Fantasy Premier League managers have been denied a £4.5m route into Wolves defence for their opening match of the season.

Ruben Vinagre (£4.5m) has been named on the bench for the Gameweek 1 trip to Sheffield United, joined there by Oskar Buur (£4.0m).

Despite Nuno Espirito Santo declaring in his Friday press conference that new signing Fernando Marçal (£5.0m) needed time to adapt to Wolves’ style of playing, the manager has started him at left wing-back anyway.

With Matt Doherty (£6.0m) having left the club for Spurs, Adama Traoré (£6.5m) has been trusted with the wing-back position on the other side of the pitch, rather than 22-year-old Buur.

Also on the Wolves bench is recently reclassified FPL midfielder Diogo Jota (£6.5m), beaten to a place in the front-three by Daniel Podence (£5.5m) and Pedro Neto (£5.5m).

The two wide-men flank Raúl Jiménez (£8.5m) who comes into Gameweek 1 with 18.5% worldwide ownership.

John Egan (£5.0m) and John Lundstram (£5.5m) are the most fashionable Sheffield United assets for tonight’s game, sat in 16.6% and 12.7% of teams respectively.

Both feature in the Blades’ starting line-up, which also includes Jack O’Connell (£5.0m), who missed every pre-season game, while the summer’s top-scorer Billy Sharp (£6.0m) features alongside Oli McBurnie (£6.0m).

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (3-4-3): Patrício; Saïss, Coady, Boly; Marçal, Dendoncker, Moutinho, Traoré; Podence, Jiménez, Neto.

Sheffield United XI (3-5-2): Ramsdale; O’Connell, Egan, Basham; Stevens, Fleck, Norwood, Lundstram, Baldock; McBurnie, Sharp.

So does Vinagre stay benched if he is out of favour or looking for a move?? Or could we see him off the bench?

He's not lying. Marcal needs time to adapt. He didn't say he wasn't gonna start!

I knew Vinagre was no good. Marcal is signed as backup. Backup to Jonny.

    4. Cok3y5murf

He did play in champions league recently for Porto I think so we knew he was ready to go. Tactics shouldn’t take that long for an experienced player.

    2. DandyDon

Not for a hit. Him Son and Kane remain Spurs three most dangerous attackers and he will start next two I am sure which they should be winning.

    Alright Vinagre's done me over.
Thankfully I have Taylor, Ayling & Justin alongside TAA.

Will have to take a hit but Vinagre to 4.0 frees up the 0.5m I need to upgrade Ings to Martial(c) for this week. Looks good?

    1. Atimis
      6 years, 1 month ago

If there is no better way of getting United attacker, yeah. Getting Martial and getting rid of a problem.

      1. Karan_G14

There is no better way except selling Salah or Werner. Let's see how Werner does tonight.

      1. Tinkermania

One trick pony? You mean Traore or Doherty?

        1. Debauchy

          Traore

          1. Tinkermania
            6 years, 1 month ago

I will take his one trick everyday. Expecting at least one attacking return.

    3. Dr. Rog
      6 years, 1 month ago

Does he have stamina? A wing back is asked to do 2 jobs. It’s a tough role.

      1. Gnu
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        6 years, 1 month ago

I think so, the concern is his positioning and defending.
3-5-2 Is generally seen as defensive but when you have a well organised back 3 and intelligent dm's then it can be helluva attacking. If Nuno wants Troare then that's the only obvious position for him to nail. Martin O'Neill did it well for Celtic in particular 10 years or do ago.

    4. Nightcrawler
      6 years, 1 month ago

      Traore is wasted at WB

His main strength is acceleration is short bursts not constant jogging up and down the pitch

      1. Debauchy
        6 years, 1 month ago

        Exactly thats his one "trick"

  13. Prison Mike

  14. Dr. Rog

      1. Flair
        6 years, 1 month ago

      2. soumyeah
        6 years, 1 month ago

        absolutely. = the fun.

You beat me to it. If Podence nails a spot at No 10 then after City he's an excellent option for 5.5.

  17. gomez123
    6 years, 1 month ago

    A) Ali & Ings to Rodriquez & Martial
    B) Ali & Ings to DCL & Rashford (like having 2 forwards?)

  18. Sterling Malory
    6 years, 1 month ago

Will be keeping a close eye on Podence, was set on him over ASM but chickened out.

    1. ZeBestee
      6 years, 1 month ago

Jota will still get plenty of game time unless Podence does extremely well.

      1. Sterling Malory
        6 years, 1 month ago

This is what I think will happen, he will do well.

  19. Andy_Social
    6 years, 1 month ago

Is Tallas to Wolves still a possibility? It would send Marcal into LCB and knock Saiss out of the starting line-up.

    1. DandyDon
      6 years, 1 month ago

Possibility. Last I heard Utd were looking at him.

  20. Atimis
    6 years, 1 month ago

Preferably would include both Bruno and Martial however, it is not possible as wanna keep Salah while Auba will become KDB/Sterling.

That leaves me with either only Bruno, or Martial plus Rashford (In place of Son in ~2 weeks, need 0.5 more). Said that, having Bruno would allow me to bring DCL - Everton's fixtures look really exciting.

    Thoughts ?

    1. Dr. Rog
      6 years, 1 month ago

Same as the last time u asked

    2. Qaiss
      6 years, 1 month ago

Why do you want Bruno if you will not captain him until earliest GW9?

      1. Atimis
        6 years, 1 month ago

Not looking at (c) options right now, just trying to pick best between Martial and Bruno.

        1. Qaiss
          6 years, 1 month ago

Yes, why do you want a player for 10.5m if you will not captain him until GW9. It's better to have Robbo and TAA for example than Bruno and a 4.0. Do ye understand?

          Ah, forget it 😀

          1. Atimis
            6 years, 1 month ago

Yeah, sure. Just if for 10.5 he may regularly score 3 points more than 9.0 one, I wanna take 10.5.

    3. ZeBestee
      6 years, 1 month ago

      1. Nightcrawler

        1. Nightcrawler
          6 years, 1 month ago

I know u can spread it over weeks like an 8 pt hit followed by another hit but more than likely some other issues will come up and the cycle keeps going

I've never taken more than a -8. So facing a -12 to do what I want would prompt a wildcard.

That's changes I really want to make though. The small tweaks you make on a wildcard don't count.

Vinagre benched. Ouch. That's gotta hurt some. C'mon Johnny Egan. Hopefully lightening strikes twice and it's the same result as last season!

  24. Dr. Rog
    6 years, 1 month ago

It’s often a disaster in defence that triggers early wildcards.

Plenty of popular 4.5s (saliba, vinagre) either benched or soon to be (Justin, holding). Doh/Davies/taa blank. Digne showing form.

    1. ZeBestee
      6 years, 1 month ago

I think with premium defenders (TAA), patience is key. I will keep him ahead of any defender including Robbo (who I own)

Hes right tho a vast majority had salah and most of them captained him so its not much use. Im on 70 with werner to go but a very disappointing GW

        1. Qaiss
          6 years, 1 month ago

I'm pretty sure the vast majority do not have Salah. And if you're talking about 'serious players' then you should calm down, its GW1. How is 40 points no use? Don't understand. Getting a head start is better than not..
