Darren Wiles Darren Wiles
Share:

A Fantasy Premier League veteran of 11 years, Darren Wiles has an incredible track record with three top 1k finishes in the last four seasons.

Unusually for me, I was a little late to the Fantasy Football party this season. All while most managers were busy planning their drafts since the launch, I was busy packing up boxes in the process of moving house.

I have been desperate to get started and now that mission has been completed, I have finally been able to start planning for Gameweek 1.

It’s easy to see why moving house is widely regarded as a stressful time in our lives but let me tell you…it’s a walk in the park compared to working out how we’re going to get in the Manchester United and Manchester City assets into our teams for Gameweek 2.

So, after registering my team, assessing the fixtures and diving into some data in the Premium Members Area, I now feel ready and equipped to share my current draft along with a few ideas I have.

If Doherty was still at Wolves he'd be in my team, but not sure he is as attractive now he's gone to Spurs.

Has there been any indication that Spurs might change to 3 at the back or are they expected to line up with a back 4?

I agree. Too many unknowns for an expensive def. Watch and see imo.

Indicators are back 4, but more like a 3 when in possession. He'll be a deluxe Aurier.

My concern is did spurs only play like that with aurier because it was aurier and he couldn't be trusted to defend? Especially now that this tactic had been shared to the world, teams will be set up to counter it.

Totally agree with this. There was a reason why aurier was tasked with as little defensive work as possible. Don't like the assumption that Doherty is a straight replacement. Having said that can see him doing more attacking than davies given his role at wolves. Possibly a few more clean sheets but less attacking returns being in a back 4. Not sure it's a great trade off.

Spurs' play style doesn't usually allow fullbacks to score goals too.

I’m starting with Doherty. Fact that Darren W. Is starting with him gives me confidence. Can always ship out for Laporte if he doesn’t bomb forward first few games. He’ll get plenty clean sheets first few anyway.

Just double up on pool defense, I think triple up is too much.
Assuming everyone has TAA, you only want one extra for the upside risk potential, a triple up is too inflexible and risky for me

Like this a lot. Like the triple pool defence, can’t always be a sheep on here and miss a chance to get ahead due to people‘a sceptism, Darren W, even see’s the value in tripling up Pool defence. Midfield is similar to mine, so not going to criticise that. Up top same as mine too but I’ve Doherty in defence, (possible changing to Laporte) instead of Che Adams, but it’s close as I do like Adams too, just afraid of the 2 Irish boys eating into his game minutes.

Good point. Few on here are. implementing a strategy for Covid. Could end up with Adams in my squad be4 Saturday myself, as not certain Doherty will be as formidable attacking in a back four.

You only have 1 obvious big hitter in Auba. Do you think Trent, Son, Ings, Jimi are going to provide reliable enough captaincy support such that you don't need a second big hitter?

Doing Werner to a 6m striker allows me to keep Mo (along with Auba and one of Alli/Son/Kai/Ziyech). I felt it was a fair trade

The 6m striker options look imo a lot better than the same price in mids

        agree,
the cheap forwards look better than the same price mids
the 7-9m mids look better than the same price forwards

Well I had him and took him out after reading some posts here a few hours ago. With one, two or all of Ziyech, Havertz and Pulisic probably missing GW1, and Liverpool GW2, I was persuaded to leave him until assessing for the 2FT week of GW3 or later.

I'm not really convinced by Werner for the first 2 but you have to keep the premium spot ready upfront from the start to potentially bring him in or martial.

So you need a 9/10osh player upfront from the start and I actually could not really find a better option than werner.

Maybe Kane but pre-season and fitness is a concern (+ europa game)
Firmino might be very punty but interesting.
          Maybe Ings + cash reserve

(I don't like Jimenez first two fixtures)

Having a look at gthe "leaked" Magnus Carlsen team yesterday and seeing he picked Ramsdale made me looking into it.

Actually, Ramsdale had 128 saves last year. Clearly BOU defense let him down. Now playing behind a much stronger defense (Henderson made 97 saves last year), do you believe Ramsdale is worth the 0.5 compared to McCarthy (79 saves) and Ryan (117 saves) ?

I think he's worth the 0.5 compared to McCarthy, now it's a bit closer compared to Ryan who could benefit from an improved defense this year too (Ben White)

Sheffield's fixtures are quite terrible in 4, 6, 7 and 8. The rotating keepers are better unless you don't mind doing ramsdale+mccarthy with extra 0.5. Those 2 combine damn well.

    McCarthy, Steer
    Davies, Vinagre, TAA, Justin, Taylor

    Werner, Adams, Mitro

My defence I'm set on. My only apprehension now is Son. I've not seen him in many teams, he's been massive at the end of the lockdown games and in pre-season, am I missing a trick here? Will Kane coming back really hinder him that much?
