player 30 yards out who shoots the same as a cross for a tap in at the far post.

Like I said, he’s a good footballer. Never questioned that.

Part of what we need to do is focus on gw1 along with a strategy for moving to gws 2-3 and beyond - Antonio is a good option for gw1 & possibly gw2. I agree may be difficult to him move along at his price point. I'm still working on it 🙂 Who did you opt for?

Yes, kane ings adams though toying with premium options instead of adams. Good value, 4.5 strikers are dead players, mids delivering only a few points more than the better strikers for 2m+ outlay. Not worth it going overboard when only one can be a captain

There's every chance he was talking about not being available for a Championship side - I think Klopp isn't one to rule options out. If there's a good deal that can guarantee some PL minutes he'll be sent out

With Wijnaldum off to Barca are we expecting Keita to become a genuine FPL bargain (5.5) if Thiago transfer doesnt materialize ?

If Gini goes there will be a replacement lined up. I don't keita will be a great option, would rather 2 pool defenders and Salah/mane

Shame that the screen snip at the top of this article includes one of the reprehensible strain of FPL team names 'Inter (member of ones family)'

Real bottom tier stuff along with Norfolk etc, X's all-stars, Borussia teeth, pique blinders. I could go on but it hurts to even think about it.

Can anybody sell me on Justin? Pererira projected to return October which probably gives you 4 games before be loses his spot and you're forced into a transfer. Only makes sense if you're tied to an early wildcard.

Any Brighton fans have insights on your likely starting midfield and how they’ve done this “preseason”? I know Potter roulette is a pain, but tempted by Llana and Trossard.
    ...and Maupey for that matter.
Bissouma a useful bench spot as well.

Staying far away from Brighton after having the misfortune of owning Maupay at times last season. Stats were great but Potter benched him randomly

      Pereira, Auba, Salah, Son, Soucek.
      Kane, Mitrovic
Subs. Nyland, Mitchell/ferguson/Johnson(havent decided which one yet)
      Taylor.,Brewster

      Playing 3,5,2 this season

Notes. Brewster in as long as he gets move to PL club. If not ill be downgrading Doherty to a 4.5 and going possibly 6 million and have option to go 3, 4,3.
Think im positioned to jump on any bandwagons. Ie Timo, United players etc.

Great podcast guys - really enjoyed it (& the banter too!). I'm a die-hard Spurs fan from Australia & this will be my fourth season of FPL. I have steadily improved my ranking each year & am aiming for top 100K this season, which my first time FFS membership is already assisting greatly. Your discussion has confirmed a lot of the picks I currently have in my draft squad which is reassuring. Good luck to you all for the season ahead & looking forward to the next podcast.

Have any further cheap/basement bargain players emerged in the recent friendlies? Have tinkered with what will be a ghost entry this year, a couple of times now, waiting on Rhian Brewster news but currently:

    Ryan
    KWP - TAA - C. Taylor
    Auba (V) - Salah (TC) - Fernandes - Foden - Soucek
    Werner - Mitrovic

    Button - Brewster - Vinagre - Dallas

I know that Vinagre may lose his place but seeing as we've sold Doherty I'm thinking Jonny may get redeployed once he's back from his injury. Hoping I'll get 11 out each week if nothing else.

No KDB is a massive season-long risk but can't have them all.

Not really sure I see the merit in including a 4m defender.

None are nailed. Mitchell will lose his place as soon as pva is back.

With covid, think I'd rather find the cash for a playing 4.5m.....anyone else on this? Thanks

Definitely something I'm considering. Although probably more so if going 451 with a non playing striker. If you have 2 other decent subs in a different formation, that should suffice at the start at least.
